Team 2- Surface Dwellers

The way the first mission had gone didn't seem to be much of a surprise. It would actually be a surprise, if the mission went according to plan. This was because, it was almost impossible to have a near perfect mission success talk less of a perfect one. As of now however, that was not the main concern anymore. The mission had been accomplished, irrespective of it's difficulties. This were the thoughts running through the mind of the second squad sent for the takeover of the control unit of the rebel military base.

The squad consisting of another twenty scouts were in a ship situated metres above the unit. Unlike the first, this was relatively small, but efficient enough for them to carry out the mission.

"On the count of three.."

A hatch opened up, allowing the gust of air to slap across the faces of the scouts very close to it. Once the countdown was over, following the lead of one, all scouts jumped out through the hatch making their way to the ground.

Thud

Several feet landed, hammering the floor. The effect of this was the dust under their feet dispersing creating a cloud of dust. The squad had arrived in a very strategic position, metres far away from them were rebel soldiers patrolling the area. There were also several poles garrisoned around a particular area. There, more rebel scouts patrolled. The group could also hear the screeching sounds of tyres in a far distance. Most of all, the the unit area was dry, stuffy, dusty and hot.

The squad was divided in two. The major group consisting of twelve scouts were situated in a hanger of some sort. The dry wind in the atmosphere was definitely eliciting an unpleasant reaction from the soldiers surrounding. Luckily for the scouts, they were putting on special masks which enabled them navigate without discomfort.

"Alright guys!" The leader of the squad spoke up immediately to address his team members on their plan of action.

"We've landed in the IX-VII compartment.. which obviously is a hanger, mainly desolate. This is the control unit of the rebel base. And the plan is this. The first group targeting communications succeeded, but their success doesn't count as much. They've been able to intersect ground communications, base to base and base to sectors communications. This means that sectors can still communicate with one another. And to make things more complicated, the transmissions are retransmitted to an auxillary system capable of either totally ignoring the transmissions from the rebel bases, or return scrambled responses. Luckily for us, sectors are not going to communicate with one another anytime soon, but soon, they'll with the bases, and we'll be found out.

Taking control of this unit, we'll be able to successfully dissolve sector communications, and air communications. We'll also be able to wipe out protocols and commands within the unit and the sectors as a whole. There are several areas in this unit, and there compartments are found. However, air, sectors and system communications are based in three different areas. We'll split up, four to an area, and meet back here after. Fort and I will take the systems, eagle and hawk, air and sectors."

With that, the leader of the group took off with three others behind him as they made their way out of compartment IX-VII. There were not many rebel soldiers patrolling the compartment. It was more difficult to see a balanced ratio of scouts to rebels. There was no other way of knowing if there were any other security measures apart from the ones they had handled. If there was, then perhaps, the sound of alarms and gunshots would alert them.

After moment of walking, the group of four had successfully reached the boundary of the hanger-compartment. The bounds were defined by tall and thick metal nets. The bounds was easy to get by, seeing the nets were made of thin metal.

"Daytime's more favourable. Nightime, these would cackle with electricity." the leader commented on the bounds.

As the group was contemplating making their way out of the bounds, there was just one hurdle needed to be crossed, before they could achieve their aim.

Once they exited the IX-VII compartment, they would immediately he sighted. The amount of patrolling soldiers and vehicles was so overwhelming, they just couldn't make it in time to place where a guaranteed and stealthy entrance to the main area could be achieved. Moreso, the bright, broad and sunny daylight, wasn't exactly in favor of stealthiness. It just couldn't happen.

And that was where the first group of eight that had parted earlier on came in.

"You'll run interference. We'll wait for your signal, before we move in." The leader of the group had told the scout in charge of the eight man squad.

"And that's our signal!" the leader proclaimed with a large grin on his face.

A bright large flare which would definitely attract the attention of the entire security force could be seen making its way furiously towards the sky. At an attained height, the supposed flare blew up sending harsh radiations in directions. That was enough to distract the security forces for some time, but it couldn't buy them enough time. However, that wasn't the plan.

"Code red! Code red!"

"Out going transmission to military bases! Great possiblity of an academic operation.".

Another sudden flare went up in the air and blew like it's predecessor.

"ALERT! ACADEMIC MISSION IN PROGRESS!"

"All military bases, engage protocol 101. Refer to unit base for immediate commands.'

A smile formed again almost immediately on the leader's face as he paid attention to the transmissions and radio comms.

'I didn't really expect this. Letting the enemy know we're here is some way to run an interference. Now that's base to base communications are being monitored and controlled, there'll be a whole lot of confusion I wish I could witness for a while."

The leader of the group was evidently savouring this moment. But seeing as there was no time to waste, he led his team from the IX-VII compartment making their way to the secured area.

The pandemonium caused by the singular act of the flares was in the favour of the scouts who were making their way to a truck oddly in one place, finding places to hide behind stationary trucks, avoiding alarmed rebel soldiers, as the others were driving by furiously, creating a cloud of dust enabling the mission of the scouts.

"Take em' out!"

The group had arrived at a dry shed and made their way to the empty vehicles present. Quickly, they took out the rebels in the stationary vehicles.

"In this commotion, we won't be easily noticed." the leader mentioned as more flares shot up in the sky.

The two trucks manned by the scouts were slowing approaching the secured area. This one was very secure compared to the rest of the places they had seen. It had more resemblance to a military fortress, with high towers situated at both sides of the gigantic gate that separated from each other, allowing the access of one truck at a time.

"Pass!" A rebel guard demanded once the first scout manned truck reached its turn. Unsurprisingly, they presented what was supposed to be a pass and were allowed access.

"I'm not sure what these trucks were supposed to do, but over there, that's where systems control are located." The leader revealed as they drove on. "Eagle and hawk gave taken down sector and air communications. It won't be long before the entire place starts crawling with rebels. Even though the flares served as a perfect distraction, it'll turn back on us, if we don't hurry."

The truck had turned up at the secured area, among other row of trucks. A net identical to the one at the hanger compartment was protecting the bounds of the secured area. At that moment, both scout manned trucks ran into the net tearing it apart, and continued making their way into the building on high speed.

BOOM

The truck exploded in flames on coming in contact with the walls of the area building. Part of the building was destroyed as the trucks were definitely high tier ones, but lost to the continued impact of the crash.

As for the four scouts, they were never in the trucks, ad they were already on the top floor of the building.

"Argh"

A scout had shot the last revel protecting the systems unit. With another shot to the head, he ended the rebel's life.

'Engaging protocol 211'

"We're done. Preparing for takeoff" the leader said to someone other than the scouts in front of him.

At that moment, loud footsteps were heard alerting the scouts who were getting ready to attack at any moment in time.

"Hands in the air, you're surrounded!"

Bright lights shone on the area showing the scouts they were in trouble.

Surrounding the building now we're several aircrafts flashing bright lights at the building, seeking to expose the intruders. The sound of footsteps became more louder and seemingly multiplied.

"Freeze! You're surrounded!"

With a smirk and one hand on the main system unit, the leader made his reply. "No! Your systems is ours and you're toast!"
