Sneak attack

Instinctively I rolled to the side when I heard the sound of a sharp weapon passing right beside me and digging into the ground where I had been a few seconds ago.

Quickly drawing my bow, I positioned myself in attack mode and identified the direction the dagger was coming from.

Squinting in that direction, I saw a black figure run in panic as he saw he'd been spotted.

My arrows are far to me, then I wasted no time as I pulled my daggers out of my sheath that was located beside my leg and threw them without hesitation with all my might.

My stamina might not be as high as I wanted it to be, but one shouldn't underestimate an archer's throwing power.

The small dagger flew smoothly between the leaves of the trees and slammed into the fugitive's thigh.

Without waiting for him to react, I ran after him.

Because of the trees and bushes around us, although he is injured, it was not easy to reach them, as there were many obstacles in the way.

I saw that the blood flowed nonstop from the wound on his leg and I understood that he couldn't take it much further.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of strong currents of water that seemed to be just ahead flowing into a waterfall and a thought soon crossed my mind. "He doesn't intend to..!?"

Realizing her aim, I gritted my teeth and stepped forward run more fast as I cursed inwardly for I am not faster.

It was a pity that my efforts turned out to be in vain and we had quickly reached the depression when the attacker dressed in black jumped down the waterfall without hesitating for even a second.

Slowing down as I approached the drain, I looked down which was covered by the white caused by the water and could only sigh.

Dropping to the floor, I took a deep breath trying to slow my heartbeats that were pounding in my chest and stared in a daze at the vast white space in front of me.

The force of the water was tremendous and I didn't even care about the light drizzle that spread in the environment causing a light rain that was soaking me little by little.

A few minutes passed before I looked away and murmured to myself in comfort. "At least I hurt him"

I didn't have to think too hard to figure out who was most likely to be behind the sneak attack, and I also couldn't spend too much time on something that had already happened that, I couldn't do anything about.

Looking at my clothes, I realized that I was already soaked in water and went back to where I had left my stuff before the chase.

Finding my belongings, I picked them up and walked back to town, it was high time for me to go back and besides, I wouldn't risk staying here and being ambushed again.

Of course, the odds were slim, but it was best not to discount the possibility.

Returning to the dorms and entering my room a single thought was filling my mind. "Looks like 'they' don't want to wait any longer"
