7th day (part 03)

As soon as the start signal flashed in the sky, everyone started moving and positioning themselves in their designated places.

Each group had about 400 students participating, having more than enough people to be assigned to the most diverse tasks.

I was in charge of the watch, the top of the tower being the best place to do my part.

Going up the stairs and reaching the window at the top, I could see the vast expanse of green that surrounded us.

Of course, those who were on the watch were not only responsible for guarding our surroundings, but also the last protective barrier, since in order to conquer a territory, their flag had to be captured.

The first few hours were passing but no one had made the first move yet.

With my eyes still scanning my surroundings, I suddenly heard a barely audible little noise as I focused my eyes to the northwest.

Confined purely to my eyes, I carefully observed the region where the noise was coming from and saw about 20 shadows hidden among the bushes, probably planning a sneak attack to eliminate some of the members.

This was also one of the rules, if during the simulation, an enemy attack was similar to a fatal attack and hit you, you would be presumed 'dead' and had to withdraw from the test, as we were all wearing a vest under our uniforms, we would not be hurt.

Narrowing my eyes dangerously, I picked up my bow and arrows that weren't far from me and turned to the person watching with me and spoke to him in a low voice. "Tell the captain that there is a group of twenty people 5° northwest preparing a surprise attack, talk to her that she is not going to react yet but that she is to prepare silently so we can eliminate them all before they do the same with us, and tell her to wait for my signal before attacking"

I saw him give a slight nod before heading downstairs to warn the captain.

There were two captains on each team, one from each year, and I was one of them while the other was a sophomore, so we could better divide tasks and responsibilities.

Turning my gaze back to the intruders in the distance, without prey I positioned my bow and mapped the location of each one so as not to waste time.

My eyes gleamed with a peculiar thrill of euphoria as I let go softly the arrow.

The arrow quickly covered the distance between them and slammed into the vest, right in the chest area.

The person who was hit looked in my direction in surprise as I gestured with my lips, still smiling. "You're dead"

Those people looked at me stunned, as did those around them, not believing they had failed the ambush and it was only when another booming voice from enemy territory roared that they snapped out of their daze.

"Attack!"

At that moment, more than a dozen archers appeared on the walls and started shooting at the intruders and less than 10 minutes later, they had all been eliminated.

Their eyes were full of reluctance, but still, they left the area soon after, as the evaluators were watching the actions of all students and if they continued even after taking a 'fatal blow', the entire team would be disqualified. .

I put my gun away and with a satisfied look I muttered. "First attack successfully countered"
