The Debutantes Ball (part 06)

I spent the next few hours of the day with my mother.

We walked through the garden and talked about the most diverse subjects.

At these times, she looked like a teenager who made a new friend after being isolated for a long time, and vented about everything that came to mind.

"Are you looking forward to the baptism?" She asked while enjoying the flowers.

"You can say yes and no" I replied a little ambiguously.

"And why do you say that?" She pressed.

"I've been preparing for this moment for many years, so I'm not very anxious but expectant for what will happen, my only concern is if I'm good enough for this role" I replied after some time.

"This should be the least of your worries, my mother, your grandmother, must have taught you everything you need so you are definitely good enough for the job, you don't have to worry about being perfect, we all make mistakes and plus you did a great job while i was away, i'm sure you're the right person to be the next matriarch" She replied with a sweet smile on her face.

My mother always had the gift of words, she knew well how to choose the right words to calm us down and so that we could make our decisions with confidence.

We enjoyed the silence that surrounded us for a while longer, then she raised an entirely different issue than what we were talking about earlier.

"What about that boy? Aran's nephew, have you visited him and his other friends since they arrived?"

"You mean Brayan and the others? Not yet but I plan on going there tomorrow morning."

"Yes, his name was Brayan" She murmured with a contemplative look. "Don't forget to visit them, they have a good character and will be good friends in the future"

"Yes, they are very good friends of mine, we only knew each other for a short time but we had a lot of good times together" I said with a slight smile.

"Oh, yes" Returned to comment my mother. "What do you think of the Brayan boy? He's a good suitor, right?"

I returned my gaze to she and was a little stunned by her words, it took a while for me to turn my attention to her and reply. "We are just friends"

"*laughs* So it's really a shame" She said with a fake sad look. "That boy seems to really like you"

I had no way of refuting her in this sense, I had also noticed that Brayan seemed to look at me with a slightly different look than back then.

I had already sensed his emotions, but I couldn't respond to them.

In fact I think this is something that not even he himself realized and this was not the most appropriate time for a statement.

At the moment I didn't want to start a relationship and I didn't even have time for it.
