Escape

Returning my gaze to the fountain, I soon saw a set of golden lights in the most diverse tones.

From the golden lights, other colors emerged, blue, green, violet and the more I looked, the more those lights expanded and resembled the aurora borealis.

Stories said that the aurora borealis was an indication of the Gods' descent on Earth.

Seeing those lights becoming more and more radiant and I went into a momentary trance, forgetting even the choking sensation I felt.

Without looking away, I continued to watch as the rays of those lights spread across that space.

A few seconds passed and the darkness was quickly fading.

It was a beautiful sight, but in the midst of my daze I felt an inexplicable sense of danger approaching me.

"I have to get out of here!" It was the only thing that came to my mind at that moment.

Summoning every ounce of strength I still had, I turned in the opposite direction from where the lights were coming from and I ran.

However, I wasn't fast enough and as time passed those rays of light got closer and closer to me and I felt a sense of crisis.

Without much thought, I released my blessing as a way of imposing that coercive force and continued running.

The seconds seemed eternal to me and I ran without looking back, it was an inexplicable feeling and the only thing I thought about was how to find a way out of that place.

The blessing seemed to be of some help, my speed increased significantly but I didn't care and just worried about how to escape.

Seconds turned into minutes and minutes soon turned into hours as I began to feel the tiredness take over my body little by little.

Gritting my teeth together, I ignored the nagging feeling of weariness and continued to run.

Without worrying about anything, I had already lost my sense of time in that space.

My legs felt heavy, as well as my head and eyes that threatened to close at any moment.

My breathing was labored and my vision was starting to blur.

Looking at the nonexistent horizon, my attention was caught only on the few rays of light that would soon reach me.

My speed started to drop drastically and my whole body didn't feel like it belonged to me anymore.

All I wanted was to lie down somewhere and get a good night's sleep.

Gradually I felt my body becoming lighter and lighter and shortly after, I no longer had the strength to continue.

Stumbling between my legs my body fell to the floor and I could no longer muster the strength to even move my fingers.

The lights of unknown origin were approaching faster and faster and soon they were catching up to me.

When they came to touch the tips of my toes I felt a burning sensation spread from the point of my toes, as if my entire body was being burned to ashes.

Those lights were incinerating everything that was found in their path.
