"And he accepted?" Mei asked Ai.
"Well, you're here now, so I suppose yes," she chuckled, getting up, she picked up the clothes and gave them to Mei. "I will be waiting for you outside, if you need anything just call me in."
Leaving the room, she stared at the door, her mind hazy with confusion.
'Why would he agree to let me stay here? I'm sure Suyin wouldn't have even noticed that I was gone but Dad doesn't even let me stay at Lien's'
Sighing, she got up and tried on the clothes, a lilac two-piece pantsuit with a black blazer. She looked at herself in the mirror and scoffed,
"So elegant. Can't be me."
Taking a deep breath in, she exhaled and opened the door to Ai, who was talking on the phone with someone.
"Ah yes, we will be reaching in an hour. Here she is, we will head straight out after having breakfast." Beaming, she turned around to face Mei.
"Just in time. Let's have breakfast."
Mei took in the luxurious interior while walking to the kitchen behind Ai, her eyes gazing at the various art nooks and crown moldings intricately designed for the archways and corridors.
Upon reaching the kitchen, she gaped at the exquisite space that provided her to a modern spin to the rest of the classical architecture.
Multiple hanging plants over the countertop next to a group of pendant lights. A large piece of wall art to the entrance added a touch of finesse to the well-balanced layout.
Ai stepped over to a towering wine storage rack, which gave the decadent feeling of being inside a wine cellar, picking out one of the bottles as she sat on the marble bar top that was filled with dozens of dishes.
Dumplings, congee, eggs made in different ways, pancakes sided with juices and smoothies.
"My favorite has always been the xiao long bao," Ai prattled, "They were your mum's favorite too."
Smiling, she replied, "Mine too."
After finishing breakfast, Ai gently grabbed Mei's hand, ushering her out of the mansion, "They must be waiting for us. Jian and Chen left an hour ago while you were sleeping."
A sleek blue car stood out in the driveway, one of the helpers opening the door for them.
Ai grinned, heading to the driver's seat and jumping in, "Been a long time since I have driven this car."
Mei giggled in response, a confused expression on her face, "I didn't think you would like driving."
"Cars are my guilty pleasure," smirking she slowly let the car out the driveway onto the road.
Suddenly, she hit the gas pedal and floored down the streets, swerving the car out of the traffic and laughing all the while.
When they reached the Liu Company Building, they saw Chen standing in front of the main entrance as Ai stopped the car before him.
Mei wobbled out of the seat, her face pale from the ride. Chen looked at her and roared out in laughter, "A piece of advice, Never stay in the same car as her when she is the one driving."
Ai got out, handing her keys to the valet while chuckling at Mei,
"I wasn't even that fast. We were right on the speed limit this time."
She placed her arm across his, walking in through the glass doors of the building.
Every other employee greeted the couple as they strolled past the lounge to the elevators.
Mei pushed on one of the buttons when Chen tapped her on the shoulder and waved her over.
"Those wouldn't take you to the CEO's office," pressing a different button next to a restricted door, he snickered, "There you go."
The door slid open to reveal a hidden elevator behind it. Mei was awestruck, realizing how before she had never truly understood where the office was located.
Stepping in, she saw that there were only two buttons on the side; one that had office written on it and the other BDL.
"BDL?" she inquired them.
"Oh, Don't you know? It's the Board Directors Lounge right below my office floor. Why don't I give you a little tour of the company later?" He bubbled on, "But for now you can explore the office floor a bit."
Mei nodded, her heart beating in her chest in excitement.
'This might be fun.'
The door opened to a woman in a grey skirt and black blazer, bowing down to greet them.
She picked up a book from a nearby desk and looked at Chen, "Sir, the Smiths meeting has been pushed till next week as per your request."
"That's excellent news Ju, You can take the rest of the afternoon off."
Passing her, he turned back and concluded in a serious tone, "Make sure nobody enters the office today. If it's absolutely urgent, just give me a call on the phone."
Ai took hold of Mei and nudged her through the passageway, "Most of these doors are where the meetings are held. The office is at the end."
She looked through the clear glass walls at the rooms which gave a peek of opulence, reserved for the most affluent.
LED lights struck up the corridor, complementing the polished brown paint while giving out a shine.
"Here we are!" both chorused as Chen pushed the door to the last room.
Mei stood there gaping, her mouth open as she was speechless from the view.
The smooth white walls and wooden furnishings gave off a picturesque aura while its glass windows faced the tall skyscrapers. They were nothing in front of the Liu Company which stood higher than any other there. It overlooked the city as wisps of clouds formed around the window.
Behind the wooden desk was a large aquarium that covered the entire wall in width.
"I chose the designs," smirked Ai, "Don't just stand there, come inside."
Stepping into the room, she realized that Jian and her father had already been present.
"Why don't we give the two sweethearts a bit of time to themselves?" Ai implied directing Chen and Feng out of the room.
"But we had to discuss about..."
"Shhh, let them be alone." she shushed her husband, pushing him out the door.
Popping her head in, she looked at the now dazed Mei, who couldn't understand anything, and winked as she left, "Hope you two had fun last night."
Leaning on the desk, Jian taunted,
"You're really desperate to get in my bed, aren't you?"
