Homecoming (2)

"In all the excitement I forgot my manners. What can I offer you to eat?" Mother said.

"I would love nothing more than to eat your food again, but I can't. Jacob's people have many rules about food, and when I joined them, I accepted the rules too." Mother seemed crestfallen.

"I can still cook with you, and it's possible for me to eat what you prepare, it's just not so easy anymore. We'll need to make some preparations, and do it in a specific way, with specific tools and ingredients," I tried to console her. She seemed slightly less despondent after hearing that.

"Emma, Beverly, can you help Vivian move into the guest room?" Mother said.

The two of them took the backpacks and led the way up the stairs to what used to be Mark's room. It now had a larger bed, suitable for two people, and a crib.
