Day One of Rebirth

Harley finally found a light green dress in the very back of the closet. Pulling it out, she studies it for a moment before deciding to wear it.

Heading to the bathroom, Harley takes a quick shower. After washing the lengthy hair, Harley scowls. She debts whether she should just cut it all off or not. It's so tiresome to take care of. And she had always kept it long because Jack enjoyed her long hair. But Harley wanted to change everything she could about herself. So as soon as she could, she would head to the nearest salon and get it all cut off.

After blow-drying her hair, Harley twists it upon her head. Then, sliding into her white flats heads downstairs to eat breakfast.

Hearing low voices in the dining room, Harley pauses around the corner. She can listen to her parents with Jane talking.

"Harley was acting slightly funny this morning when I woke her up this morning. She was already out of bed when I went up."

There was a slight pause before Nathan answered Slyvia.

"She's just excited about her birthday. I'm not surprised that she got up early. What did you get Harley for her birthday?"

The silence rang out. Harley wasn't surprised they didn't get her anything. They hadn't done anything for the last few of her birthdays. What would change today?

Slyvia sighs before answering. "I got her a bag. Thought she might like it."

Jane speaks up, "I got her a pair of diamond earrings. What did you get her, Daddy?"

Nathan coughs lightly. "I well didn't think of anything yet."

Harley rolls her eyes before stepping around the corner. She wasn't that desperate for their love. She didn't even care about the gifts that Slyvia and Jane had gotten for her.

Slyvia glances up to see Harley walking into the dining room smiles, greeting her.

"Oh, you are here. Let me tell one of the servants to get a plate for you. what would you like to eat, dear?"

Harley shrugs, sitting down at the end of the table, away from everyone else.

"It doesn't matter. Whatever that's left, I will eat. I'm not that hungry anyway."

Slyvia nods, waving her hand towards one of the young maids. "Just put some eggs and toast on a plate for Harley."

The young maid nods before heading to the kitchen to get a plate for Harley.

Harley studies her family, still grappling with the fact that she's been reborn. It felt odd sitting here, having not seen them for so many years. Sylvia still had her black hair; it hadn't turned grey yet. Nathan still looked fit and healthy. Cupping her chin in her hand, Harley pursed her lips. She knew that there was a party this evening. They had said it was a birthday party for her when it was just a part for them to do some more networking. She hated those parties. Boring as hell with nothing to do but pretend everything was great.
