Chapter 5: A new friend

I went around asking if anybody wanted to take the quest. Nobody really wanted to do it because it was apparently too difficult. So, I decided to settle down for now and rest. I found an inn and paid for a one day expense, it was cheaper than I thought. It was about 5 copper pieces which was very convenient for me. So, I slept in for the day and the next morning I finally found a party to help me. They were a party made up of a swordsman, a summoner, and an elementalist. They seemed like a good balanced party and had great teamwork according to the others.

I greeted them and we made up a plan for the dungeon raid, basically I was backup for the frontline. I didn't really care about what role I was taking in the party, so we left after that. We went East and found a village they seemed to be in discomfort when we arrived. I walked up to the chief and asked him, "What's going on here, did something major happen?"

The old man responded with, "Yes indeed something has happened. The dungeons been acting up lately, for some reason the people who have gone in there have never returned."

"Me and the guys behind me will go and clear this dungeon for you, don't worry."

"Please do sir..."

"Raven, I go by Raven."

"Sir Raven thank you for taking up this challenge, may the gods protect you in your journey."

We ventured though the village for rations and set off to find the dungeon. One of the villagers guided us to the dungeon and I spotted something peculiar next to the dungeon. I asked the party to stand by while I checked on something. I found an animal and slowly approached it to get a better look. It looked like a black cat, and it was just lying there in the sun. I walked up to it and as soon as it saw me it started hissing. I told it that I wasn't its enemy even though I knew I couldn't speak to a cat. It looked at me puzzled, tilting its head and ran away.

I found my way back and walked inside the dungeon with the party. The elementalist used light magic so that we could see in the darkness. The swordsman was in the front checking for any sort of movements that could signify a monster is nearby. The summoner summoned a wolf to scout the area while we looked around for any traps. I heard something and then as I heard it the swordsman yelled out, "Enemies ahead!" I was still startled by that noise that I heard, it sounded like a person being tortured. I ignored it for the time being but didn't think that I was hearing things.

I was very confident in my hearing as I could hear a rock drop from a mile away. I focused my attention on the enemies in the front, they were skeletons. The typical mob you would see after goblins, but they were equipped with weapons and some armor. The swordsman was tanking the bulk of the damage while the elementalist stood in the back shooting spells. The summoner was terrified at the sight of these skeletons but was holding her ground. I took out my sword and shield and prepared for battle, I was ready.

One of the skeletons in the back was looking for something and I was the only one to notice. I headed straight into battle and tackled one of the skeletons with my shield. "I need backup" I yelled out to the swordsman, soon after he also charged in, and we started killing the skeletons one at a time. The loot wasn't too good for the most part so I said they could have it and kept moving forward looking for that skeleton I saw earlier. As I moved closer, I heard a scream from behind it was the elementalist.

I turned around to find the head of the swordsman gone, I put up my guard and looked for any enemies around. I slowly approached the elementalist and asked about what had happened and she said, "Something came out from there and sliced his head." She was pointing to her right, it was the noise I had heard earlier. "Run I yelled to her and the summoner", but it was too late they all died. I couldn't make any rash moves so I stayed back waiting for the enemy to reveal itself. I started hearing rumbling coming from above me... I slowly started walking backwards until I heard something from behind me, it was the sound of cracking. I turned as fast as I could to see a pile of bones in front of me.

I couldn't tell what could have done that to a skeleton, but I knew it had to be the thing making all that racket. I kept advancing through the dungeon ignoring the battle going on above me. I found a glint of light ahead of me, so I approached it and found the craziest thing. It was a utopia, something that usually comes out of fairytales I thought. Suddenly something fell from above my head, so I looked down to try to spot it. It was the cat from before, and it was severely injured. There was only one way down, and although I didn't like it, I had to... I jumped off hoping that I didn't die from the fall. There were some trees below me so as I was falling, I tried to grab hold of one of them. It took me two tries before I could grab on. I had a sense of relief after that, but when I heard something fall from the cliff I was on, I heard a loud BOOM! That was my enemy?!
