Chapter 5- The Underwater Cave

I opened my eyes to see the hooded boy looking at me. I tried to move but my body was stiff and sore. I moaned in pain. "Don't try to move. Just lay down and relax."

"What happened?" I closed my eyes for a minute.

"You were running out of air. You almost drown." He stared at me as if he were relieved that I'm okay.

"I thought I was.. and you were. You were gone. You weren't there and I.. I panicked. I.." He stopped me from rambling on. "Shh it's okay, you're okay," he paused. "I'm sorry I left you behind like that. I wasn't thinking. Stupid." I could tell he was having an inner battle with himself.

"It's only because of you that I'm here. I wouldn't be alive if it weren't for you." It was the truth and I was thankful for him saving me multiple times. "You know something? You saved my life about four times now and I don't even know my heroes name." He chuckled.

"It's Chance... My name is Chance." He smiled so big it lit up the whole cave. I smiled back.

"That's a nice name. You have a nice smile too." I said still smiling.

"Thanks. You have a nice smile too." Still smiling he looked down to try and hide the fact that he was blushing, but I noticed.

"Dakota." I held out my hand to shake. He smiled again and shook my hand.

"Beautiful name for a beautiful girl." Now I'm the one blushing. Be cool, be cool, be cool. "Well Dakota, it's nice to meet you." "Back at you. Although I do wish it would have been on better sercomtances." I laughed. He did too. We stared at each other for I don't even know how long. Then I realized he was still holding my hand. I coughed awkwardly and let go. I changed the topic.

"So what is this place?" I asked. "One of our safe houses."

"Are they all underwater?" He laughed.

"No, it was just the closest one." "So what happens now?" I wanted to know.

"Well, you can't go home. The safest place for you is our home. Plus the head master wants to meet you." Oh lord. Then it hit me. I shot up not even thinking about the massive plan in my skull.

"My brother?! I forgot about my brother!" Well shit.

"Don't worry, he's not in danger. We'll let you call him once we get back to let him know you're alright." Relief washed over me, and I laid back down.

"So just out of curiosity, how old are you?" I asked. He let out a small chuckle.

"What, I'm just making conversation." He laughed some more.

"I'm 18." I couldn't break the smile on my face no matter how hard I tried.

"I can't wait till I'm 18. I can make my own rules... Just one more month left." Chance helped me to a sitting position. "So what are you exactly?" I held up my hand.

"Wait, let me guess." I looked him up and down.

"A vampire, hmm but you're body isn't cold." I thought harder. "You said you didn't have magic so you can't be a warlock." He smiled.

"Very good. Nice to know you were paying attention."

"I always pay attention to when people talk. Let's see, so maybe you are a werewolf? But then again you would have changed into a wolf to kill that guy instead of using a knife."

"Good again."

"So what else is there?" I asked. "Oh lots of things. Angels and demons. Ghosts, you name it."

"I knew it! I knew that girl you saved in the ally had wings!" Aha I was not crazy after all. "Yes, that was an angel. They have been at war for centuries." I stopped talking and thought for awhile. He observed me the whole time. I turned to look at him.

"Fairy?" I smile.

"Nice try." I raised my hands in defeat.

"I give up."

"Don't worry, you'll find out soon enough. Now get some sleep." "Wait we are sleeping here?" I asked concerned.

"Yes. To dangerous to travel now. We'll wait till morning. Try to sleep." He leaded his head back against the cave wall. "Okay. Goodnight then." I laid down to try to get comfy. I started to drift off.

"Goodnight," was the last thing I faintly heard and I fell fast asleep.
