Chapter 8- He Loved Her

"So, let me get this straight. You think I'm the missing hybrid child?" I asked. No one said anything. I started to laugh. "Okay, ya'll have lost your minds." I started to pace the floor.

"Yes, we believe you are."

"Why?"

"The child, her name was Dakota." Said Chance.

"Okay, so I have the same name. Lots of people have that name, so what?"

"Well you clearly have warrior blood. What we don't understand is that you just popped up one day out of nowhere."

"So I.. I'm.."

"... A warrior? Yes, but a special one. You are half witch." I felt like I was about to throw up. How could I grow up thinking that the only people that existed on this planet were ordinary humans. A few days ago none of this was real to me. Now all of a sudden I'm one of them. "So my parents are dead?" I asked. Josh, Reilly and Chance all looked at each other and then at me.

"Yes, I'm sorry." Said Josh. "What about my brother? Does he know about this? Is he a warrior too?" I was worried about him.

"He is not a warrior, which means he is not your real brother. I'd be careful with that one." Reilly said.

"What why? Blood or no blood. He basically raised me! Now you're telling me to be careful? He's not going to hurt me!" I was very mad at them right now. "Dakota, for all we know he's the enemy!" Chance yelled at me. He's been quiet the whole time and now he has the nerve to yell at me? I took a step closer to him.

"You know nothing about him or me, so don't act like you do!" "I'm trying to help you!"

"Then help me, but don't act like you own me!" I glared at him and he glared back. Someone cleared their throat.

"WHAT?!" Chance and I yelled at the same time.

"We have more important things to talk about then you too arguing." Josh said.

"Right, right. You're right I'm sorry." He nodded.

"So there is something I've been thinking. If Morgana is a blood born witch then how come the monster bite was killing her?" "Well her powers were dormant so basically she was just a regular person." Reilly spoke. "Thank God for that." Josh said quietly.

"Thank God for what?" I know he was hoping no one had heard him.

"Thank God that she was just a regular person." Caroline spoke for the first time since the story. "It was us that turned her into a monster. Maybe if we had let her die then.."

"Don't say that! How could you say that?! She was your friend!" Josh exploded.

"Wait, you knew Morgana?" I asked.

"We all did." Said Caroline. Josh was silent at first. Then he spoke.

"She use to watch us train. She was so amused with it." He sighed.

"I was the one that trained with her after Reilly refused. I regret it now. Anyway I was her partner on the job she was assigned the day she was bit. I made a mistake that costed her everything. By the time I reached her it was to late... She was already dying."

"You loved her." It wasn't a question. I already knew the answer.

"Common mistake I'm told."

"I'm so..." I started to say but was cut off by Chance.

"Don't feel sorry for him. That's what happens when you fall for a human." Josh opened his mouth ready to start yelling but Reilly stepped in before a fight broke out. I quickly changed the subject.

"I still don't understand what I have to do with all this." I was more confused than ever.

"The one thing that can kill a witch, is another witch." Reilly spoke.

"Wait what? Are you saying you want me to kill Morgana? No, no I can't kill someone. I don't even have powers, besides, she's done nothing to me!" These guys are crazy!

"Not yet." Said Chance. Im getting real sick of this guy. I rolled my eyes.

"She hunted them all to extinction. If she finds you, it's game over for us. I could feel it, they were all truly afraid of her. "Well its been fun guys but I really need to get home. My brother is probably searching the streets for me." I started to get up but was immediately pushed back down in my seat. "Whoa there, you're not going anywhere." Said Chance.

"And why not?" I demanded. "Now that we found you, you're in too much danger to be away from us. You'll stay here and we'll get your belongings in the morning." Reilly was persistent. I knew I wasn't leaving.

"But my brother."

"We'll let you call him, but trust me." Said Chance.

"He isn't looking for you. He's probably been killed by whoever he works for because he lost you." I held my chest. I couldn't breathe. There he goes again acusing my brother, but this time I stayed quiet.

"Now that you know you're one of us this is your home now." Said Reilly.

"We have a room for you. Chance will you take her to her room please? Its been a long day, let's let her rest." Chance nodded his head and the two of us walked out the door. We stayed quiet, which is good because I didn't want to talk to him anyway. Chance stopped in front of a room door. He turned around to face me.

"I'm sorry okay? I didn't mean to yell at you like that. I'm just worried. I don't want anything to happen to you." I smiled.

"You're forgiven." He smiled back.

"Good." I started to open the door but he stopped me. I looked up at him.

"What is it? Is something wrong?" He didn't speak. I stood there frozen looking into his bright blue eyes. He smiled.

"No, nothings wrong." Chance stood staring at me a little longer until he finally spoke.

"I just.. I spent years searching for you, and now you're standing in front of me, and... I'm glad we found you in time. I'm glad you're here now." I smiled at him. No one has ever said that to me before.

"It's late and I'm tired." I started to turn around when he grabbed my shoulder and turned me back around to face him. "What?" I said looking him in the eyes again.

"Nothing, it's just... Nothing." Just when I thought we were alone Josh turns the corner. We both stared at him. When he finally realized we were staring he said,

"What? Did someone die or something? Jeez, oh wait, I see I'm interrupting something."

"Josh..." Said Chance still looking at him.

"Hey, it's none of my business..." Said Josh.

"I was just. Saying. Goodnight." Said Chance.

"Mhmm." Then josh walked into his room and closed the door. "Do you ever take that hood off?" I asked joking around. He laughed.

"What, you don't like it?"

"Well I never said that but, I can't see your face this way." He pulled his hood down.

"Better?" I nodded. I couldn't stop staring at him.

"Well, see you in the morning?" I asked.

"Yeah.. Goodnight." He said to me and kissed me on the cheek. I blushed.

"Goodnight." I said back. I walked into my room and closed the door behind me. This day has been so long.
