Chapter 4: Siblings (2)
Perseus was then led to an empty training room by Nova. It was mostly an empty room with a few rack of wooden weapons, and 2 windows.
"So what's your specialty?" Nova asked "I can test you easier that way"
"I can escape from prison really well, you when people use their Arcana to make arrays to keep us from getting out, I can configure them and twist them to open them up and let me escape" Perseus responded
"I keep forgetting the life you lived before coming here, let's see" Nova's hand then glowed light blue as then a small barrier appeared between them.
The barrier was a thin panel that is light blue in color, in the middle of the barrier is a 2-layered circle, the inner circle has a picture of a shield while the other rings have runes that was rotating. And there were several vertical columns of runes on top and bottom of the circle like a vertical belt.
"This is as simple as it gets, my new little brother, let's see you work your magic and disable this thing" Nova said "This is the same barrier they use for prisons"
"Of course, they'll throw you in a dark room with no light surrounded by thick walls and metal bars when I was 5, but then later they replaced it these barriers" Perseus responded
Perseus then activated his Arcana, both of his hands lit up blue and there were rune circles in both his eyes and both his hands, Nova then watched him try and deactivate it. Perseus twist the rune circle on the barrier and messed with the column of runes and it didn't take long for the barrier to shut down.
"This would be the part where I usually run" Perseus said as he deactivated his Arcana.
"What if you run into an enforcer? Surely you can't beat them in a fight" Nova asked
"I try to slide through their legs and hit their balls while I'm at it to incapacitate them or I would have stolen one of these and used them" Perseus then got out his taser "It's simple really, just inject your Arcana and shoot, or sometimes I get the core out, inject my Arcana and overload it, then I throw them and watch it explode"
"I see, so what if I use a stronger barrier to block those doors, how will you escape?"
"Then I'll jump out through those windows, we're only on the first floor, jail is usually on the ground floor so I don't have to worry much"
"Well then, what is your favorite breakfast?" Nova asked
"I haven't really had breakfast since father Jake passed away, which was just buttered toast with a fruit bowl" Perseus answered while thinking harder but comes up with nothing
"When did you start to steal?"
"Half a year after he passed, we had supplies and rations in the pantry for emergencies that can last up to about 12 months or 18months if I really stretch it, so I steal food to stock up"
"How did you even get in the kingdom? There are enforcers guarding the gates at all times"
"I have my ways" Perseus responded "There are small tunnels barely enough for me to crawl under or I can come here through the sewer system"
"Well we'll take care of you, they should be waking right about now, aunt Olivia baking skills are good and paired with mom and dad's culinary skills, we can make sure that you'll never be hungry again" Nova then ushered him out of the training room
"I should go get Ace and Siege first" Perseus tried to head for the library but was stopped by Nova
"Dabria will take care of it, she might act cold, but she's incredibly caring. Besides if it's her, she might already be there first, so come on, let's go" Nova insisted "You need to eat if you want to grow, you and your bonds are too...scrawny"
They then walked to the dining room, Perseus could already smell the food cooking, he could smell meat, eggs and many others. he found Siege and Ace already eating before him. Nova then led Perseus then to his seat as he sat next to him.
"What's for breakfast today, mom?" Nova asked
"Well we got sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns and pancakes. We are celebrating for our new family member after all" Mary answered "Is there any food that you do not like to eat? I will have to take notes for the future"
"Um I'm fine with everything but eggplants" Perseus answered honestly
"I will now write that down, Dabria hates bell pepper and Nova hate beets, that's 3 food to avoid for the future" Mary noted before heading off to get the food. Everyone then gathered around the table and started their breakfast.
"Is their something on my face?" Perseus asked Olivia who was staring at him "Or is my manners bad?
"Uh no, your table manners is good actually, did father Jake teach it to you?" she asked
"Um yeah, he taught me some stuff before he you know..." Perseus trailed off
"Now that you're a part of us, you will need to take some etiquette classes for future gatherings" John informed "I got a good family friend of ours to come"
"Won't they find out that I'm one of the people from the buries?" Perseus asked nervously
"Most of the people that are close to us does not discriminate, if anything they will want to offer help, but alas we can't, the council forbids it"
"What's the council? What about the king or queen?" Perseus asked
"The king or queen does not really hold any political power, the council of the 7 does, they are the ones with the most authority and influence" John explained "But we still respect the royals"
"We'll also have someone join you so you don't feel left out" Mary added "She should be around your age, and you'll start next week"
"What do you plan to do in the mean time? Since you're currently free" Axel asked
"I think that I'll just stay in the library and read" Perseus answered "There are things that I need to learn"
