As a young woman Adair Fox enters the civilization test, the most difficult test in the entirety of the Galactic Empire, in hopes of achieving that highest of honors and finally becoming eligible to meet her parents. During the test Adair acts out of desperation and uses a dangerous ritual to save her people, only to get betrayed by them shortly after. Unfortunately not only does Adair fail the test, but she also finds herself trapped in a void for thousands of years until she eventually meets up with another being. She makes a deal with the Reincarnation Machine, which allows her to go back in time and become a sorceress.

The Forgotten Ability

Adair was happy that she made the correct decision since she was slightly worried about what the punishment that Roxanne was alluding to would have been if she had made the wrong decision there at the end.

Since she was no longer going to be battling these robots, they were all sent back to their respective doors, and shortly, the hallway was completely empty once again. She did wonder, though, if Roxanne actually wanted to see her skill in fighting and what her bad habits were or if that was just an excuse to see what she would do in this situation.

Another thing that she wondered was if this proxy test that Roxanne had just set up became a precedent set that meant that she would always need to be on her best behavior; otherwise, she would fail one of these tests that she didn't know was happening.
