Chapter 9 Hints of an Tragedy

Waking I stop hugging the pillow.

Turning to Sabrina's side of the bed.

Admiring her beautiful dark brown hair.

She is facing away from me.

"Sabrina?"

I woke her up, shaking her.

She turns to me, revealing her pure red eyes.

"Leave Ciphia!"

She shouts.

Waking up, from my dream I gasped, trying to breathe.

It felt like I was drowning.

Looking at Sabrina's side of the bed, she wasn't there.

Wiping my face in relief.

"It was just a weird nightmare."

I said.

Getting out of bed yawning.

I put on my jeans and shirt.

Going to the restroom.

I look in the mirror.

Splashing water on my face, I grabbed my toothbrush.

Brushing my teeth after I apply toothpaste on the bristles.

After I finish, I adjust my long brown hair with some gel.

Applying some shaving cream to my face.

I began to shave my beard.

"Ouch, that stings."

I say.

The cut heals as I rinse the blood off my face.

Humming Sabrina walks in front of the restroom to greet me.

"Good morning honey, come get some breakfast."

Sabrina said.

"What is for breakfast today?"

I asked, grabbing the towel to dry my face.

Putting the towel on the sink.

Sabrina embraces me, kissing my cheek.

"I need you to drive Aiden to high school again today."

She said,

"No problem, I'll tell Dale I'll be driving the truck today."

I said, accepting her embrace.

"Our little warrior is growing up too fast."

Sabrina says.

We both walked out of the restroom.

Greeting Dale, and Nathan.

I spotted Laura on the couch.

She's been here since yesterday.

"Good morning everyone."

I said.

"Good morning dad."

Aiden said.

"Good morning Nate."

Dale said.

"Hey dad, I should tell you about what they teach us at school."

Aidan said.

"Yeah?"

I said, taking a seat at the table.

Between Dale and Sabrina.

"They talk about how they enslaved the humans here. Slaughtering all of the clans and organizations that were a threat. But Ohme and Canix came together. As an alliance of two opposing forces to shut them down."

Aidan said.

I began snoring, opening my eyes to look at Sabrina smiling.

"You done?"

I said, chuckling.

Aidan sighed.

"No, but I think it's still an interesting story. A very serious discussion we should have soon."

Aidan said.

"Aidan, what about the after-school activities?"

Sabrina asked.

"Yes, I love those! I'm in the book club. I met this girl. Her name is Nina."

Aidan said.

Dale chuckles, I eat my breakfast slowly while Sabrina looks at Aidan astonished.

"What?"

Aidan asked.

"Nothing Aidan, I think it's sweet you found someone to talk to."

Sabrina says.

"How is Laura doing, Dale?"

I asked.

"She seems fine, she is just extremely exhausted from using all that energy yesterday."

Dale says.

Sabrina gets up from the table and puts her dish in the sink.

"I'm done eating, boys, now hurry up and finish so I can wash these dishes."

Sabrina said, walking to the table.

"I'm done Mom."

Aidan said, placing his spoon in the empty bowl.

"That oatmeal was good. I'll head to the truck now."

Aidan walks out of the kitchen into his room to grab his bag.

"You think he's ready?"

Sabrina asked.

She looks at me and Dale.

"It seems that he already knows the truth anyway. Nathan learned the hard way when he was even younger than Aidan."

Dale says, finishing his breakfast.

Dale stands up.

"Hmmm.."

Sabrina contemplates.

"Sabrina, take care of Laura for me, let's go Nate."

Dale gestured to me.

"You take care of my boy's Dale."

Sabrina says, Dale nods.

"I love you honey, stay safe."

Sabrina said, walking up to me and kissing my cheek.

"I love you too."

I stood up, hugged her and walked out of the house.

"Now you don't drive fast, Nathan, with Aiden in the truck."

Sabrina says, smiling.

"I won't."

I said smirking.

"I'm serious Nathan."

Closing the door, Sabrina stared at me.

Aidan and Dale are waiting for me.

"So what class did they tell that story, Aidan?"

Dale asks.

"History class."

Aidan says.

We walked to the elevator going down.

It opens, we walk towards the truck outside.

Dale tosses me the keys.

"Don't bang up my truck Nate."

Getting in the driver's seat, Dale sits in the passenger's seat.

"Let's go dad, I'm going to be late!"

Aidan says, anxiously ready to go.

I got in the truck and started it like I'd seen Dale do.

Over these past months.

Putting the truck in reverse and pulling out of the parking spot.

Switch the truck to drive.

I stepped on the gas.

Driving forward.

Breathing heavily, my anxiety subsided as I relaxed behind the wheel.

Driving in traffic.

"Where to now?"

I asked Dale.

He nods, as he guides me to the route I need to take.

On the way to Aidan's high school.

We reached there on time.

I put the truck in park in front of the school, waiting behind other vehicles.

Aidan seemed to be overjoyed by the crowd of children and teenagers.

Aidan stared out of the window.

"I will see you guys this afternoon, right? Uncle Dale?"

Aidan asked.

"Yeah."

Dale says.

"I'll see you later, Aidan."

I said, Aidan, waving at us both, smiling before he got out of the car.

Aidan rushes up to a girl, greeting her as he walks ahead.

That must be Nina.

The girl is extremely short and has long dark brown hair, but as she turns to me her eyes flash red as her pupils begin glowing purple for only a second.

I begin to feel dizzy, losing control of the vehicle driving forward, but Dale shakes me, stopping me from hitting the vehicle in front of us.

"Nate!"

He shakes me.

"Dale, I need to sleep for a second, take the wheel."

He helps me out of the driver's seat by pulling me out.

Dale guides me to the passenger's seat.

He starts the truck.

Closing my eyes, I opened them again.

"Nathan!"

Logan came screaming at me.

He is twelve years old, short with black hair and yellow eyes.

"What is it? What happened out there, Logan?"

I asked him.

"I don't know, I just saw a monster in the forest while I was hunting. I smelled a lot of it."

Hearing branches break underneath what sounds like a giant.

Catching a strong scent as the wind blows in our direction.

It's the scent of blood.

Logan leads me inside of the house, terrified of the anonymous creature.

We both hide in the corner, confused in fear.

The giant shadow approaches the small wooden house.

It feels like it's hovering over us.

I looked out the window to see it.

The beast scans the area.

Red liquid drips from its snout.

The beast looks in our direction.

I fall down in fear.

Its eyes look through the window.

The color of its eyes is bright yellow.

The beast rips the door open like paper.

The beast snarls.
