We had a moment

"Don't you have spare change with you?"

The cashier asked Elise with an upturned eyebrow as soon as she handed her a hundred dollar bill. Elise, on the other hand, looked back at the lady at the counter with a dumbfounded expression.

'That was already the lowest bill I have on my wallet. What should I do? I am running late for my exam'

The girl thought to herself in panic. Out of all the things she could forget, she happened to choose the most important thing. How could one expect to answer a test questionnaire if they did not have anything to use for writing?

"I don't have any. Can't you just keep the change? You see, I have to take an exam and I badly needed that pen."

Elise tried to explain her situation but before the cashier could even gave her an answer, someone butted in at their conversation.

"Here, just take this."

The voice said as it handed the cashier and exact amount.

"Let me pay it for you."

The man added when Elise refused to move aside. She had been at the counter trying to negotiate with the cashier for way too long. But what she failed to notice was that there was someone else that was waiting in line other than her.

"Next time prepare smaller bills if you are just looking to buy for a single pen."

The man advised Elise and when the girl tried to look behind her shoulder to see who was the owner of the voice, her eyes bugged out. She could not believe her eyes that she was looking at Kenneth at that moment.

"Thank you. I promise I will pay it back to you."

She told him softly as if in a whisper but Kenneth no longer talked to her after that. Elise felt like her entire face was burning and she could not help but turn red due to embarrassment. It was a good thing though that the other party was no longer looking at her way, otherwise he would think that she was blushing for him. So with her cheeks still flushed with a crimson color, Elise started walking to the exit with hurried steps.
