Chapter 32: Green-Eyed Beast

Gisella shook her head in confusion. “I do not… understand what you mean.”

Galeran shrugged his shoulders and tilted his head at her. The action was almost menacing, and she was loath to see the expression on his face. “I doubt you would, given the lies Ryre must have told you.”

Gisella doubted that very much.

“But we had a brother before, an older one, our mother and father’s first born.” Galeran moved to walk on the other side of her and Gisella bristled at his movements, “He was to be the next king. The people—court and commoner alike—loved him for all that he was.”

Galeran tutted, “And then the war campaigns began. Father believed our dear eldest brother had much to prove in order to become king, mother thought differently. The three of us would hear their screaming for hours. Mother had thought it an abandoning of her child to send him to war.”
