Side party

What's up birthday boy? Where are you?" Ronny's voice buzzed through the phone.

"Where am I? Where are you? Why aren't you here?" Sahil asked as he made some adjustments to his jet black haired head.

"We are waiting for you outside, sneak out fast. It's a surprise for you."

"Ronny it's my birthday party, will you explain what your plan is?"

"Half an hour late won't harm anyone, see you out." Ronny ended the call without bothering to listen further.

Sahil walked to the room window and looked at the guests arriving outside the house in their fancy cars and handling the keys to the valet.

This was far from the good idea but still Sahil went down the back stairs and while everyone was busy enjoying their time at his party, he sneaked out through rear door into the backyard.

Going round the house in the dark corners and shadows, not wanting to catch the attention of anyone, he exited the main outdoor gates and looked around for the surprise planned by Ronny.

"Sahil, this way." Hushed voice caught his attention.

"Ronny, Ahir, Kartik?" He approached the three of his friends sitting in car, grinning like a maniac.

"Get in man." Ahir said urging to pace up.

"What's with the surprise guys, I have to go back in."

Kartik threw the rear passenger door open and pulled him in via the jacket.

"What the hell? What's going on?" Sahil's voice trailed off as the engines roared and Ronny drove the car away.

"Are you going to be sober on your birthday? Let's go, enjoy, get drunk and then you can cut all the cake you want buddy." Ahir said turning up the volume of song buzzing in the car.

"There's wine in the party, you know that right?" Sahil said.

"Wine, as in those little fancy glasses, that has to go on for the entire conversation." Kartik said with a frustrated sigh.

"I agree with that, it's a bit annoying. You know what, let get on with our party first and then the boring house party. So where are we headed?" Sahil asked getting into the careless vibes along with his friends.

"Green bell club, dance, girls, bottles and back to your party." Kartik says along with his brief happy dance.

"Yey man, can't wait, let's roll." Sahil glanced out at the road filled with vehicles, big and small, head lights flicking from all the directions.

A careless, just turned 23 boy, Sahil was all for fun and trouble making, nothing ever came in his way of living the life to fullest, no even his otherwise strict mother Kavita.

Mother, friends and himself, there was no fourth in his life, ever.

"By the way, how is it going with Reet? She hasn't visited you at our flat since you came back from Paris." Ronny asked without looking off the road.

"She found her right match there."

"What? Man- are you okay?"

"You really asking me that Ron? Why won't I be okay?"

"You mysteriously broke up and didn't even tell us. We are your friends." Ahir said, clearly concerned for his friend but Sahil was as negligent as ever.

"Relax you guys, breakups are natural, you get into a relationship and you break up. It's like cause and effect."

"You know man, that's why I love you. Nothing can pierce your heart." Kartik said, still vibing to the music. As cars passed by, the four friends floated into the ocean of their juvenile age and life of privilege.

"Watch out watch out-" Ahir's voice jostled them back to the ground reality as Ronny closely escaped hitting someone's pet dog. Going off the original path with such a sudden moment their car scratched with the overtaking one. The, blue rival car pulled over to the side after few meters of more rolling and a woman in yellow midi jumped out, fuming.

"What the h-?" The woman looked around to catch the perpetrator and frowned as Ronny tried to give her a slip.

"Stop, stop you, don't try to drive away." Ronny couldn't bear to step on escalator anymore and hence, he too pulled over to the side of the road.

By the time Ronny could go out and explain the fuming woman of the real case scenario, she was joined by another of her companion or possibly a friend.

"Hi ladies. I see you are going to some party, honestly we too." Ronny started to speak but was cut short by the woman, Maira.

"Cut is out, how did you even got the licence to drive?" Maira asked, not as a question.

"I am really sorry mam, that puppy came out of nowhere."

"Nowhere? How can someone come out of nowhere? You should consider driving school young man. Let it pass Maira." Haity said as she gestured Maira to forgive him.

Maira and Haity were about to turn back when other three barged out and walked towards them.

"Excuse me madam, why are you harrasing our friend?" Ahir said trying to be polite.

"Thankfully we haven't done anything. The way your friend was driving, he should be scraped off his licence." Haity retorted as intimidating as possible.

"Wait wait, come on guys. Arguing with elders is bad manners." Sahil said giving a look of mockery and tease further frustrating the two women.

"I think when you are being such a notorious human you should not argue with anyone let alone an elder."

"Nice lecture, but unnecessary. You look gorgeous by the way."

"That was unnecessary too." Haity was about to turn and leave the, not so well kicking conversation but Sahil's words, hissing close to her ears stopped them in the tracks.

"Just because you are all-hot desirable woman, doesn't give you the right to stop any expensive car you see in the way and attempt to grab the attention of man way younger to you."

These words felt like venom to Haity's ears as all her cool astrayed and she raised her hand pushing Sahil away with all her might, making him stumble backwards. After being caught by his friends before touching the ground Sahil almost blew fire with his eyes at Haity.

"Mind you tongue." With these last three words Haity left the area and went back into the car followed by Maira who too, gave Sahil and his friends the last look of warning.

"Come on now Sahil let's not spoil our mood anymore." Ronny was saying as they got back inside the car.

"Mood is already spoiled and it's late enough. I can't disappoint mum, not today atleast. Let's go back."

"True man let join the party, your Mom won't forgive us if she discovered we disappeared you from your party." Ahir said and they returned with the wrecked spirits.

____

"How dare him?" 15 minute on the way and Haity was still bubbling with anger at Sahil.

"Calm down now Haity, you are going to forget about all this when we reach Ms. Kavita's."

"How are you so sure?"

"You will know soon enough. She is this amazing woman and sure know how to throw a party."

"Hope you are not just glorifying you boss."

"Obviously not. You'll see, cheer up now."
