Strangers

Chapter 82: Strangers

"Really?" Lance looked at Mia with an amusing look. Mia just laughed at the look that Lance gave her. Sure enough, they might have a wrong start but the more time that they spend together the more they click together.

"Yeah" then they just both laughed at the absurd conversation that they are having.

All of a sudden Mia stopped at her tracks and stared at nothing. Lance turned around just to see Mia's tears are already flowing in her cheeks.

"I'm really going to hell" the rush of memories playing like a movie on her head was too much to keep a façade. This is crushing her.

This is what they used to be. There a moments that both of them, Terrence and her just enjoy a quiet pacing just being together but there a also moments that both of them are so playful that none of their conversations can be comprehended by others but they both do know the meanings of those conversations.

She pushed him again away.

"I can't let him in my life again knowing that he wasn't even sure of himself" Lance understood right away what Mia was talking about.

Terrence had come to know Mia's situation.

Lance just enveloped Mia in his arms to comfort him. He can't say anything that would bring comfort to Mia. It would be a conflict of interest on his part and he is not that nice to be a masochist.

"Memories are hard to fight with" Mia broke out of his arms and gathered herself, "I'm sorry for being a mess" then she again chuckled at her pathetic situation.

"It would be easier to just get back together with him."

"It's not that easy" Mia looked away from Lance

"It will be once you decides to" then he started walking again.

"Should I be the one to do the decisions?"

It was a moment that Mia decided to have this conversation with someone that she barely knows. They might have worked together and went out a few times but this person who is she letting her heart out is stranger compared to Terrence.

'Why is it always easier to let a stranger know everything than someone close to you' it was a thought that played into her mind as they keep on walking around their neighborhood.

"The two of you both have the right to decide, do you both love each other?" Lance then waited for an answer but Mia just kept looking forward.

"Was it he as person you love or your memories together?"

Lance still continued to ask questions towards Mia.

"Or it is just you found a comfort zone being apart"

That statement had Mia stop and looked at Lance as if he hit a landmine.

"Sometimes the longer we are placed in a situation the better we adjust to the situation that it just gets too comfortable to get out of" Lance just continued walking leaving Mia behind.

He can feel it from the both of them. They might be friends that mostly spend their lives together but 4 years is not a small amount of time.

It is enough to make a person you know be a stranger again especially if you are apart without communication.

Mia catches up to him "I guess" then Lance stopped to let Mia catch her breath.

"Then you should start from there" He shouldn't be doing this but what his doing is exactly the opposite of who he really is.

Lance knows that what his doing might trigger Mia to think about her relationship with Terrence, which would be painful for him.

He might know that he is just and will always be a friend but Mia having a relationship would still hurt.

"He have hurt you, make you feel betrayed Mia, there is no way that you would just shrug everything and forgive him."

Lance looked into Mia's eyes trying to find answers to his speculation.

This is not about her dying. It's all about her trust.

"Mia you might be the most selfless person that I know in this world but as you said you are also the most selfish one."

With this moment with her, Lance realized that Mia is really aware of her feelings but is afraid to label her emotions.

"But a person inflicted with pain changes"

He is still staring at her.

"It makes you doubtful"

He is waiting for an answer.

"Makes you overthink and shut people out of your life"

This time Mia was the one who started walking, Lance just followed him and wait for her to speak up first.

"Maybe strangers can understand you better that you understand yourself" Mia then turned to him "Thank you for understanding me"

"All of the people around just assumed that I am okay and had moved on with everything"

Mia started to talk about what she really feel, it was the first time that someone even had a slightest idea on what she might have been thinking all this time.

"I know that you know about my medical condition" She already guessed that he knows when he showed up at her studio when she got back after her recent attack.

"Do you know why I wasn't doing anything about it?" Mia is a smart person, who knew herself more than anyone else, after the experiencing the feeling of betrayal from the people she trusted the most she had closed her emotions to anyone that could possibly bring it back.

That's why she decided to cut her ties with Luna and hide from everything.

She can easily abandon her memories and get better but…

"I want everything to just stop"

They reached the viewing deck near their neighborhood; Mia stared at the city lights and continued speaking

"At first I just want to secure Constellation and have my surgery and just start a new life, an easy way out. Leaving everything behind. I can restart my relationship with my family and start living the way I want without remembering any of the painful part of it, I just don't know if I will still be able to retain my skills and continue on making music."

Mia smiled a smile that didn't reach her eyes.

"Then this charade started"
