You take her hand and shake it once, introducing yourself to her before you ask her, "Why Larry?"
"Short for Lara…which is already pretty short, I know, but I prefer a more masculine name to fit in with people," she explains. "It also helps that calling myself Larry doesn't give people the idea that I'm white and have huge boobs," she gestures at herself. You stare at her for a moment, and she shakes her head. "Never mind," she grumbles to herself.
You give her a quick glance-over at this point. Definitely Indian, you're guessing, but a little on the pale side, and she's probably a year older than you are. She steps away from you while you're looking at her and says, "So…I'm guessing you're going to be one of my new squadmates, right?" You tell her that she probably is, and ask if she knows why she's being transferred to your squad.
"Because I made the request for the transfer," she says like it's the most obvious thing, causing you to raise an eyebrow before you ask her why. She gestures at you and says, "You've been at the center of a few incidents that happened recently, right?" You nod your head, asking her what this has to do with her request to be transferred here. She grins and says, "Well…I'm a Mage, you see, but unlike most Mages, I can't do any of the flashy things, like throwing fireballs or becoming a female version of Thor. My teachers used to tell me that my imagination is pretty limited for a Mage, and they always said, 'Lara, you need to jump into the air and grab a piece of the clouds so that—'"
You tap your foot impatiently and ask her to get on with it. "Right, right," she says quickly and clears her throat. "Well…what I do is I look into pools of water and I see things happen. Maybe it's things that happened in the past, sometimes it's things that happen in the future. I don't know. Anyways, about two weeks ago, I saw you standing in front of a giant Magitek engine, and it flashed a dark light (an oxymoron, I know), and then I saw nothing else," she says and ends it like that. You raise an eyebrow and ask her if that's it. She nods and says, "I know, right? Super mysterious and all that. I just had to see what all of that was about. So I got the transfer form filled out, and it got accepted immediately." Curious. You ask Larry what kind of explanation she gave to get the transfer through, and she says, "I said I had a vision which requires me to be transferred here. Higher-ups always take any sort of pre-cognition seriously."
Don't they suspect it as post-cognition instead, you counter.
