Chapter Seventeen - Realization (3)

In The Dining Room

At The Stephensons' Mansion

Jemima and her family could be seen taking their dinner silently. Mildred looked like she didn't want to take the fresh vegetables her mother had specially prepared for her but the young mother shot a glare at her and Mildred took it sulkily. The reluctant kid withdrew her gaze from her mother and looked at Jemima who was just eating with such straight-faced appearance. Nobody could guess what she was thinking about so they remained mute and kept their thoughts to themselves.

Jemima was done eating and wanted to go to her bedroom. Mr. Averill, the girls' father, decided to ask her about her day at her new school. Any parent would do the same thing but Jemima found it so intruding for her father to ask such question. She remembered the awkward incidents that happened at school; how Desha and her bloc humiliated her at the hallway, how her new friends welcomed her and the meeting with Jayden. After moments of silence, her cherry pink lips parted and she feigned a smile and said, "Good after all. I made new friends…they're very nice."

"Really?" Asked her mother who gaped at her with wild curiosity. She knew that Jemima was such an introverted person and barely had time to make friends. But all the same, she was happy that her daughter was finally getting to see light thru friendship.

Jemima nodded slightly. She felt like she was interrogated by some intrusive high-ranking authorities. She wasn't used to talking to her parents about friendship and relationship stuffs. "Yeah, there are three in number. Caitlyn, Shelbie and Khloé…hmm. Guesstimating from their looks, Shelbie happens to be a pure Betyrian and Khloé emitted the features of a Neruizean."

"Wow! I'm impressed…" Mr. Averill said and returned to eating his food. Jemima who was just standing and expecting them to talk saw that nobody had anything to say so she shuffled sluggishly to her room.

Ever since she was two years old, she had the sudden will to be an introvert, a weirdie and love to isolate herself from other people, even from her own family. She created her own world where loneliness and vacuity became her best buddies but that world was shut down by her BFFs in Hamill Dayle High School. They brought light into her vague life and she made them her very first friends. But now, she was attending a ritzy but crazy high school with another batch of girls as her new friends.

Now she stood in front of the wooden door of her bedroom, she rotated the knob of the door and pushed the door slightly. She took a deep breath and entered the room and she slammed it shut. However, these pathetic actions of hers was interrupted by a beep. Someone sent her a message…by this time of the night. Staring at the clock that was hung in her slightly dim room, it was quarter past eight. She grabbed her phone and stared at the message for too long.

Jayden had invited her to join the school social media pages. She was not that companionable with people of high-class. Just a silent and down-to-earth girl and she was okay with it, though she was invited to join the school social media pages. She accepted the invitation and switched off her phone.

After having a thorough bath and changing into her nightwear, she decided to peruse thru the school's social media pages. Thru this, she could be more familiar with the school things. After an hour of reading the hilarious posts, she could do nothing but laugh out her worries. The students were definitely snoops and stirrers in the matters of the topnotch families, always commenting and posting anything someone does. Such jobless meddlers!

She finally came to realize that she should be more cautious on anything she does or say, that was after watching the shameful videos of Desha and Jayden, their rumored relationship and how Jayden disparaged her in the library. Memories of Jayden's voice replayed in her head, she remembered the softness of his palm during their handshake and the smiles and winks he saved for her.

Jemima then got confused while watching the video. Jayden discharged such smothering aura while he was walking out of the library but it wasn't the same aura he discharged when he was chatting with her, he was emitting such exuberance and affability that one could wonder if he was a socialite. She brushed off the thoughts while she was watching other videos even though she could not place a finger in that but something was certainly off somewhere.

Skye Evander High School was definitely the best high school any scholar would wish to study in but such scholar must have to be thick-skinned and behave unfeelingly like a rhino. She wondered how she would cope in such gruesome environment but everything happens for a reason/purpose so she still had to maintain her calm and watch out for the future. She just had to be as peaceful as a dove but crafty like a serpent and swift like a cheetah.

Seeing that she could not do anything else, she switched off her phone and gazed at the clock again…it was already ten. She overspent her time surfing thru the school social media pages and forgot to flick thru her notes. Her class would have a test tomorrow according to the online students she chatted so she focused her full attention on her books.
