Chapter 57

"Isn't that ship behind you the Gabato Trading Company's SS Cloud? Why would a Shiga Kingdom noble have such a vessel with him?"

A disapproving expression gradually formed on the face of the harbour official as his gaze fell upon the imposing merchant vessel looming behind us. At this point, I had already gained the Lalagian Language skill, allowing me to comprehend him. It seemed to bear a close resemblance to Ishralliese.

"We found this vessel drifting unmanned, so we brought it with us. On board are…"

"Sir! This ship is full of suspicious-looking men!"

As Satou attempted to conclude his statement, a harbour employee, who had just boarded our accompanying vessel, loudly exclaimed.

"…some pirates we apprehended when they attacked us along the way."

We had gathered these men from a combined total of seven separate pirate vessels and three hideaways. The individuals we had saved from these outlaws now resided on our own deck. After thoroughly clarifying the matter to the director and his associates at the harbour authority office, I proceeded to accept certain rewards and sign consent forms for the sale of criminal slaves. The pirates would secure steady jobs as oarsmen on a galley in a short time. Once again, Satou left all this work to me while claiming to be too busy. As the harbour official departed with the documents, Liza and Nana entered in his place.

"Master Kura, we have found accommodation for the marquis's son and the other rescued victims in an inn recommended to us by the harbour authority,"

"Thank you, Liza,"

At least I had Liza and Nana helping me with the workload this time. Those affected individuals with connections or loved ones residing in Lalagi had already been transported there. We had arranged to cover transportation costs for individuals who had a residence to return to in a different location and provide some immediate financial aid for those who had no place to turn to. However, it would be up to them to make arrangements for their long-term needs. The profits gained from selling the treasure recovered from the pirates would be the source of these funds. Our Savings received the spoils from the pirates as bounties.

After completing the necessary paperwork, I returned to the ship. I arrived just in time to witness a middle-aged man pushing Lulu aside.

"Is it true that His Royal Highness Sabaan is here?!"

The individual appeared to hold the role of an ambassador from Ishrallie.

"Yes, if you mean Sir Sabaish, he is currently resting on that sofa,"

Although it may have been clear, we were officially transporting the messenger of the king of Ishrallie, Sabaish. Therefore, Satou insisted on sticking to the official narrative. Despite this, the ambassador appeared to be disregarding the matter entirely.

"Your Highness!"

"Indeed. I do appreciate your coming to greet me,"

Sabaan reacted in a similarly unsubtle manner. Following a brief conversation with the ambassador, the prince directed his attention towards Satou and me.

"Let us go, then, Satou,"

"Where to, exactly?"

Did we only need to bring the prince to his keeper at this location, or were there any other steps we needed to follow? I expected the prince to disappear, and then the king would call for us in a day or two.

"I heard from my father. You wish to speak with the king of Lalagi about the ancient Lalakie dynasty, correct? You may bring the knowledgeable girl Father spoke so highly of, as well,"

Satou eagerly accepted their generous offer. As for the rest of our group, we would make our way to the inn and get comfortable. Sara and I will have to wait for our meeting with the king as we see Satou off.

In the nice warm weather, we guide the freed slaves and prisoners to the inn and settle into the room we booked for ourselfs. Since we freed a lot of people, it is going to be pretty cramped with all of us girls plus Satou spending the night here. Even with the extra bed, the inn staff moved into the room. We hit the town once we dropped our things off and made our sleeping arrangements.

"Over here!"

"Goat meat, sir!"

It didn't take long before Pochi and Tama stuck their noses in the air and sniffed out the source of the delicious smell floating around in the air. Our first town tour stop was visiting the local food stalls. Most of them sold seafood, but a few vendors sold sweets and meat skewers. Everyone was getting sick of eating seafood again, so no one batted an eye at those dishes.

"Pochi, Tama. Don't grab food without paying for it,"

Pochi and Tama got so carried away that they started eating before we could even reach the vendor, earning a scolding from Liza as I brought enough skewers for everyone.

"We're sorry,"

"Pochi's been bad, sir,"

The goat meat skewer is pretty good. The meat is cooked while, and the sauce coating the skewer perfectly complements the meal. Even Mia looked happy eating it, even if, in the end, she gave half of hers to Pochi and Tama.

Once we had eaten, we all headed for the marketplace. Together, we buy everyday supplies we are running low on. Satou is good at keeping stock of most things but overlooks certain things. We even had a little fun at a clothing store trying on outfits until the store owner got annoyed that we weren't buying anything and threw us out. But for some reason, the others wanted to continue the fun back at the inn with me as a model. But it felt like I was just their dress-up game.

It turned out that Arisa and Sara had been making clothes together during our time at sea. The first piece of clothing I wore was a stunning royal blue velvet dress adorned with gold embellishments. The fitted bodice and full skirt made me feel like a true queen, and I couldn't help but twirl around in delight. The first outfit was a hit, and my friends' gasps of awe and admiration filled the room. But it is embarrassing being the only one dressing up.

Next, I changed into a crimson-red silk gown with a plunging neckline and flowing sleeves. The dress was accented with golden lace trimmings, giving it a regal and elegant touch. Walking down the makeshift runway, I could feel all eyes on me.

After that, a green tunic dress paired with cream-coloured chemise. The dress was simple yet beautiful, with delicate embroidery along the neckline and cuffs. I added a leather belt with a decorative buckle and completed the look with a circlet of fresh flowers in my hair. This ensemble was perfect for a relaxed and carefree day in the countryside.

The last outfit was a bit too much. I slipped into a black and silver corset with a floor-length skirt. The heavy black fabric contrasted with shimmering silver threads, giving the outfit a glamour. The corset cinched my waist and accentuated my curves. I was so embarrassed wearing something like that. It reminds me of the outfits I have seen high-class ladies of the night wearing close to the noble districts. I wanted to get changed out of this embarrassing outfit right away, but before I could…

"Excuse me, but Sir Rayleigh, the second son of Marquis Ashinen, wishes to invite everyone who saved him to a feast he is throwing downstairs to thank them,"

A barmaid knocked and stepped into the room. I wanted to change, but…

"A feast!"

"Time to eat, sir!"

Pochi and Tama ran out of the room while Nana grabbed hold of my arm.

"Hero Kura, let's go, I insist,"

"Wait, I need to change,"

"No time,"

Mia grabbed hold of my other arm, and I was carried out of the room with my pleas falling on deaf ears. I really don't want to be seen in this outfit. I tried to stay behind the others when we finally made it downstairs, but while I hid, Mr Rayleigh spotted Lulu and pulled her to the front.

"Brave hero, I have heard you and the master of these ladies are the ones we have to thank for our rescue,"

"Umm… but… I…"

Lulu started to panic and look around for help when Mr Rayleigh kissed her hand.

"Not a beauty, but I hear you have the strength to conquer kingdoms, brave hero,"

"B… but… I am…"

"Come now, don't be shy," Mr Rayleigh smiles. "Sit with me. I would like to hear a story or two of your adventures over a drink."

"But I…"

"Excuse me, Sir Rayleigh," Seeing as Lulu can't get through to him, I finally step out of hiding. Why do so many of the men have to stare at me with those hungry eyes? "Miss Lulu isn't the hero but a dear friend of mine." Even Mr Rayleigh is eyeing me up. I almost punch him when he scoffs at my chest. "My name is Kura Suou. I'm a knight in the service of Earl Seiryuu and the hero."

"You shouldn't lie about that stuff, miss. If you are looking for an extra trip, you should earn it the usual way,"

"But it is true, see," I use magic to create a ball of fire in my hand, then let it burn out after a few seconds pass. "I can even use magic without the need to chant."

"Then why are you dressed like that?"

"Certain circumstances lead me to be in these clothes. Hopefully, it won't be long before I can wear my regular outfit again,"

"I see," Even now, it still takes Mr Rayleigh a second or two to accept my claim and release Lulu's hand. "Then I should have that drink with you… hey, how about you join us, too?"

That bastard. In one swift movement he wraps an arm around Nana and grops her chest. At least Nana doesn't let him get away with it. With one powerful slap that was heard across the room, Mr Rayleigh hits the deck with a cartoon-like red hand print adorning his check.

"My chest belongs to my master and them alone, I declare,"

"I'm sorry, but please excuse us for a moment,"

Sensing a murderous arua surrounding the girls I lead them back to our room. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it, but it could cause problems in the future if they were to kill him. For now, I will just get everyone back to the room. Once everyone is calmer, I will ensure Mr Rayleigh apologises to Nana.

"Master, you shouldn't have stopped us,"

Pearl was the first one to complain once we were in the room. Liza and Lulu nodded in agreement while Pochi and Tama looked scared by the sudden change in the air and clung to my legs.

"Punishment,"

"Yeah, we need to teach him a lesson,"

Mia and Arisa voiced their opinion, but they would take things too far.

"I'm not defending him, but you can't take things too far. His parents are the ones who control the maze city, so if you anger them, it will make things difficult in the future,"

"…"

Silence fills the room, and the girls don't look any happier, but at least I believe they won't try anything that would cause trouble for us. Seeing this, I finally found the time to get out of this embarrassing outfit. But I only managed to get it off, and as I reached for my bra…

"Master!"

"Help, Sir!"

…Satou walked in. Carrying a sleeping Rei on his back, Satou proves he is still loved by a perverted god as he gets a good look at me. At least I am wearing panties, making it slightly better than last time. It doesn't feel any better, but it must be better, right?

"I'm back,"

"Welcooome!"

"Sir!"

As Pochi and Tama clung to Satou, I hurriedly got myself dressed. Hopefully, he will forget all about seeing me like this once he hears what just happened.

"Master! You won't believe this!"

"Mrrr. Death to noblemen,"

"Could you calm down first, please? You're scaring Tama and Pochi,"

"Ah... I'm sorry,"

"Apology,"

Mia and Arisa seemed to calm down when they saw what was happening to Pochi and Tama. They then tell Satou everything that happened downstairs, causing a scary look on Satou's face.

"U… um, master?"

"What is it?"

"You're making a really scary face…"

Arisa managed to hold Satou back. It looked like he might have stormed downstairs after hearing how Nana was assaulted. Satou took a deep breath to calm himself.

"Don't worry. He already got what he deserved,"

The other girls backed Arisa up.

"Kaslaaap?"

"Nana smacked him right in the face, sir!"

"It was a very good, firm strike,"

"I think she should have hit his other cheek, too,"

Following the previous remarks of the beastfolk girls, Lulu spoke up. This was unusual for her, but I couldn't fault her for despising someone who engaged in sexual harassment.

"My chest belongs to Hero Kura alone, I declare,"

I wish Nana hadn't said that. Everyone looks my way as soon as the words leave her lips. She probably doesn't mean anything by it. Besides, she was in the room when the king told me the kingdom law for upper nobles, which I would become at the end-of-year meeting.

"It's kingdom law. An unmarried head of an upper noble family without a legitimate heir has to have a child within a year. It doesn't matter if it's a proper husband or a second lover. You will have a grace period until the demon lords have been defeated but after that. You will have to find a partner and have a child within a year,"

When the king broke that news, Pearl, Mia and Nana were all with me. Sara is from a high-ranked noble family and is most likely aware of the kingdom's law. I told the others about it, but Satou thought I was joking. I can't wait to see the look on Satou's face when he finally realises just how honest I was. It probably won't be long until Satou reaches the upper ranks of nobility, no matter how much he tries to keep a low profile.

In the end, Satou went down to talk to Mr Rayleigh while I played card games with the girls in our room. He must have sorted everything out as when I looked downstairs, I saw him happily drinking with Mr Rayleigh. He even came up to our room and apologised to Nana for his actions later that night.

But it wasn't all well that ends well. Mr Rayleigh left the room thinking we were all part of Satou's harem. He even made some comments indicating that he believed Satou was planning on sleeping with us all tonight. Well, he was right, just not in the way he thought.

<0>

"Whew, I really worked up a sweat,"

"Nice job, Arisa,"

Satou used a handkerchief to gently remove the beads of sweat glistening on Arisa's forehead. Arisa had spent the day tirelessly selling beautiful glasswork in the bustling trading square.

"They sold at a great price, thanks to you,"

"Hee-hee, I have to remind you of my amazingness once in a while,"

With a proud grin, Arisa was pulled back by Satou towards the rest of us. Since we appeared to be staying here for some time, we had sought refuge from the scorching heat under a nearby shady tree.

"That's a lot of people over there,"

"Yes, they're all trying to get ice,"

Several individuals had formed a large group around the ice pillar I had crafted to provide relief from the heat. Among the crowd, numerous children wore identical outfits, as per Satou's explanation, the standardised attire of Lalagi Magic School.

"I bet a shaved-ice stand would make a killing here,"

"No kidding," Satou nodded and quickly scanned the group to ensure we were all prepared. "Shall we go?"

"Wait a minute, sir!" Someone called out from the pillar of ice. "What about your ice pillar?"

"You can keep using it to keep cool,"

The crowd's enthusiastic response was so thunderous that I feared it would strip the leaves off the surrounding trees. It was hot today, but I thought the locals would be used to this weather, but I was wrong.

<0>

"Sweet 'n' yummyyy?"

"Nougat is so sweet and strong, sir,"

"Mm. Tasty,"

"It's...very good,"

The youngest children indulged in molasses candies, a leftover treat from our recent visit to the sugar refinery. It had been ages since I had savoured something so sugary that it made my teeth ache.

"I think you're supposed to dip this pastry in it, not eat it with your fingers,"

Lulu was absolutely right. The pastry had a distinct nutty flavour that seemed to pair perfectly with the rich, syrupy candy. It was almost as if it was meant to be enjoyed together, with each bite of the pastry perfectly complementing the sweetness of the candy.

"Delicious,"

"Hero Kura, my sweetness detectors are experiencing an anomaly. Requesting regulation, I entreat,"

Liza responded casually, but Nana approached me with quivering lips. The sweetness may have been a bit overwhelming for her. Besides the regular brown sugar and molasses, the sugar factory also offered rock candy and pure, premium white sugar. While the former was easily obtainable, the latter was considered luxurious and only produced in limited amounts. Therefore, it was mainly enjoyed by members of the local aristocracy.

"If you wish, Liquor Marquis Pendragon, we could gladly arrange for some rock candy and high-grade sugar for you,"

"I would appreciate that. We're renting a storehouse in the harbour, so please have it delivered there,"

Satou scored a pretty valuable title when he met with the ruler of Lalagi. Liquor Marquis has significant tax cuts and fewer trade restrictions. It is a title people spend years trying to obtain, and Satou somehow managed to be handed such a title after just one meeting with the king. Since we had such a great title, we decided to use it. Ordering white and brown sugar by the barrel load, and molasses since they were so affordable here.

"N… now, Sir Liquor Marquis, there is one thing I'd like to ask..." Satou was given an unexpected request by the owner.

"You want me to tell you what the legendary liquor tastes like, but you're not asking to try it yourself?"

"Yes, I thought that as a liquor marquis, you are likely to have tasted it,"

"Well, they say the proof is in the pudding. Why don't I have you try a sip?"

Satou handed him a small vial of Fairy Wine. With closed eyes, the owner savoured the aroma emanating from the vial's opening before gingerly bringing it to his lips. His trembling hands poured a small amount of the fairy wine into his mouth, a look of pure bliss on his face. Clearly, he had a deep passion for alcohol. As promised, he stopped after just one sip and closed the vial, handing it to Satou.

"What a magnificent wine. Truly, my meagre vocabulary could not even begin to describe its complexity,"

Tremors of intense feeling coursed through his body. Satou delicately returned the vial to his grasp with a soft touch of his hand.

"Please keep it. I'm giving that to you,"

"A… are you certain?"

"Very. The brownies who gave this to me would surely be pleased for someone who loves liquor as much as you to drink it,"

"Do you think he will give his body to Satou as thanks?"

Arisa asked while breathing heavily and clearly having impure thoughts, watching her master and owner talk. Since Satou is busy dealing with the now teary-eyed owner of this factory, I take it upon myself to punish Arisa with a swift bump on the head.

As we bid farewell and departed from the sugar factory, the man persisted in expressing his gratitude towards Satou.

The following day, our shipment of molasses arrived at the warehouse, along with several barrels of rum, beef jerky, and other goods. The gifts the owner had thrown in from his farms and wine cellar were rumoured to be incredibly delicious. The Lalagi beef, raised on a sugarcane dreg diet, was praised for its flavour. Additionally, the owner had arranged for some of the beef to be delivered to our inn, resulting in a steak-and-hamburger extravaganza that evening.

The Lalagi-style steaks took me by surprise using a sugar-based dry rub. Still, I was quickly won over by their tenderness and flavour when paired with the delectable sweet sauce. Before I even realised it, I found myself ordering seconds. Maybe I should send the factory owner some of my Fairy Wine as thanks for the tasty meal.

<0>

"So this is the Box?"

"That's right. You are free to take a closer look, too, little girl,"

Following our trip to the sugar factory, just two days had passed when we found ourselves in the chapel-like inner chamber of the Lalagi royal castle. Our purpose was to lay eyes upon the mysterious Box, often referred to as the Lalakie Box. It doesn't look impressive, but the Skeleton King must want it for a reason.

"A white...box,"

Rei's usual trance state did not seem to be triggered by The Box, as it failed to stir any memories for her. The king of Lalagi appeared visibly displeased by Rei's apathy towards the object.

"Sir Pendragon, try giving it some magic power,"

"Are you certain?"

"Go on. It will only make the surface glow,"

Satou nodded and put a tiny amount of magic into the Box.

"This device can only be used by senior personnel. Please speak your identification number,"

The voice from the Box startled me and caused Satou to jump back, but we weren't the only ones.

"Wh… what is this voice? What does it mean by senior personnel?!"

"I… I don't know,"

The king and crown prince were taken aback, and the other nobles echoed their shock in hushed murmurs.

"La. 1090609. Rei…"

As the voice mesmerised Rei, she began to utter a number, but I quickly intervened before it was too late. Satou said this Box was nothing more than a mundane maintenance tool. However, the potential consequences would be unpredictable if Rei could activate it in a situation where even the royal family failed.

Quickly, Satou retrieved the magic energy from within the Box, abruptly interrupting its repeated declaration and shutting it down.

"Whew, that was close. Your Highness, this Box seems to have a mechanism that rejects anyone but royalty. The security system might have activated and destroyed your treasure,"

"What do you mean, 'security'?"

"An anti-theft automatic self-destruct function,"

The king appeared uncertain, yet Satou utilised his 'Fabrication' technique to devise a reason. This skill was at its maximum level, making it incredibly potent, and the king was convinced by Satou's fabricated tale.

Despite the minor mishap, the well-rehearsed ceremony went smoothly inside the sacred space. In a matter of minutes, the Box would be placed on a movable altar and paraded down the central boulevard. Security was expected to be tight, but there was no predicting if the Skeleton King or Yuuneia would appear. It didn't take long before something went wrong.

"Your Highness! We've just received a report from one of the coastal watchtowers!"

As the king stood on the balcony, he waved to his people. Suddenly, a soldier hurried up to him from below.

"Go on,"

"A giant sea-dwelling monster has appeared in the sea to the east,"

"What sort of monster exactly?"

The soldier hesitated for a moment.

"What is it, man?"

"I… it's an octopus-type monster... Possibly one of the sea lord's spawn,"

"Prepare the castle's Magic Cannons. Suspend the festival and evacuate the people to the underground shelter,"

"Yes, sir!"

The king's vassals immediately sprang into action.

"T… terrible news!" Another messenger appeared.

"Calm down! What is it now?"

"A ghost fleet has appeared in the sky to the west,"

"Seems like they're both diversions,"

"Of course. That empty-headed skull always uses such obvious tactics. He'll come at us himself from either the north or the south,"

As the king boldly declared, Satou detected the Skeleton King's arrival from the northern sea, accompanied by a swarm of monstrous fish from the south. However, Satou remained sceptical, suspecting it to be yet another distraction.

"You mentioned an 'empty-headed skull.' Does that mean you know who's attacking, Your Highness?"

The king nodded.

"It is said that the filthy undead monster who calls himself the companion to the final queen of Lalakie seeks the remains of the main engine from the floating island era, which are kept deep within this castle,"

So the Skeleton King's not after the Box? It must really be useless.

"Have you ever spoken with this creature directly?"

"Nay, only the king of two generations ago was foolhardy enough to do such a thing,"

Even though the king could speak Hallowed Language, I had thought he would try to negotiate with the Skeleton King. Much to my surprise, this was not the case. It seemed as though they viewed these attacks as mere acts of nature.

"Forgive my insolence, but might it not be safer to return the Box to the castle?"

"You are quite the worrier, Sir Pendragon." A rare smile graced the king's face. "Fear not. I have already ordered for the Box to be returned. Besides, no undead monster could ever break through the holy protection of the Heavenslight Protection given to us by the gods. If the undead attempted to break through, they would simply be purified and turned into ash,"

In that scenario, it was likely that the Skeleton King would not attempt to pilfer the Box. Letting out a sigh of relief, we agreed to depart to not burden the bustling ruler of Lalagi.

"Your Highness, given the situation, I believe we had best leave you be,"

"Indeed. You should hasten to the underground shelter, too,"

The king paid no attention to us, his gaze fixated on the sea lord's spawn that had breached the barrier surrounding the bay.

"Let's go, Rei,"

"Y… yes, Satou..."

<0>

"Th… the Sea Lord's coming for us!"

"Don't worry! His Highness will protect us somehow!"

"Official orders from the king! Evacuate to the underground shelter until the monster has been defeated!"

The town's residents were trembling with fear as they witnessed the monstrous octopus in the harbour waters. However, their faith in the king and the prompt evacuation directive prevented them from succumbing to panic. The castle town was enveloped in a shimmering dome of protection emanating from the powerful Heavenslight. The entire area was illuminated by its celestial glow, ensuring the castle's and its inhabitants' safety and security.

As the monstrous sea creature hurled a rock at the dome, it collided with a thunderous crash, causing shimmering waves of light to reverberate across its surface. Accompanied by a bell-like echo, this sound seemed to possess a mystical quality, soothing the people in its presence. We made our way down the deserted streets and eventually reached the square where we were to meet our companions.

"Liza! Is everyone here?"

"Yes, master. We are all prepared for battle,"

"I'm sorry, but I need you all to evacuate underground,"

As he spoke, Satou handed out various magic items for self-defence.

"Queen's Ring, a defensive magic item held by the queen of Lalakie,"

As soon as Satou slipped the topaz ring onto Rei's finger, she again fell into a trance. Although it seemed like a significant object, there was no time to discuss it. Therefore, he passed responsibility for Rei and the ring to the rest of the group.

"Arisa, take this seal slate. If anything happens, call me with telephone,"

"Okey-dokey!"

Arisa's telephone had limited range, prompting Satou to grant her permission to utilise her unique skill 'Over Boost' only in the event of an urgent situation. Before our departure, Satou took the time to provide Pearl, Sara, Arisa, and Liza with additional and comprehensive details regarding the potential threat of the Skeleton King or Yuuneia targeting Rei's hair ornament. Although they were not within the Heavenslight Protection dome, I had reservations about their ability to easily gain entrance.

"Time to go,"

"Let's do this,"

Satou and I nodded and took off into the sky as Satou changed his appearance.

The enemy approached from all four directions, leaving no escape for anyone. In the east, a formidable octopus monster boasting a level 51 and skills in 'Water Magic,' 'Water Resistance,' and 'Regeneration' lurked. The small ghost ship, carrying Yuuneia, sailed alongside it. The west was crowded with a fleet of twenty-eight ghost ships, each carrying a group of sixty or so skeleton soldiers ranging in levels from 30 to 45. In the south, a large school of undead monster fish, all below level 30, swam menacingly towards us. And in the north, the mighty Skeleton King awaited.

Satou, as Nanashi the Hero headed north toward where the Skeleton King was approaching over the ocean. Meanwhile, I headed towards the fleet to the west. We both agreed the fleet posed the most danger to the city.

"Dance, Claidheamh Soluis,"

The lead vessel of the fleet, which resembled the SS Cloud, was now a haunting ghost ship. Its crew aligned precisely with the number of individuals mysteriously absent from the unmanned vessel. With great energy, I infused the Claidheamh Soluis into a set of thirteen powerful blades.

SKREEEEEEEE!

The wails of the skeleton sailors reverberated through the entire sky, instilling a sombre and mournful atmosphere. Despite the haunting sound of their cries, I couldn't help but send a silent prayer their way before embarking on my offensive.

As the Holy Sword soared through the air, it cleansed the ghost ships and skeletal warriors, leaving behind a trail of sparkling blue radiance. Occasionally, a deadly projectile from a Magic Cannon on a ghost ship would come barreling towards me. Still, with my nimble, Flexible Shields, I effortlessly intercepted them. I siphoned their magic energy through Mana Drain, replenishing my MP.

Silently gleaming, the Holy Sword Claidheamh Soluis once again hovered by my side. I gathered it and embarked towards the south, successfully obliterating the horde of undead aquatic creatures. Satou, meanwhile, had driven the Skeleton King into fleeing to the Spirit World and was already dealing with Yuuneia, forcing her to retreat as well. We were just about to head back when Arisa contacted us.

"Come back quickly!"

"We will be right there,"

Without hesitating, I teleported back to the group without inquiring about the situation. I already had a good idea as to what was happening.

"Why do you reject me, Sister?"

Their primary aim must have been this. My arrival was greeted by Yuuneia's, where I found her in a standoff with my companions, who were shielding Rei on the other side of the room. As Yuuneia spoke to Rei with a deflated tone, the false hair adornment belonging to Rei lay at her feet. It seemed that the cleansing mechanism of the ornament was triggered when Yuuneia took it from Rei.

As I was still in contact with Arisa through the telephone, I informed her of my arrival. I positioned myself close enough to intervene if necessary and tuned in to Rei and Yuuneia's discussion. Satou was also present, although he had rendered himself invisible. He probably thought this might be an excellent time to get some intel like me and hasn't made a move yet.

"I'm...scared..."

"Why...? Why would you be scared of me, Sister?! I'm your only sibling!"

Rei was filled with even more fear as Yuuneia's anger caused the miasma to swirl and rise up around her.

"I… I don't...remember you..."

"What do you mean...?"

"The larva has amnesia, I inform," Yuuneia's question was answered by Nana.

"I… it can't be..."

Yuuneia's face was a battleground of emotions: perplexity, hopelessness, and ultimately, ire and exasperation. She was entirely engulfed by these tumultuous feelings, as evidenced by her bowed head and arms wrapped tightly around her body. The trembling of her hands exposed the inner turmoil she was experiencing. In an outburst of emotion, she gazed up at Rei and yelled accusingly.

"...It's not fair; it's not fair; it's not fair!"

"Not fair?"

Rei appeared to be at a loss for words in reaction to the abrupt statement.

"How can you forget everything and live in peace while I suffer the curse of the binding chains in your place?!"

Perhaps the term 'curse of the binding chains' referred to the oppressive miasma chains and shackles that bound Yuuneia. As her right eye, which had been restored to its usual state, began to revert to the same inverted colouring as her left eye, it seemed like the curse was taking over again.

"Who said you had to suffer?!" I step out of hiding, making Yuuneia jump back and take a defensive stance. "Why do you even have to suffer in the first place? Why should Rei? Why would you even want to suffer?"

"But we have to! You wouldn't understand. It is our fate to suffer and fulfil our father's goal,"

"That's stupid," I shake my head at Yuuneia's answer, hating the Skeleton King more and more. "Why can't he suffer if it is his goal. What kind of father would make his daughter suffer for his selfish ambitions?"

"Shut up! You… you don't understand!"

"Calm down!" Arisa exclaimed. "I'm sure our master can free you from that curse with his cheating powers!"

"Th… the black-haired demon!" Satou removed his Nanashi disguise and charged at Yuuneia. Seeing hid face, Yuuneia screamed as if a horrifying monster had appeared before her. "D… don't come any closer! I'll be back for you, Sister,"

In an effort to capture Yuuneia and rid her of the miasma surrounding her, Satou employed the use of 'Warp' to draw closer to her. However, as she stood there, a repulsive undead body began to emerge from the darkness beneath her.

Satou came to a sudden halt, and at that moment, he was bombarded by ghostly birds from every direction. They were just copies and not that strong. When Satou punched them, all the copies burst into feathery black shadows. The figure of Yuuneia dissipated into nothingness as the dark feathers twirled around her.

"Sister! Remember who I am by the next time I come to you! You absolutely must!"

"You don't have to suffer,"

I call out as Yuuneia gives her parting words. Echoing throughout the room was Yuuneia's voice, yet this time, there was no trace of a wormhole originating from it. She had finally learned her lesson. Sara, meanwhile, quickly took care of the undead creature with her holy magic.

"Rei, are you hurt?"

"I'm...fine,"

"Larva, I have recovered your hair ornament, I report,"

Nana reattached The fake hair ornament to Rei's hair as Satou checked her for injuries.

"Master, bad news! Rei's hair ornament is gone!"

"Kura,"

As I faced Mia and Arisa, my attention was drawn to Rei's Fairy Pack-style pouch, which had toppled onto the ground, causing its contents to scatter. Rei's had no user limitations, unlike the other children's bags, indicating that Yuuneia or the spectral bird must have taken the key away.

Our victory in the battle was overshadowed by our loss of advantage in the war. Satou quickly located the hair ornament and the Lalakie Box in the Spirit World. Skeleton King must have stolen the box while we were dealing with Yuuneia. Though I was somewhat annoyed, our utmost concern was shielding Rei from the Skeleton King, and thankfully, she remained unharmed.

<0>

"Miss Hero, I beg you to lend us your aid,"

I received an invitation to the royal palace in Lalagi to have an audience with the king. Surprisingly, he appeared to have aged significantly since our last encounter.

"The Skeleton King has stolen the Box... Soon, the world will end. The letter from the king of Ishrallie said that the Flame Lord's seal had been undone. And that it was the doing of the Skeleton King..." Continuing, he spoke in a low tone, his words filled with distress. "If the Skeleton King was foolish enough to release the seal in order to steal the Blazeshine Sword that held it in place, despite his fear of Doghead and his kin, then he must have found a way to bring Lalakie back to the skies."

The monarch appeared undeniably self-assured regarding this matter. I recall that Yuuneia had uttered similar sentiments when we first crossed paths with her.

"All we need now is a large crystallised Firelight Pearl, the Box, and your key, and we'll be able to bring Lalakie back to the skies!"

It seemed likely that he intended to wield the Blazeshine Sword. This very weapon had imprisoned the Flame Lord in place of the gem I possessed from the Crimson Cane. Using a fire-attribute object to bind a fire-attribute creature appeared odd. However, there was no justification for the king to be deceptive.

"If he offers up the elemental jewels at the Seal- tower Islands and Lalakie rises into the sky, then the most powerful of Doghead's kin, the Sea Lord, will be unleashed. Doghead's kin will run rampant on land and sea. The Skeleton King will control the floating island Lalakie and its Divine Wrath Cannon in the sky..." The ruler of Lalagi gazed upwards as though he could perish at any given time. "...There is nowhere left to go if you don't help us."

"Don't worry, I will," I tell him. The king's eyes were filled with a faint glimmer of hope. "You saw for yourself that his forces are no match for me. I have already defeated the Flame Lord and will stop the Skeleton King from returning Lalakie to the sky."

It is about time I let people know that the Flame Lord has been dealt with. Satou was the one who killed it, but he didn't want the credit, and it would help ease the king's panic if I claimed to have defeated it.

"I defeated Tobkezerra and the other giant monster fish when they appeared in the Shiga Kingdom,"

I start listing achievements, not to brag, because I can see the king's hopes grow as I list them.

"Th… the giant monster fish Tobkezerra?!"

I nodded and continued speaking.

"Not only that, but I have defeated Great Hell Demons and even the Demon Lord. The Skeleton King doesn't stand a chance,"

"Well then, I suppose I cannot simply cower in here any longer. I must go and reassure the people,"

As a glimmer of hope filtered into the king of Lalagi, he regained his strength. He set out to pacify the panicked citizens of the castle town in the aftermath of the Skeleton King's assault. I was confident that he could handle the remaining tasks. Before departing from the castle, I requested further details about the Sealtower Islands from the king.

"Hero Kura, we are prepared for departure, I declare,"

With a nod to Nana on the deck, I watched as Satou commanded the figurehead golem Scarecrow to begin our journey. The Sealtower Islands, rumoured to be the Skeleton King's intended destination, lay somewhere within the Kraken's Domain. And thus, we departed from the Kingdom of Sorcery Lalagi, determined to thwart the Skeleton King's scheme to revive Lalakie.

<0>

"Master! There are seabirds circling around up ahead!"

Shouting from her position on the mast, Liza alerted the crew.

"We finally found them,"

"Uh-huh. I'll finish them off with a single slice,"

Arisa's face lit up with enthusiasm, mirroring Satou's own eager grin. The orichalcum alloy knives they held in their hands seemed equally excited to finally be put to use. But looking at them was kind of scary when they were like that.

"All right, I'll be right back,"

"Good luck,"

"You can do it, sir!"

With a swift farewell gesture, Satou departed from the deck. If you want to know what got him so excited, the answer is simple. Fish, more specifically, Tuna. He has apparently been hunting it ever since we set sail. I like tuna as much as the next person, but I think he and Arisa are getting too carried away. Arisa practically cheers him on as if Satou is some famous athlete competing for the gold while Satou is mercilessly slaughtering every fish he detects.

Unexpectedly, the tuna soared up and caused a splatter of seawater, surpassing my expectations with its large size. It was as large as our ship. But I am sure Satou can handle it but just in case, I ask Lulu to be ready with her magic gun. She almost certainly won't use it, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

I go back to relaxing in the shade, enjoying the tropical fruit drink Sara had made while making stuffed toys. I originally planned to make only one for Rei, but everyone else wanted one, so I was kept pretty busy during our trip. I even made one for Satou, even though he was the only one who hadn't asked. Right now, all I have left is to put the finishing touches, and I can hand them out.

"Master, behind you!"

Lulu cried out, but when I looked, I saw nothing to worry about as Satou seemed to be enjoying himself as he sliced one tuna after the other into clean pieces. I would be worried about the joy he is taking in this slaughter if I hadn't known he was only happy about being able to eat tuna after so long.

After a quick glance at the one-sided battle, I return to finishing the stuffed toys. I made everyone a different animal and gave them uniquely coloured clothes. Now, I just need to add their eyes, and they are done. I wonder if I should give them some accessories. I have enough supplies, but that is probably not necessary. I just leave them as they are for now.

<0>

"Ah, it's melting in my mouth,"

"Very... yummy,"

While Arisa and Rei savoured the ootoro sashimi paired with a touch of wasabi and soy sauce, I couldn't resist grabbing my own set of chopsticks. Lulu, Tama, and Pochi's curiosity were piqued, but Liza halted their actions, causing them to simply observe from the sidelines as Satou ate some himself.

Finally, after much anticipation, I tasted the coveted ootoro. The excessive fat content dissolved on my palate, releasing a delectable tuna flavour. Before this, I had indulged in ootoro during my time in Japan, but the experience was completely elevated on this occasion. I am starting to understand why Satou and Arisa were so excited about this.

The flavour of this dish was unparalleled, and its richness made just one serving enough to satiate my cravings. Yet, I couldn't resist taking an additional bite. Its delectability is simply unbeatable. Satou arranged a selection of various wasabi and soy sauce options to determine the perfect pairing. To my surprise, I devoured a serving of sashimi with only the first soy sauce. It was just so good I couldn't help myself.

"Ah, I can die happy now,"

"Yes... It was very, very... good…"

Arisa and Rei breathed a contented sigh.

"Meeew?"

"I… I want to try it, too, sir,"

Liza continued to detain Tama and Pochi, who had now ceased their struggle and were fixated on the dessert plates with lips coated in their saliva.

"You mustn't. Raw fish has a high chance of giving you a stomachache,"

"I want to try it even if my tummy hurts after, sir,"

"Me too,"

"I… I'm willing to take the risk, too,"

Despite Liza's efforts to discourage them, Pochi, Tama, and even Lulu appeared resolute this time.

"It's all right, Liza. I've already removed any parasites or eggs that could make us sick,"

"Master... Very well, then. Since the three of them seem quite firm about this, I shall test it first as a guinea pig,"

The somberness on Liza's face was palpable. While her willingness to put others before herself was commendable, including a guinea pig in our meal seemed unnecessary when some of us had already consumed plenty. Placing some tuna sashimi on a plate, Satou handed it to Liza, who nervously used her chopsticks to pick up a piece of ootoro. She closed her eyes tightly and stuffed the entire bite into her mouth.

"I… impossible..."

As soon as the other girls saw the amazement in Liza's eyes, they eagerly grabbed their forks and chopsticks.

"Fishy, yummyyyy?"

"It's so squishy and juicy and tasty, sir!"

"This is amazing, master! Tuna is unbelievably delicious!"

"Oh, wow. I haven't tasted anything like this before,"

As they eagerly reached for another bite, Tama, Pochi, Lulu and Sara all expressed their admiration for the delicious taste.

"...Delicious," Contentedly, Liza gently touched her cheek and whispered with pure happiness. Surely, she must have enjoyed the experience. "I see now why you were so beside yourself about acquiring this, master."

"Want to try it...Nana?"

"If you insist, larva, then I shall do so. I consent,"

"You too, Mia..."

"Mrrr. No,"

Though Nana yielded to Rei's charming plea, Mia despised high-fat foods and, therefore, refused by making an 'X' gesture in front of her mouth.

"It is delicious, but it would be even more so if cooked, I declare,"

"Yes, tuna steak might be good, too,"

As he prepared a dish at Nana's request, Satou's demeanour gave the appearance of someone struggling to hold back tears. He can be so dramatic at times. I heard somewhere that tuna was good when cooked, so it can't be that bad.

"Ahhh, what a waste..."

"It smells good, though, doesn't it?"

Arisa looked just as Sad as Satou, but Lulu appreciated the good smell like I did. The aroma definitely whetted the appetite of anyone around. Tama and Pochi served as evidence as they stood by the barbecue, inhaling the fragrance and slobbering copiously. After completing it, Satou proceeded to slice it and gave the initial two portions to Tama and Pochi.

"Yaaay!"

"Thank you, sir,"

The duo scooped up the tuna steak with their forks and lifted it towards their mouths.

"Très bieeen?"

"It's almost as strong as Professor Hamburg, sir!"

Tama and Pochi's faces instantly lit up with broad grins as they excitedly waved their fists. However, mere arm-waving was insufficient to convey their sheer joy, prompting them to stomp around with exuberance on the deck. Perhaps it was just a figment of my imagination. Still, I believe I even witnessed tears welling up in their eyes.

"Master, as I surmised, tuna is better cooked than raw, I insist,"

"It is...really good...cooked. But I think...the sashimi...was even better..."

"Grrr, I hate to admit it, but it is really good,"

Nana was utterly enamoured with the tuna steak, while Rei delicately expressed her own liking and as for Arisa. Even though her mouth was full of tuna steak, Arisa couldn't help but frown with reluctance.

"It's quite delicious. The taste is somewhat similar to beef,"

"Yes, it really is tasty,"

"It's delicious,"

It appeared that Liza and Lulu were content as well. Sara, meanwhile, is eating with tears rolling down her cheeks. I wondered why I hadn't heard anything from Pearl about the food, but when I saw her cheeks stuffed with food, I got my answer. She probably likes the tuna more than any of us.

"Kura,"

Mia nuzzled her cheek against me in a blatant display of jealousy, indicating that she felt excluded. To appease her, I offered her half of the steak that I was enjoying.

"Yummy…" Mia let out a happy sigh as she took a bite and leaned into my side.

<0>

"Ah, that was delicious,"

After finishing cleaning up from dinner, Arisa plopped down next to Satou and me, reclining against the ship's forecastle.

"Did you finish cleaning up?"

"Why, of course, we did. So, have you figured out our route from here?"

As Satou began to outline our planned route to Arisa, I employed the Illusion spell from Light Magic, known as Illusion, to project the map data of the Kraken's Domain, which was located adjacent to the Kingdom of Sorcery Lalagi. I had just learned it from Satou and was happy for the chance to practice the spell.

"This is where we are now, and these four points are the Sealtower Islands,"

We believed that the Skeleton King intended to position a gem, reminiscent of the Crimson Cane's, on any of the four islands to resurrect Lalakie. I had various methods to thwart his plans if necessary. Satou was also capable of eliminating all traces of the islands if needed.

"What's the scale on this map?"

"One inch is about twenty miles," I explained.

"Wait, then they're super far apart! Won't it take days to get to all of them?!"

With a sudden jolt, Arisa leapt up in astonishment, her loud cries escaping unnoticed by the others, thanks to Satou's use of the Secret Field spell to create a sound barrier around us.

"Right now, we're trying to get to this spot," Satou continued.

"The middle of the four islands? But there's nothing there, is there?" Perplexed, Arisa furrowed her brows, prompting me to enlarge that specific section of the map. "Another island?"

"That's right. We could go to each of the islands, but they're all pretty far apart. It seems likely that there'd be something important on the centre island, right?"

"True. And even if there isn't, if something happens on one of the islands, we can get to any of them in about the same amount of time, so... that makes sense, yeah,"

Arisa quickly caught on to Satou's and my thought process and nodded in agreement.

"Hmm? But up is north on this map, right? Aren't we going off course?"

"There's a place I want to stop at on the way," As we traversed the ocean, we frequently stopped at different islands to place seal markers, causing our path to become entirely meandering. Despite this, we were still headed further south than intended. "I have some business over here."

"What is it?"

"The roc lives on this island,"

"You really want to go sightseeing right now?"

Arisa's eyebrows lifted in surprise, but Satou firmly shook his head in disagreement.

"No, no. The Sky Lord is on that island,"

To avoid any potential interference while confronting the Skeleton King, we planned to take care of the Sky Lord, who was believed to be related to the Dogheaded Demon Lord, a foe of the floating island Lalakie. The man was already relatively swift in escaping; therefore, the last thing we wanted was to provide him with another opportunity to escape.

<0>

"So this is the roc, huh?"

As its wings expanded, the bird matched the size of the island that served as its nesting spot. And I get to fight it this time.

PYWEEEEEWN!

Amidst a deafening shriek, the colossal, bomber-esque creature ascended into the heavens, seemingly relying on the power of Wind Magic. Satou reported that the Sky Lord, a creature of the roc species, was slightly more powerful than the Flame Lord at level 87.

With a wave of my hand, I imbued Claidheamh Soluis with a holy energy, extending its blade to formidable lengths. In one swift motion, I enchanted the tip with the power of Sacredblade, further elongating it to pierce even the Sky Lord.

PYWEEEEEWN!

I skillfully deflected the Sky Lord's wind-blade-filled tornado using my own wind spell, Air Cannon. It seemed like the Sky Lord was taken aback, although that could have been a figment of my imagination. With precision, I evaded the compressed-air shots fired at me like anti-aircraft missiles and nonchalantly sliced through the Sky Lord's sturdy neck with my glimmering blue sword. Satou was right about this creature being a glass cannon with no defence.

I wasn't sure how it would taste, but I collected the Sky Lord's body. With so many meat eaters in our group, we could always use more meat. One of Liza's beloved dishes was grilled chicken skewers, so she will be happy to hear I captured the body.

After storing the massive body, I made my way towards the central nest on the island. Inside, I discovered a collection of roughly twenty colossal eggs resembling small houses, an abundance of bones, and a heap of riches. Similar to crows, rocs appeared to have a fondness for shiny items, including gemstones as large as eggs, such as emeralds and sapphires. While most of the bones belonged to various monsters and sea creatures, a significant number of human bones were scattered throughout. The nest itself appeared to be constructed from the remnants of ships.

I gathered the treasure, eggs, and human remains, placing them into Storage before returning to our ship. I intended to give the human bones a proper burial at sea later.

"That was...a big... bird,"

Even though the ship was quite distant, it seemed the Sky Lord was still visible from this point. Fortunately, the island was not visible, making it impossible for anyone to realise the enormous size of the bird.

"Yeah, I guess it was called a 'roc,'"

<0>

"Is that our destination? I inquire,"

"That's right,"

Nana at the helm drew the attention of the other children as they gathered to follow Nana's pointing finger. A charming island adorned with sub-tropical features emerged before their eyes, complete with a charming inlet and a petite mountain enveloped in lush greenery.

"I wonder if that's Lalakie, then?" Arisa asked Rei in a light tone.

"...I don't... know,"

"You don't need to try to force yourself to remember. This place just happens to be near the Sealtower Islands, so we don't know if it's part of Lalakie or not,"

Satou reassured Rei as she dropped her head in sadness as he assumed control of the steering from Nana, guiding the ship into the bay.

"Swirlyyy?"

"So whirly, sir,"

Tama and Pochi were excited as they stood at the lookout post. From their vantage point, they could see that the island was entirely encircled by a swirling, turbulent current, almost like a natural barrier against any oncoming ships. They also noticed treacherous coral formations lurking beneath the water's surface, adding to the island's formidable defences.

"An island protected by a whirlpool... Do you think Poseidon's going to show up?"

From what I remember, the Greeks worshipped Poseidon as the deity of the ocean. But judging from Arisa's preferences, I suspect this is a nod to an anime or manga, as our vessel effortlessly navigated through the whirlpool and into the bay.

"Sea turrrtle?"

"It looks delicious, sir!"

The waters were incredibly transparent, allowing a clear view of the leisurely-moving sea turtle with its vibrant ultramarine shell. In an attempt to catch it, Liza aimed a harpoon, but unfortunately, the turtle managed to elude her.

"It's so peaceful,"

"Yes, it seems that way,"

No signs of life greeted us as our ship dropped anchor near the shore. The island appeared to be eerily silent as if it held its secrets tightly guarded.

"What a beautiful beach,"

Staring in wonder, Lulu was mesmerised by the near-paradise island, releasing an awestruck sigh.

"I imagine there are plenty of shrimp and shellfish here,"

"I hope to find more tropical fruits, I propose,"

"There should be plenty of prey in the trees,"

Food appeared to be the main focus for Liza, Nana, and Pearl. The island was filled with lush palm trees, heavy with ripe coconuts. However, it was clear that other fruit trees dotted the landscape, such as bananas and mangoes. For now, we could simply bask in the tranquillity of our vacation until something unusual occurred.

"First, we should find a safe place to set up camp,"

After arriving on shore via a small rowboat, we carefully selected a spot on the beach away from the tides to set up our camp. Using a waterproof sheet as a base, I placed a magical tool on top. I infused it with my powers, causing a tent to magically appear before us with a satisfying 'pop'. This spacious shelter provided enough room for us to comfortably stand inside.

Satou crafted this on his own at the elf village, utilising their woven fabrics imbued with magic. These textiles were incredibly able to expand and contract, similar to a shape memory alloy, making them ideal materials for his creation.

"All right, everyone, time to change!"

"Aye-aye, sirrr!"

"Roger, sir!"

Arisa, Tama and Pochi assumed a theatrical stance before they dashed into the tent, with the rest of the group trailing closely behind. I observed as Nana attempted to pull Satou inside as well. Still, I intervened as it would defeat the purpose of erecting the tent. She needs to learn some common sense before getting into serious trouble.

It didn't take long for us to change. Tama was wearing a peach-pink two-piece swimsuit, while Pochi wore a similar getup in yellow. Arisa was wearing a classic old-fashioned school swimsuit. Mia wore a white-and-aqua-striped bikini as I tied her hair up in buns. Nana was wearing a plain one-piece suit. A black-and-white one-piece for Lulu. Pearl was wearing a navy blue bikini, Liza a crimson two-piece with a rose-patterned decoration over her chest. Finally, I was wearing a black bikini. We were the only ones who didn't change our suits.

"How do I look...Satou?"

Rei was borrowing one of Arisa's spare swim- suits, a bikini that matched the design of Mia's. While Sara had decided to try the bikini this time. Despite her blushing, the white bikini with stringless shoulders was quite the sight.

"You're not wearing it, master,"

Arisa sighed, seeing Satou wearing swimming trunks instead of that speedo-like suit she keeps insisting he wears.

"Why don't you all go for a swim while I prepare a barbecue?"

"Awww, c'mon, swim with us!"

"Master, if you're preparing food, I'll help you,"

Despite the opportunity to have fun, Lulu's priority was helping Satou. In light of this, Satou decided to join us for a swim.

<0>

"I will win, I declare,"

Leaping high into the air, Nana smacks the ball Satou made back down towards the sand. Satou had even made a net, allowing us to play a volleyball game. Satou should have easily been able to defend against the strike, but he just stood there as the ball hit the sand right beside him.

"Letting her play was a mistake,"

Arisa grumbled as her eyes were locked on Nana's swaying chest. Arisa quickly smacked Satou out of his trance and picked up the ball handing him the ball.

"Are you feeling okay, master? This is the twelfth time you let the ball go by you,"

Lulu asked Satou, but he assured her he was fine. Satou is just being distracted by his perverted thoughts.

"Take this,"

Sara cutely returned the ball, but thanks to her swaying like Nana, Satou once again let the ball hit the sand, earning Arisa's wrath.

"Focus, you boob-obsessed pervert,"

The teams were me, Pearl, Nana, Sara, Tama and Mia, versus Satou, Arisa, Pochi, Lulu, Liza and Rei. It should have been an even match, but thanks to Satou's perverted eyes and weakness for large chests, it was becoming a one-sided slaughter. By the time the match ended, my team had twenty-three points, while Liza scored three points for Satou's team.

Sara and Nana were the only ones to score a point on our team. The rest of us didn't have enough of the jiggle to distract Satou like those, too. Someday. Looking down, I wonder if I will ever grow. I'm sure I will. Then I can distract Satou… no, I shouldn't think things like that.

Once the match was over, we split watermelons or Liza and Pearl did. We only had two, and those ladies split both in seconds. While Liza did, Pearl caused her watermelon to explode when she hit it, causing us all to need to wash up in the ocean. We ended the day by collecting sea shells while Satou, Sara and Lulu prepared dinner, and Liza and Pearl tried to catch some prey. But the biggest event came once the sun had set after we ate dinner.

"Firewooorks?"

"Pop-pop, sir!"

"Keep up, you two,"

Sara smiled as she, Tama and Pochi spun gleefully on the sandy shore, illuminated by the warm glow of the nearby campfire. They held a short staff imbued with the enchanting Fireworks Illusion spell in each of their hands. These intricate staffs had been crafted by the skilled high elf of the Beliunan clan, after Satou had shared with her his creation of the Fireworks Illusion spell. Despite claiming she lacked skill in creating light-based magical tools, she managed to produce them in a remarkably short period.

"Larva, it is used like this, I instruct,"

"It's... very... pretty,"

Nana was instructing Rei in the usage of the Fireworks Illusion short staff.

"They really pull you in, don't they?"

"Yes, they are truly impressive to behold,"

"There is something about them that draws the eye,"

The prototype sparklers I had crafted captivated Pearl, Lulu and Liza. These were created with standard gunpowder.

"Campfires are pretty romantic, huh?"

"You think so? Didn't you ever have one at a school event?"

Arisa had asked for a special 'Oklahoma Mixer' dance to be performed. She danced alongside Satou to the music being played by Mia.

"Larva?"

I instinctively shifted my gaze towards Rei when I heard Nana's disoriented voice. The flame in her eyes had vanished, and she was fixated on the flickering flames of the campfire with a lifeless stare.

"Fire…" she murmured.

"Mew!"

"Something's coming, sir!"

Tama and Pochi let their short staffs fall to the ground and crouched on all fours, their expressions filled with alarm. Suddenly, the earth trembled beneath us. Simultaneously, flocks of birds flew away from every corner of the island and the sounds of animals howling filled the air.

"An earthquake?"

"I don't think there are any underwater volcanoes or anything around here. Let's check the other islands, then,"

Three of them looked normal, but one was giving off a red glow in the distance.

"Is it an evil omen of some sort?" I heard Liza murmur.

"No, don't worry," Satou lightly reassured her.

The majority of our group was quivering and grasping onto Satou and me in fear. Earthquakes were a rare occurrence in this world, so even a mild magnitude three could easily terrify them. We spent the rest of the night calming them down.

<0>

"Yikes, this staircase is looong!"

Arisa peered down the spiral staircase, its descent so deep that even light failed to reach the bottom. Rei found this place last night. She was lucky Satou managed to notice her, or we may never have found her.

"Create Wisp Makoudama Souzou,"

Mia's Spirit Magic conjured a luminous orb, casting a brilliant glow that stretched approximately thirty feet ahead. We enlisted Nana's Foundation ability of Mana Light to guide our path, allowing her to take charge of our journey. Lulu stood at the centre of the group, clutching a lantern that emitted the familiar glow of Mana Light magic. It had been bestowed upon us as a parting present from Inenimaana, the skilled apprentice of the local witch we encountered in Kuhanou County.

"Ugh, it's waaay too long...," Arisa grumbled, sounding bored now.

As the journey continued, it wasn't long before the rearguard and Rei grew weary and could no longer continue on foot. Fortunately, Satou had a Floating Board in Storage that we could use, and they quickly hopped on to follow us. Lulu and Mia, however, seemed to have plenty of energy still, but we decided to have them ride on the board as well. After all, it could easily accommodate up to four people and would help us move faster.

"Not looong?"

"I heard the rock before I got to two, so we're almost there, sir,"

The duo monitored our advancement by releasing tiny pebbles from Tama's pocket and listening for their impact at the base of the winding stairs. Though I questioned their comprehension of concepts like gravitational acceleration, they demonstrated a basic understanding of our progress.

"Mm. Hall,"

Mia's wisp glided ahead, casting a soft glow over the hall at the base of the staircase. The space was sparsely furnished, with a lone door at the end. Without hesitation, Tama and Pochi raced towards the exit.

"Doooor?"

"Can we open it, sir?"

As they reached the double doors, their gaze shifted back to Satou.

"Go ahead,"

Upon receiving Satou's approval, Tama and Pochi eagerly swung open the doors with their combined force. A bright glow emerged from the other side.

"Wooow?"

"Amazingly amazing, sir!"

Rushing into the adjoining room, Tama and Pochi urgently motioned for us to follow. Intrigued, I ventured through the doorway and into the expansive area, where I was met with a surprising and unforeseen scene.

"Master, the ocean is above us!"

"Hero Kura, I can see the sun through the ocean, I report,"

Liza and Nana, typically reserved and sensible, were now wearing expressions of astonishment on their faces. The ocean was our only visible ceiling, without any discernible barrier separating us. The most likely explanation was either a transparent resin or some kind of enchantment from Foundation Magic, giving the Illusion of an endless expanse. Beyond this simulated surface, vibrant sea creatures glided gracefully, reminiscent of a living aquarium display. The expanse was immeasurable, making it impossible to glimpse the opposite end.

"It's beautiful..."

"It is beautiful! It's so very, very pretty. It's as pretty as watching spirits dance; it really is!"

"But doesn't it seem as if the ceiling could collapse? It's a little unnerving,"

"Grrr, it's like an aquarium where stupid normie couples would go on their stupid dates..."

Lulu couldn't help but release an admiring sigh. Mia gave a rare and passionate rant. Meanwhile, Liza's concerned gaze turned upwards. But for Arisa... it's better to leave her alone.

"Ultra-effective magic-enclosing barrier, a miracle from a god. A device to protect Lalakie from the cold winds and air pressure of high altitudes. Only the floating ships of Lalakie can pass through it,"

While in a trance, Rei detailed the mechanisms of the ceiling.

"Is the tower over there the central control room?"

"Sky Tower. A sacred place where the queen communicates with the gods. The imperial palace of the queen and the royal family,"

Arisa and Rei gazed upon a massive tower in the heart of the residential district. Its structure was crafted from orichalcum, emitting a golden glimmer under the sunlight.

As we wandered through the spacious chamber, we came across a grill-patterned floor that emitted a gentle breeze. The mischievous wind playfully lifted the hems of Lulu and Mia's skirts, briefly revealing a peek of white and stripes as the ground shook again.

"...wind,"

"Another shake... This one was pretty weak. Magnitude two, maybe?"

"Yes, around that,"

This time, the tremors were less prominent, causing the rest of the group to be less frightened than they were previously. Lulu and Liza pulled on Satou's sleeves while Pochi and Tama girls held onto his hands. While Mia and Sara clung to me. Satou soon reported that a second Sealtower had been activated.

"Hero Kura, there are people, I report,"

A sheer drop-off loomed at the distant edge of the vast expanse, providing a striking view of the lively Lalakie cityscape. Nana gestured in the direction, and I noticed a significant gathering of humanoid silhouettes. However, there was more to the scene than met the eye...

"Something seems off, no?"

The individuals were partially see-through, and they were exclusively young adults. There were no children, seniors, or even middle-aged individuals present.

"The Happy Ones of Lalakie-people who have cast aside their needless physical forms to live in happiness forevermore as souls. They are reborn as half-ghosts in the Purifying Mausoleum, and when their physical bodies decay, they cast aside even their spirit bodies to take pure soul form,"

Rei went into a trance, revealing that a half-ghost was not the offspring of a human and a ghost but rather a being that existed in a state between human and ghost.

"Huh... It's better than being turned into a bolt in some distant galaxy, I guess, but is being a disembodied soul really any fun?"

"They no longer feel anything but happiness. The human heart is frail. Without a physical body, one's memories fade, and without a spirit body, even one's emotions fade as well. They have become mere vestiges of the past. If the backups stored in the Lalakie central control core should cease, they will simply disappear,"

Rei's tears cascaded down her expressionless face. With handkerchiefs in hand, Nana and Mia gently wiped away the tears from Rei's face. We took a moment to silently pray for the transparent figures before bidding them farewell and moving on.

As we journeyed through the Purifying Mausoleum, a striking resemblance to the elves' slumber tanks caught our eye. However, unlike the peaceful and healthy appearance of the sleeping elves, the individuals encased in glass cylinders within the mausoleum were shrivelled and mummified in appearance.

As we journeyed towards the central control room, several passageways had been flooded by damaged water pipes. However, we could effortlessly traverse through them by utilising our Water Breathing and Resist Water Pressure spells.

"…Water,"

In a moment, the third Sealtower Island was unlocked with surprising speed. The subsequent earthquake seemed to have caused an opening, leading to a rapid current. To ensure everyone's safety, Satou and I employed Magic Hand to keep us secure until we arrived at our intended location.

"Scaryyyy?"

"I thought I would be washed away, sir,"

Before rushing to the control room, we used the Practical Magic spell Dry to salvage our drenched clothes. Our ultimate goal was to revive Rei's memories before the last seal was released. So we kept walking as the spell effects took hold.

The vast hallway to the central control room was adorned with tall, obsidian pillars on either side. Its size was so immense a giant could easily stroll through it. Adorning the pillars were murals, adding a touch of artistic grandeur to the already impressive space. The only way to enter the central control room was through massive double doors.

"Whoa, these are some pretty grim light-versus-darkness murals,"

Fifty percent of the murals depicted Lalakie's domination over the world, as they thrived while the land-dwelling population suffered.

"Looks like the land people didn't take it lying down, though,"

As one progressed down the hallway, the murals gradually depicted a war against the rebels, ultimately culminating in the destruction of the world by the fearsome Dogheaded Demon Lord.

"...What's this?"

Satou was immediately captivated by one particular mural, causing him to halt in his tracks without even realising it.

"What is the matter, master?"

"Some girls and some octopuses?"

Arisa's explanation of the mural seemed too simplistic. It depicted sacrifices being hurled off a cliff into an ocean, where they were met by sinister octopus creatures.

"The sacrificial maidens. In order to turn the tides of the battle, which had become unfavourable, young women with the rune of domination engraved into their bodies were offered to the sea lord's spawn," Listening to Rei's explanation, I vaguely recalled that Rei also held the title of Sacrificial Maiden. I couldn't help but wonder if the scenes depicted in this image were connected to her past. "The sacrificial maidens were usually twins or sisters. Once a spawn had been captured with the first maiden's rune of domination, it could be controlled with the rune of operation carved into the other maiden's body."

Upon careful observation of the mural, I noticed that the depiction of the girls showed them shackled in chains and thrown about as if they were mere pieces of bait for fishing. Although aware of the various extreme measures employed by nations on the brink of defeat, simply viewing the image ignited a furious fire within my chest.

The following picture shows how the controlled spawn triggered massive tidal waves, resulting in the obliteration of the opposing forces' vessels and ports.

"With the controlled spawn, they were able to turn the war back in their favour, but all was lost when Doghead's four warlords entered the battle. The attempt to control the Sea Lord itself failed, the queen's younger sister lost her life, and the queen herself had her soul rent away and entered eternal slumber in the Coffin,"

In the following pictures, an island, likely Lalakie, was depicted being pulled into the ocean by the Sea Lord, a creature of comparable size. While it was most likely an embellishment, the thought of battling a colossal octopus the size of an entire island was not exactly appealing to me. The last six pictures captured the sealing of the Flame and Ground Lords, marking the downfall of Doghead's rule.

"What's this giant cone-shaped creature? A faceless ghost?"

"The gods' apostles overwhelmed the Sky Lord, sealed the Flame Lord with the Blazeshine Sword, and confined the Ground Lord to the labyrinth,"

It seemed as though Rei conveyed that the 'apostles' easily defeated Doghead's kin. Still, the illustrations revealed a different story: a lone lord encircled by a group of twelve or more apostles. This portion was most likely depicted after Lalakie's submersion into the ocean.

"What about the seven pillars of light surrounding a wolf and a person here?"

"The forms the gods took when they descended to seal Doghead. One of the gods took human form to defeat Doghead,"

Did the Dark God join the battle? I was sceptical that the malevolent deity who brought forth the demon lord would join forces to defeat him, leading me to consider the possibility that the dragon god might intervene instead. After the dragon god imparted the knowledge of Hero Summoning magic onto the goddess Parion, their relationship appeared good. Moreover, due to the dragons' affinity for battle, the dragon god would likely have appeared, regardless of the circumstances, for a chance to engage in combat.

"We have been waiting for you, Queen Reiaane,"

Upon arriving at the central control room, a luminous orb above the door emitted a warm glow. Immediately, the central control core's voice resonated from within, addressing us.

"Hero Kura! The larva has disappeared, I report,"

"What's going on?" I shouted at the control core.

As the shutters slowly creaked open, a ray of light pierced through the darkness, casting a bright spotlight on one corner of the room. And there, in the centre of a crimson magic circle, was Rei, suspended in mid-air.

"Security scan complete. Evidence of tampering is located within Queen Reiaane's memory storage. Recommending restoration from backup,"

"...I don't want to...forget,"

"Only altered memories will be targeted. No other memories will be changed,"

"Then please...do it,"

"Understood. Initiating restoration,"

Rei was surrounded by layers of gear-shaped magic circles that materialised out of thin air. The same luminous scan repeated itself, lasting approximately thirty minutes.

"Restoration complete. Are you well, Queen Reiaane?"

"Thank you. My memories are still somewhat cloudy, but most of them have come back to me," In her trance-like state, Rei's voice remained consistent with her typical tone. Despite her youthful appearance, she exuded a sense of calm and composure that was not always present. "Satou, Kura, I remember now. I am…"

Just as Rei began speaking, a massive tremor rudely cut her off.

"Aaaaah!"

Lulu's shriek reverberated the loudest, causing a slight stir in me as a magnitude five-class earthquake shook the ground. Though I knew Satou's presence would keep us all safe, the thought of the ceiling and floor collapsing still instilled fear. Some things are just inherently daunting, regardless of any logical reassurance.

"Queen Reiaane, a report. The Queen's Tower has declared a state of emergency. Until the declaration is revoked, the central control core will enter slave device mode, prioritising commands from the Queen's Tower. If you did not request this declaration, please suspend it using the control terminal in the Queen's Tower,"

After making an announcement, the central control core fell silent.

"M… master, something's wrong! This doesn't feel like an earthquake!"

Arisa's intuition was spot on. The trembling sensation was reminiscent of being inside a massive ship's engine room but on a much more intense level, rather than the typical jolts of an earthquake. From my vantage point, it was difficult to discern what was happening. Satou and I decided to use Return and teleport everyone to the seal slate Satou had previously positioned in the expansive viewing area in Lalakie to get a better view.

"Master, look at the ceiling,"

"Is the ocean...moving?"

I looked up.

"Skyyy?"

"The sun is bright, sir,"

"Lalakie is surfacing? B-but...that would mean that Father has released the Sea Lord after Mother sacrificed her life to seal it..."

Rei's eyes widened in terror as Lalakie emerged from the depths of the ocean's surface.

"Kura,"

"Hero Kura,"

As I followed the gazes of Mia and Nana, my eyes landed on a gear-shaped magic circle that was expanding in front of us. As the circle reached its full size, a figure emerged from it. It was none other than Yuuneia.

"I've come for you, Sister!"

Yuuneia stood before Rei in a traditional shrine maiden costume, daring her with a smirk. It resembled the ceremonial attire worn by Sara in the old capital but with a bolder and more dazzling flair rather than an air of modest sanctity.

"You are...Yuuneia...correct?"

"That's right! You finally remembered me, Sister!" Without regard for Rei's unusual condition, Yuuneia promptly nodded. "Let us go, Sister. Father is waiting for us!"

Rei's expression suddenly turned sorrowful as she looked at Yuuneia, radiating an overwhelming feeling of sadness and perhaps even pity.

"I'm...going with her," Ignoring Yuuneia's inquiry, Rei faced us and spoke in the Shigan language. "I will bring an end to Father's delusions...prevent the world from falling into chaos...and protect the gravestone of those sad lost lives of Lalakie."

"Is that what you want?"

"Yes... If everything is to be saved, then I must go,"

Rei gave a faint smile, the expression of a martyr.

"Larva! I will go with you, I declare!"

The rest of the group all clamoured forward in agreement.

"Nana... Thank you for all you've done. The rest of you, too... Thank you for being kind to me when even I did not know who I was," Rei firmly shook her head, determined to prevent Nana and the others from joining her. "Let us go, Sister."

Yuuneia took Rei's hand.

"Rei, wait! If you want to save everything, shouldn't that include yourself?!"

Rei's only response to my last inquiry was a sorrowful grin before she vanished into the Spirit World with her sister. Satou said the two of them then reappeared at the top floor of the Queen's Tower, alongside the Skeleton King's.

"Evacuation orders received. Initialising..."

I already knew what would happen. Acting fast, I take out two potions as magic circles appear at all our feet. I drink a sleeping potion and keep a vail of the antidote in my hand. Less than a second later, I was out like a light, only to wake up as the antidote from the now smashed vail seeped into the healing cuts on my hand.

Right after that, we were all teleported back to the beach. But now, the bay was little more than a puddle. The island seamlessly merged into the ridge's highest point that encircled Lalakie's urban area. It was as if this spot marked the city's westernmost edge. From my vantage point on the mountain, I could spot the shimmering dome of Heavenslight Protection on the opposite side.

"Master!" Arisa's lightly punched Satou in the stomach. "That's when you're supposed to embrace Rei and stop her from leaving!"

"Mm. Duh,"

"Master..."

Mia and Nana agreed with Arisa, but Satou shook his head.

"I didn't go with her because there was something else I had to do first,"

"What could possibly be more important than saving Rei?!"

"Tidal waves," Satou pointed to the giant waves heading away from the island. "I'll take care of it quickly and then go save Rei, so all of you board the ship and get away from Lalakie."

Satou retrieved the flying ship from Storage and assembled the core parts of the figurehead golem, which were found in the large Fairy Pack that Lulu was carrying. He placed the figurehead on the helm to complete the setup.

"Mrrr. We'll save her,"

"Hero Kura, I wish to join the larva's rescue party, I request,"

Mia and Nana puffed furiously, insisting they would go save Rei.

"Let's gooo?"

"Pochi wants to help, too, sir,"

"Master, I, too, request your permission,"

"I want to help her, too,"

"I want to save Rei too,"

"We can't leave her with her father,"

Sara and Lulu, the beastfolk girls, shared a common sentiment. Judging from the thumbs-up from Arisa, it was likely that she shared the same feelings as well.

"Arisa, the ship's defences are perfect, but try to avoid battle if you can,"

"I know that, duuuh! We'll just buy some time for you!"

"All I need is ninety seconds. I'll be back after that,"

"Okey-dokey!"

With that, Satou took off from the deck.

"I'll meet you all inside,"

I quickly teleported away before anyone could question me, and so they wouldn't see what I was about to do. It has been a long time since I used this patically Unique Skill, but I should be able to get close to Rei if I use it now.

I take out a knife and close my eyes. Taking a deep breath, I plunge the blade into my heart. When I open my eyes again, I find myself back in the viewing area in Lalakie, only this time, the room is filled with undead monsters.

"Hey, where did you run off to!" Arisa's voice blasts my ears when her communication spell connects with me. "People are starting to get worried by your sudden disappearance!"

"I'm fine," I assure her. "Tell everyone I am fine. I just used a Unique Skill to get inside the city and will meet up with you at the Queen's Tower."

"You're not doing anything reckless, are you?"

"I can't deny that, but I won't put myself in too much danger,"

"Just make sure you are still alive when we rejoin you," Arisa sighs. "It looks like some people here want to have a word with you about your disappearing act."

And I'm in trouble. Well, it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission, and if it means we save Rei, I will gladly accept any punishment that comes my way. But for now. I summon my wolf spirit.

"I want you to find someone called Rei and lead me down the shortest route to her," The wolf spirit barks, drawing the undead's attention. Maybe I should have told him to be quiet? All that's done is done. I summon my bear spirit as a backup. "Take care of the undead."

With a mighty roar, the bear spirit charges into the mass of the undead heading our way. It was more brutal than I thought, and I felt a little sorry for my foes. Still, my spirit was excellently keeping the enemy occupied.

I suppose I should get moving, too. It won't be long before Satou and the others reach the Queen's Tower, so I can't stand here watching the carnage all day. My wolf spirit takes off at my command, and I follow right behind it, taking out any undead creature foolish enough to get in my way. Just wait a little bit longer, Rei. We are coming for you.
