The Mafia Of This Realm

The Valkyrie, Angry Man and Galaxian Mage had eyes fixated on me, even stopping their dinner.

"Do pray to tell. I'm curious to hear your explanation, Lizzie," encouraged Mavislin, giving me the spotlight.

"The Iron Canine is helping Vincent out by making weaponry. If I'm not mistaken, the two men have a brief history. Not enough to label them as best friends like you lot but enough to be business partners," I answered, hopefully trying to seem natural.

Baldwin widened his eyes as the whole table fell silent. Was it something I said? Even the kids stopped talking, and baby Kai halted his escapade of painting his chair with his dinner to look at me.

"That was something that completely slipped our minds. If the Major Mission of the Dollhouse pans out properly, we might cause havoc for the Mafia when we defeat or kill the Iron Canine. I'd imagine they will wage war against us," said Baldwin, remaining calm.

Oh no... I hadn't thought of that fact... And they did mention that the Mafia has been around longer than most of the current running organizations. So on top of everything else, the people in the Five Domains needed the majority of the Mafia to function to balance their lives.

Mafia doesn't always spell trouble like having the Iron Canine in your Domain. Upon reading further about the group and recalling Bryan's explanation, the Mafia in this world isn't necessarily evil like how modern culture describes them to be. It's the opposite.

Like in my previous world in Japan, there were multiple cases of the Yakuza, the country's version of the Mafia, sending aid to the common folk in the disasters ground zero areas. They were more efficient than the official help since their strength, production, and communication were superior.

In this realm, the Mafia was created to help the poor or abandoned to fight against the nobility and wealthy for fairness in society. Greedy landlords are either forced to lower absurd prices on the rent or lower themselves into an early grave. Sometimes, the Mafia are seen as 'good' in these times.

But back to Vincent and the Iron Canine... I am now worried if I were to take down Conchorbar, I might have the entire Mafia on my tail.

"Bryan, you are going to switch targets with me. I understand that I did say that the Black Knight would be a better candidate for me, but I have to swap with you in a situation like this. Are you fine with that?" I asked, changing my mind about the Mission plan.

The Slayer nodded, and each group resumed their conversations and dinner.

"What are you planning to do when you meet that Iron Canine? Using a metal sword won't be very effective against a Metal Mage, especially against someone as rapid as that Mad Dog," asked the Angry Man, eyes piercing into my soul.

"Not all weapons have to be metal. I'm well-versed in more combat techniques than you might assume. And the fact that I am considered a master swordsman enough to be the rank of Glorybringer, I don't think I need to rely on only a metal sword."

"There are other materials to create deadly weaponry," I explained, casually finishing my plate.

Suddenly, I heard a screech of a chair being forced backward and gazed up to see Baldwin standing up and looking at me in disbelief. His posture looked like he would drag me by the collar and throw me to the next dimension. Either that or the Angry Man was going to flip the table.

Mavislin instantly extended a wing to shield me from Baldwin, who managed to calm himself down after a few seconds. The children looked scared as Rina quickly took Kai away from the dinner table to prevent the baby from seeing a disaster, though the baby looked like he was in a food hurricane.

"I'm not going to hurt you, Elizabeth. But why did you not tell us of such an important thing? Are you a Glorybringer? Then why did you join Mavislin's Ark when you were better fitted to be in mine? Mav?" yelled Baldwin, unleashing a tsunami's worth of questions upon my head.

"I have no clue about such a thing, so don't rope me into the conversation. I'm just here to protect my underling. Besides, you refused to answer that day's security call when Lizzie first touched down to the Forest of the Old Chapel," said Mavislin, still having her wing out.

"To be clear, I refused not because it was a pain but because I was busy. Anyways, Elizabeth, was it possible that you didn't know about the Class Tree of the Knights of Dawn? That's why you didn't join my Ark instead?" questioned Baldwin, trying to look behind the giant wing.
