Too Young To Be King

"You want to fly, but you don't know how. Mordred wanted to rule a kingdom when she didn't understand the risks of doing so. If you do not know how to lead a kingdom and become King, do you know that so many will suffer under your kingship?"

The kids looked at each other as Mavislin sighed, knowing that the children were much too young to understand. Little Jenny tugged on the Valkyrie's sleeve.

"Big brother Raiyen told us you were a princess? And if you were King of Camelot, would you have chosen Mordred to lead the Domain?" asked the child.

That Time Mage... I ought to shove a sock into his big mouth someday, thought Mavislin as she smiled with an eye twitching.

"I'm not a princess... I was set to be the Empress of the Universe's most powerful beings; the Valkyries of Valokia. Think of that title as the 'King of the world.' So it's a big gap from a princess to Empress. And I wouldn't have chosen Mordred as an heir at the time because she was too young."

"It's the same as asking you to be the leader of the Arks when you haven't understood how to teach others. Right now, all of you are little kids who should go and see the world. Because once you've reached the ranks, you won't have time to be a kid anymore."

"I just wished Mordred would have understood... " answered Mavislin as she placed Jenny on the ground.

The Valkyrie had a point; the Knight of Rebellion was always jealous of the human children who had a normal upbringing by aging slowly. Only after seeing the present-day children running about and having fun does Mordred realize her mistake of being a Knight of the Round Table.

Mordred had every chance to turn her tail and run away from the grasp of her evil mother, but she was too mesmerized by following the King's footsteps that she lost track of her will and wishes. Essentially, Mordred had lost sight of her true self. That's why Mordred was feeling rage now.

"I wished I could have been with her to the end... She must've been so alone, dying on that hill... And sometimes, I wished I wouldn't have given her that blade or that suggestion to overthrow the King."

"But, I learned that supporting your friends might not always be the best option," said the Valkyrie.

The children tilted their heads in confusion.

"I gave Mordred the Brilliant Ornate Sword that was supposed to be given to the King. Meant to be a sword that holds peace, I was tasked to forge it so that it could grant the user more strength in their punches and kicks by mixing it with some of my Valokian Authority of an Empress."

"In simpler terms, the sword makes the person stronger. It was called Clarent, and after hearing Mordred's complaints about the King, I gave the blade to her. I thought she would have used it to settle scores with the King, but I didn't expect to bring Camelot to ruins."

"A minor duel was enough to determine Mordred's worth to the throne... Instead, Mordred incited a rebellion and made people fight each other. I have no clue what Mordred said to the King, but when I got back, everything was gone. Ever since then, I had a hard time supporting others..."

"But, in a way, I understood where Mordred was coming from. That's why I allowed my friendship to cloud my judgment. Camelot wouldn't have fallen if I hadn't taken Mordred's side without considering the results," explained the Valkyrie as she recalled the past.

"But... Fwends are good. So we are all fwends, and Big brother Z said we must stick together, right?" asked Jenny as she blinked at the Valkyrie.

Mavislin widened her eyes with shock as she waved her hands about.

"Of course! You are all friends and young, so you must stick together so big people can't hurt you. But I wouldn't call you kids 'friends'... Because you are a family," replied the smiling Valkyrie as she patted Jenny's head.

The children smiled as Mavislin continued her story.

"Mordred was content at being the King's shadow until her mother, the King's evil sister, told Mordred that she was the true heir of King Arthur. But the King refused to see Mordred as his child and couldn't give the throne to her. But I think there was more than that..."

"I knew Mordred for quite some time, and it didn't make sense for her to hate the King so suddenly. It was like looking at a fish swimming in the skies... If my prediction was right, I don't think anyone hated each other... It was just a huge misunderstanding," stated Mavislin.
