Chapter 47: Dragon's Treasure

Adeline

Adeline balanced the egg and pushed her pocket knife to the shell. Even though her blade was only five inches, it sure got the dragon's attention. Not the best solution, but at the lack of a better one, her plan would have to do. Too late to head out now and track down treasure and cattle to appease the greedy creature. Before she returned, the creature would be picking her teeth with Jack's bones.

"Let him go, and you can have your offspring back." Despite her heart wedged in her throat, her voice didn't waver.

Jack inched to the only exit, his gaze gliding between the creature and Adeline. Did he expect her to drop the egg and run? They'd never make it to the cliff's edge.

"Give me it now!" it screamed. "It's mine! I will hunt you and your family until your line is wiped from this planet if you hurt my baby."
