Mysterious twins

After a week of nonstop brainstorming and planning, all of us found a strategy which worked well to capture the palace

Kaz was stationed on the frontlines, watching over everything that happened around the castle and the surrounding area.

We divided into two groups. Me, Charlotte and Kaz against Kasei and Cole.

Charlotte and Kaz teamed up with me and Kasei while the others fought off the guards, trying to keep the castle secure.

In other words, we were the distraction.

My task was simple: find the king.

I didn't know anything about him except his name, birthdate and a bit about his power, which wasn' even that important to me because I knew his powers would eventually lead me to him.

All I needed was information on how to break free, what I could do with it, and a chance to prove myself to him.

That was easy enough because if he could see through my lies and tricks, then I knew I wouldn' stand a chance.

But before I got the chance, I need to get past his personal army of guards.

With that being said, I entered one of the towers without alerting anyone.

"What are you doing?" Charlotte whispered as she noticed me walking towards the stairs leading to the floor where all the royal rooms are located.

"I need to sneak past his men. Once I do, we can get in and take down all those annoying guards while you distract them."

"I doubt you could do it by yourself. I can give you directions on where his office is."

"No thanks, I'll handle it." I replied quickly.

"Don't go wandering around aimlessly, okay? You might lose your target or you might fall victim to another trap, which would ruin everything! Your enemies may kill you first so watch out!" Charlotte warned me sternly.

Before I could answer, Charlotte walked away without saying goodbye.

"Dammit! I knew it! Stupid Charlotte always thinks the worst of everyone. I can't believe she'd sacrifice her own life for someone else."

I gritted my teeth in frustration. 'Why does Charlotte always feel guilty every time something happens to me? This is the fourth time in less than two years!' I wondered angrily.

I sighed heavily and decided to leave Charlotte to deal with everything on her own for now.

I walked down the long halls looking for some sort of exit.

I spotted a door that looked locked. I tried opening the knob but failed.

This door must lead outside somehow. Maybe it leads to a secret passage? Or a secret room? I never explored that much of the castle in search of the King.

'Maybe we can check it out later.' I thought.

The sound of footsteps echoed in the hall. I froze in fear when I heard heavy breathing behind me.

'Who could be sneaking around here?'

I thought nervously.

Taking a deep breath, I slowly turn to face whoever was approaching me. When I turn I see no one.

Relieved, I decide to walk away from the creepy door.

After a few minutes I saw the entrance to the garden near the main entrance of the castle. Looking around to make sure no one was following me, I open the door carefully and step out to freedom.

There is a nice breeze blowing around, making my hair sway softly. The air was still humid due to the constant heat. There was a pond on one side.

The garden itself was beautiful. Flowers bloomed everywhere. Green plants that grew from bushes covered the ground giving it an overall peaceful environment.

I walked slowly around, not really paying attention to anything around me. Every once in awhile, I would stop and admire the flowers, plants and bushes with pure fascination.

Suddenly, I stopped and heard rustling noises from beside me. Turning around slowly, I came face to face with two people who appeared completely different from each other.ne was wearing a white dress with green trimming along the edges. He wore a dark gray mask with holes cut out for his pointed ears and nose.

His hair was pulled in a ponytail, which made his sharp features stand out clearly. His outfit consisted of black boots, black pants and a long sleeve black shirt with a dark purple cape draped over his shoulders, a light gray cloak hanging loosely on his shoulder.

He had his hands clasped behind his back, his stance confident and proud.

The other person was a female dressed in a blue kimono, her attire simple and neat.

Her appearance was a stark contrast to the other man's rugged appearance. Her outfit consisted of a light pink jacket, a grey skirt, with long sleeves, light pink shoes and a light yellow sash hanging around her waist.

Although they seem different from each other, both seemed extremely similar. Their looks matched perfectly. Both were intimidating and dangerous.

Both had a calm gaze that showed nothing, but they did show concern, sadness, anger, fear, pain, hatred and anger at themselves.

Their gazes seemed to pierce mine, leaving trails of ice running across my skin.

They both looked almost identical but one difference that stood out was the lack of a mask. They couldn't possibly be brothers could they? No brother would be so unprofessional as to wear a mask during an infiltration mission.

Even if they weren't related, they were most likely related by blood.

I wanted to back away from them but my feet seemed to lock up.

I couldn't move a muscle.

I could tell something was wrong between them but I didn't know what exactly it was.

Neither spoke, just standing there staring right through me, like a predator watching its prey, silently stalking their next meal.

My heart beat loudly within my chest, pounding in my eardrums. My throat felt dry yet tight. It felt like someone was tightening the noose around my neck; choking me slowly and painfully until I lost consciousness.

My whole body began shaking and trembling. It took all my willpower to not let myself collapse onto the ground.

I felt myself begin sweating profusely from fear.

A single bead formed on my forehead and rolled slowly down my cheek like a tear, dripping off of my face.

I closed my eyes tight as the pressure increased and threatened to pull me under.

Then, I heard a noise. Not the familiar sound of metal clinking against metal but a strange sound. Something like a ticking clock.

A slow rhythmic sound of...clockwork?

It sounded so distant and far away that it sounded like I was hearing it underwater.
