Hours later, Wang Yu woke up outside the dark pit. At first, he thought that all that had happened was a dream, then after seeing his tattered clothes and taking out a teapot which appears and disappears at his will, he became sure that what had happened wasn't a dream.
Remembering what had happened to his group Wang Yu became extremely sad, he even started to cry.
"I should return first, it's dangerous to stay here." By the time Wang Yu woke it was evening and his body was numb, but he gritted his teeth and ran toward the sect as fast as possible.
An hour later Wang Yu could see the sect gates which prompted him to run faster, especially after remembering the hardship he met on his way back.
"Look at that young boy, he looks so tattered, what happened to him and where is his group?" Someone in the crowd shouted after seeing Wang Yu's state. His exclamation turned everyone's attention toward Wang Yu.
If this was normal times Wang Yu would have found it hard to bear everyone's gaze looking at him. But in this state he didn't seem to hear all the noise, he continued to walk before falling.
Right before touching the ground, a big hand caught him lifting him.
"Call a doctor and bring information about this boy." Ordered the man.
"Yes Captain." said the soldiers at the gate before.
The captain then took Wang Yu to the guards' dorms, putting him on a bed before sitting on a chair.
Shortly after, a young man knocked on the door.
"Enter." Soon a young man entered followed by an old man, both of them bowing toward the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man nodded before closing his eyes.
The old man then went toward Wang Yu and put some medicines on his wounds.
"He doesn't have a serious injury, it's only extreme exhaustion, after some rest and good nutrition he'll regain his health." Said the old man before leaving.
After he left another man entered.
"Fortunately he's from the same group as the other young man, we finally can understand what happened."
"Is the other still in a coma?" Said the captain.
"Yes, he's. But the doctor said that he should regain consciousness soon." Answered the man respectfully.
"Look, the young boy is waking up." While talking the captain heard some noise coming from the bed, it was Wang Yu who woke up in a completely strange place again.
"Young boy, it's good that you're awake. Tell me what happened to your group?" Said the captain seriously, looking at him Wang Yu felt goosebumps unable to respond for some time.
"We were hunting near the dark pit when a demon fox suddenly came, all the attacks done by my companions who were already silver-tier fighters didn't even leave a scratch," Said Wang Yu unable to hide his hatred and fear.
"Then how did you survive?" Asked the captain.
"After seeing our futile attacks, Ah Shu and Qu Shi who were so close to it, chose to sacrifice, while we scattered." Wang Yu couldn't stop tears from falling, he hated how he had to run and leave his friends.
Seeing him in this state, the captain. Who usually had a stern face, couldn't but feel sympathy towards this young boy.
"What happened did happen, you can't change it. It's only by living a good life will you pay your friends who sacrificed their lives for you. As for the demon, I assure you that the sect will hunt it down." Said the captain, before leaving the room.
.....
Inside a large hall was the old man who gave Wang Yu and Lu Fu their staff and assigned them the job of a hunter. "Master according to the captain of the guards the predator is a demon who infiltrated the formation."
"Send the information to the sect and let them deal with it, until then no one is allowed to enter the forest." instructed the old man before closing his eyes.
"Yes master, I shall send it immediately."
....
Inside a large hall, a lot of people stood in front of a golden wall, where many missions were currently displayed. The bizarre thing was that all those who came to take missions were cultivators, with most of them being youths, if they were in the mortal world each one would be extremely influential.
"Isn't that an urgent mission." murmured a young girl whose beauty could cause a downfall of a nation. A moment ago she was looking at the missions when a red one came. Usually, those missions have great payment but are also dangerous.
"I will take that mission." Said the young girl to the staff who had been mesmerized by the girl for a moment before handing the mission to her.
She wasn't the only one that saw the mission, but since she wanted to take it no one would dare challenge the sect master's disciple. Yes, she was the young girl that Wang Yu met on the first day in the sect.
...
After the captain and the other guard left, Wang Yu started crying silently. He hated himself for running away, even though he knew deep down that staying was useless.
Half an hour later, Wang Yu put some clothes that were already prepared on the side of his bed. He was going to visit Ah Du who survived according to the guards.
Entering the room of Ah Du, Wang Yu found him already sitting, and beside him stood another guard who had just finished interrogating him, seeing Wang Yu enter the guard left silently, leaving them alone.
Wang Yu walked toward Ah Du's bed before sitting beside him, not knowing what to say he just sat there without uttering a single word.
One incense stick later, Wang Yu heard a faint voice.
"I never thought that I would be the cause for my brother's demise, if not for me having a problem with that bastard nothing would have happened." Ah Du was full of hate for himself, regretting what had happened.
"This is not your fault, it's that damned fox." Said Wang Yu with an angry and hateful look. For the first time in his life that he felt extreme toward something.
Ah Du sighed before taking a big gourd of wine that he had kept initially for emergency in case he got into a conflict with guys from the restaurant.
He then started gulping it. Seeing him in this state Wang Yu wanted to take the gourd from him and reprimand him, but after seeing the look in his eyes he couldn't.
After a moment of thought, he also took the gourd and gulped a mouthful of wine, before returning the gourd to Ah Du. He also was stressed by the event, for him Qu Shi was more than a friend and more like a big sister, as for the others he was saved and helped by them many times.
The two of them continued to drink remembering the happy moments they had with their group. hours later both of them got drunk before sleeping soundlessly .
....
The pain of losing his companions hit him very deeply, he hated himself for being a coward and running for his life.
He and Ah Du were the only survivors of the entire group, and what made him furious was the broken smile he had seen on the face of that guy.
Ah Du also started to behave differently; he would drink all day long and fight for the simplest thing.
One day after coming to visit Ah Du, Wang Yu found the door open, the room really stinks, looking carefully at the walls Wang Yu saw some writing "Sorry for leaving I know that you're as hurt as me but I have decided to be selfish this time, I'm going to the forest I know that this doesn't make sense and I'm throwing my life away, I really can't live here anymore so I'm going to hunt as many beasts as I can, please forgive me."
Wang Yu started to cry after reading the letter, he knew how painful losing the people dear to you. At first he lost his grandfather and now his close friends.
He thought of doing the same many times but unlike Ah Du, he didn't have enough guts to do that.
"Maybe it's better for him." Murmured Wang Yu.
