Ch.5: Hit With Realization.

"School? Do I have to, mom?"

Age 6. He had went to the quirk doctor and registered his quirk. He named it, 'Justice'. The name had came to him in the moment and so he shouted it out. He went to a private quirk doctor by the way, and so not many people know he had multiple quirks.

"Well, yeah, you do. Don't you wanna grow up with your friends?" She flipped through the newspaper while sipping tea. Nolan was lifting the couch she was sitting on while vacuuming under it.

"I guess so. I just don't wanna leave you or Lily alone. But if you're fine with that.."

"Nope. Don't even try it. Me and Lily will be fine. You're at that stage in life where friendship and school is important." She shut down his antics of making her feel bad like that. 'Guess it won't be too bad. Now that I can control my powers a bit more, I can control my height.

Bassically, I can look like a kid again..' As he thought that, Lily had flown through and tackled him, making him drop the coach. "Ow!" His mom spilt the hot tea on herself. "Nolan.." She got up and stared at him while rolling her sleeves back.

"W-What?! It wasn't even my fault!" He back up while holding the giddy Lily. "Well, I can't hit Lily, now can I..?" He gulped as she got closer while taking her belt off. 'D-Damn it, Lily!' As she was about to whoop him, the phone had rung.

"Hm? I guess God is on your side this time. This mess better be cleaned up by the time I get back.." He nodded repeatedly as she walked away and to the phone. She answered it while walking away.

'Saved by the bell..?' He got up and looked at Lily. She was a bit over 2 years old and yet, she could fly. 'Lily has the same powers as me, and grows at a faster rate than me. Like instead of me having to wait one week for a power, she only had to wait 3 days.

But anyways, she won't be more powerful than me for the simple fact that she grows stronger at night under the full moon which only occurs twice a month. Strange, right?' Lily had a small patch of black hair with the same deep blue eyes like Nolan.

'She'll be beautiful too when she gets older. I'll have to make sure that her boyfriend is to my liking..'

Lily playfully grabbed his nose and started twisting it. Or tried too as his nose didn't flinch at all. "Lily, it won't work. Especially with your itty bitty strength.." He held her small finger while kissing her forehead.

"no.."

Lily mumbled. "Huh?! D-Did you just speak? Lily, those were your first words and I heard them! Mom's gonna be so..." Her eyes were turning red. "L-Lily..?"

He let go of her subconsciously, but she caught herself by floating. "Heat Vision? You unlocked it! Good job.." Though he was impressed, it didn't last long as she shot her beams out at him.

Since he was only a few inches away from her, he didn't have much time to think. 'If I dodge, she'll split the house in half. If I take the hit though..' He sighed and pulled her in close to his face. Her beams shot directly into his eyes, resulting in a groan.

'D-Doesn't even hurt. Nope, not one bit. Not...at all...' She increased the force while repeatedly saying 'no!'. Nolan couldn't take her seriously which was the cause of her getting angrier at him. 'Atleast I know I'm durable enough to not die from any of her sneak attacks..'

After 2 minutes, she stopped followed by a burp. Yawning, she carried on to sleep like nothing happened. 'Oh, Lily.. You can apparently fight for yourself, huh? What's my job then?' He carried her over and laid her in a crib.

He then went to go clean up the mess 'he' made then finished cleaning up the entire living room. When he was about finished, his mom had came in with a somewhat worried expression. "Hm? What happened?" She went to the fridge and poured herself some apple juice.

"A submarine belonging to my shareholders had went off radar deep in Pacific waters. We're trying everything to find their location, but nothing so far.." She sighed and sat down on a stool. "O-Oh, that's.."

He didn't say anything further and only came up behind her to massage her shoulders. "I'd hate for those poor people to lose their lives down there. To die in an unfamiliar territory is something nobody wants.." She put her head down on the marble table.

"Damn it.. We should have seen a problem like this! I'm such an idiot!" She yelled at herself while bawling her fist. The glass in her hand had almost exploded from pressure.

"You're no idiot, mom. Accidents happen all the time. Learning from them instead of dwelling on it is what we should do.." She inhaled deeply while nodding. "You're right, Ken. Thanks for this, honey.." She turned around and kissed his forehead.

He became flustered and looked away. "But, not many pro heroes will go out there. Probably none actually. The ocean is deep and mysterious, full of beings that have never been recorded. I'm at a loss.." A thought then flashed in Nolan's mind.

"I'll do it.."

He was immediately slapped and pointed at. "You have lost your God damn mind if you think I'm going to let that comment pass." The slap really didn't hurt, but the emotion behind it did.

"B-But, Mom I could do it. I can save those people. I'm not able to drown and...and..I can see in the dark. I'll be fine.."

While he had a point, she was still resolute. "Son, do you understand your powers? I'll answer that. NO, YOU DON'T! Just last night you were sneezing and blowing holes in the wall. Right now, you powers are ment to be mastered to a certain level before being able to put them to use.

Being able to breath underwater may seem like a passive power, but we don't know that. We thought your bodys toughness was passive, but had to find out the hard way that it wasn't. Its things like that...that make me worry.

It's just too early for you to do something this dangerous. I'm sorry.." She placed her hand on his head before walking away. "I don't want you...to end up like your father. That's all..." Nolan was only left to stare at her back as she walked down the hallway and into her room.

'I guess...she's right...'

His body was suppose to be passively tough, but sometimes, it would soften up for no reason. This was a problem a while back, but Nolan had control over it now.

All he had to do was stay in the sun for a little longer than he usually did and he would go back to normal. Now it's passive again.

He hasn't told his mom of this change yet as there hasn't been a chance to mention it. 'Well, I tried. No point in stressing about it. People die everyday and if they do, just accept it as fate, I guess. I did want to change that fate of someone atleast once, but I guess not..'

He shrugged it off and went for the fridge. He grabbed some baby formula and started walking over towards Lily to feed her. 'She's right. I shouldn't end up like Dad.

Someone who lost their arm when trying to save someone who didn't need saving. I shouldn't end up like a hero who's title is nothing more than just that. A title.

This is my own story after all. I'll follow my own footsteps..'

He laughed internally as a thought formed. 'I'll follow...my own footsteps..'
