Spider's Silk

The next day Draco arose with a fire in his heart. He needed to do a couple things before he went into his first door. First he needed to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow, he also needed to visit his mother where she worked to get his clothing measurements so she could find him some equipment from her store. Next he needed to search for a door that was F-rank and had an opening he could join in. and lastly before entering the Door he was going to go to the Ouroboros guild house to pick up whatever Aurora had gotten him.

First he decided to go to his mothers shop downtown. He jogged there, deciding that he needed to start exercising more if he wanted to have a chance at the Doors with his current stats. By the time he was outside his mothers shop he was drenched in sweat. He looked up to see a small little shop tucked in between a bread store and a rundown looking weapons store.

His mothers store had clothing in the windows, all examples as the shop was just a measurement area and a viewing area. While if you head through the door behind the counter you would head into a small warehouse with clothes on racks and a bunch of material in roles waiting to be used. Although the store was on the smaller end, it was reliable so it was not short on business.

He walked in and greeted the lady sitting at the counter. Her name was Ruth. She was a petite lady with fully gray hair and bright blue eyes. Ruth was a 70 year old widow who owned the shop his mother worked at. She was like a grandmother to Draco as he spent most of his childhood here when his mother worked late to finish an order for a customer.

"Hello how may we ser- oh Draco my dear, how long has it been?" Ruth walked up to him, wrapping her arms around him before pushing him away making the gesture of swishing air away from her nose "few what did you do? Just run a marathon?" Draco laughed at her poking and asked if she was able to tell his mother he was here.

Ruth disappeared into the back area before returning with his mother. She was all business, telling him to strip to his underwear to take his measurements. He did as she said as he was used to this as when they ever needed to make clothing for a customer that was around the same size as he was at that given time. They would ask him to give them a rough sketch of that person's measurements.

"What's the occasion?" Ruth asked as she helped his mother measure his shoulder length. "My son got his collar off and got his title." "I saw, congratulations by the way. So you're going for an interview and need new clothing?" before Draco could say anything his mother beat him to the punch. "He's going to be a Striker." Ruth's skilled hands paused what they were doing before they resumed.

It was well known that Ruth had originally just fixed clothing but she started making new types of clothes out of materials from within the Door's as a hobby. So her husband decided to go into Doors and collect these materials for her. He always wore her clothing so if anyone was interested in this new clothing he could recommend his wife's shop. Until one day he was killed in a Door that was miss-rank.

He had heard there was spider silk there that sparkled like a rainbow. So he went in wanting to surprise her with a fancy new material to create clothes with. But he never wore protection as his title allowed him to move fast so he was just a gatherer and he wanted to show off her clothes. When Ruth heard the news she closed the shop for 2 weeks straight. Then one day it reopened with a new product on the shelfs, Enchanted clothing. And in the main window was a shirt that when hit by the sun at just the right angle, it would shine all the colors of the rainbow.

Turned out her title was silver tongue which made her tongue silver. She said it allowed her to resist poisons which was a more useless version of a potion maker, however seeing as she was already a seamstress, she stayed in the business forgoing potion making. However his mother once told him that the tongue discoloration was just a side effect of her title, and her real ability was hypnotize. She was able to hypnotize someone albeit on a very small scale to do what she suggested.

Her title's rank was very low, so she was only really able to suggest things like agreeing to come back if they ever had clothing issues or needed something new. That's one of the reasons her business is booming now. Ruth finished measuring him and slowly walked over to the counter where she sat down on an old bar stool that had been there since he was younger.

"And you're set on this course?" Draco felt bad, he knew her past better than most as his mother was working there since before everything happened so he had known Ruth's husband. He was a very kind fellow, he was always faithful to his wife, always looking at her with a look of pure adoration on his face. "I am" is all he could say, but he held his head up meeting her eyes when he said it.

"Very well, get dressed and follow me." not knowing what was going on he and his mother followed Ruth behind the counter and through the door into the small warehouse. There were tables set up with sewing machines on some of them and some just had a pin cushion. This was where his mother usually worked, she had a creation title so she got her tools from her title, then as she upgraded her title she could go buy better tools from title blacksmiths. Ruth led him into another section of the warehouse where there was a metal door.

There stood a taller man around 6'3, he looked menacing with his chiseled body just staring at the approaching people. Ruth and his mother walked up to the man and started to talk. "Hello Frank.'' The man looked over at his mother and a wide smile formed on his stoked face. "Joice, Ruth. what brings you both here?" He looked over his mothers shoulder to look at Draco. "And who's the tag along? Is he an investor?

"If I'd known an investor was coming I'd have dressed up. Probably doesn't look right that a clothing store worker is in mundane clothing.'' Ruth cut off his continued muttering. "Relax Frank, this is Joice's son, Draco." Frank looked visibly relieved. "He is becoming a Striker." Frank looked over at Draco's mother with a concerned look on his face. His mother let out a breath. "He already made up his mind, plus if anything happens he knows i would beat him up worse than anything in those Doors could do to him." "besides he's a ranged dealer."

That seemed to lessen both Ruth's and Franks worry if just by a tiny sliver. Frank opened the metal door behind him so the three of them could walk in. There Draco found himself standing in a square room filled with different types of clothes hanging on the walls. Ranging from bikinis all the way to what looked like thick fur winter coats. He was dumb founded, every single one of these had a purple glow to them. When he looked at their window's, it was confirmed that they were all enchanted clothing.

This room was full of different enchanted clothing and some of them were high grade too. "Pick out an outfit, it will be on me" Draco and his mother both looked at Ruth with bewildered expressions. Even one of these items would cost at least a year's paycheck. And that was for the low rank clothing.

His mother started to protest but Ruth put up her hand silencing his mother. "I consider you both my family...and I can't lose more family to a Door." Draco and his mother's protests fell silent. Draco's mother looked up from the ground to meet Ruth's eyes. "Thank you." Ruth waved her hand in the air, turning around to hide the lone tear that started to fall down her cheek. After taking a second she turned around, all presence of the fragile Ruth vanishing as a smile showed bright and true on her face. "Shall we get you all set."
