Inevitable Fate: Part 1

Lavernius stood still and looked at each of them in turn. He slowly unsheathed his sword, Excalibur. David took a step forward.

"I see Azazel did not keep his promise." Lavernius said

"I see who you are now." David said

"Who am I?" Lavernius asked

"You are a liar. A killer. A thief. A monster. You are my enemy." David said

"This is the end of you, Lavernius." Jack said, standing next to David.

"You have killed too many people. Your reign of terror ends now." Phoenix said, standing on the other side of David.

Ash and Hazel stood behind David.

"I have become whole." Lavernius said, his veins began to glow brightly.

"And what do you mean by that?" David asked

"It is simple. You cannot stop me. All your weapons will be useless against me. I can destroy you all with a swift swing." Lavernius said, holding Excalibur in one hand.

"Azazel betrayed you. He closed us off from our world. We have nothing left to lose but our lives," Jack said, "Can you say the same?"

Lavernius put his hand over the orb around his neck and clutched it before answering, "You cannot kill me."

"So be it." Jack said

Jack moved fast and swung hard at Lavernius. But Lavernius blocked it effortlessly and countered with his own strike. Jack tried another attack, but Lavernius blocked it again and kicked Jack in the gut. Jack fell back and landed on his knees.

David jumped into the fight and slashed at Lavernius, but missed and hit the wall. The glass was strong and only chipped. David continued his onslaught on Lavernius, but got nowhere. Ash and Hazel rushed to help David. They distracted him long enough for David and Jack to recuperate. Jack dashed and sliced at Lavernius' arm that held the sword from behind. He cut through the wrist, but there was no wound or blood. Using gravity Energy, Lavernius pushed all four of them away. They all fell to the ground. Phoenix wasted no time. The second after he used Energy, Phoenix used as much strength as he could in one swing. He cut Lavernius' chest vertically upward. He felt the contact, but like before, there was no mark. Lavernius swung at Phoenix. He barely dodged and got his cheek cut, a shallow cut. Phoenix did not stop his assault. Neither did Lavernius. Their blades clashed repeatedly, creating sparks. Phoenix kept cutting into his skin, but Lavernius regenerated too quickly for there to be visible damage.

Jack ran up and tackled Lavernius. He grabbed a dagger from his waist holster and stabbed Lavernius in the chest multiple times. The demon sent a shock wave of Energy and sent Jack, and the others, flying. They each hit a wall and struggled to get up. Lavernius ripped his shirt that was riddled with cuts and holes off. His body was pure muscle. The longer the fight went on, the brighter he glowed.

"Don't stop attacking! Aim for vital organs and his head! We need to wear him down!" Phoenix shouted

After an hour of fighting, Jack and Phoenix had wounds all over their bodies. They both fought with pure skill and power. No amount of training or experience could have prepared them for this fight. There was no way they could win. They were outmatched. Lavernius had a blank expression on his face, while the others were visibly in pain and tired. David, Ash and Hazel let Jack and Phoenix rest. Jack passed out and Phoenix struggled picking him up and taking him out of the battle.

"You will pay for what you did! Lavernius!" David shouted in pure rage.

David and Ash charged Lavernius, while Hazel stayed back and used healing Energy on Phoenix and Jack. Lavernius turned his head and saw her using it. David tried to stop him, but he was too weak and slow. Lavernius kicked Ash and David back. In that moment, Ash's heart sank as he saw Lavernius holding Hazel by the throat. Lavernius lifted her off the ground and impaled his sword through her heart. Her body twitched as her soul escaped her body. Lavernius dropped her cold body on the crystal floor. Ash shouted in pain, but his sorrow quickly turned into rage.

"I'll kill you! I'll kill you, Lavernius Bear!" Ash shouted, as he charged Lavernius.

Ash threw himself forward and attacked Lavernius with everything he had. Lavernius easily avoided his attacks and knocked Ash away. Then Lavernius turned towards Ash and pointed his blade at him, ready to stab him in the chest. Before he could, Phoenix stabbed Lavernius from behind. He twisted the blade before pulling it out. Lavernius showed no signs of pain. The wound healed as soon as the blade left his body. Lavernius raised his sword to take Phoenix's life when Jack came between them. Lavernius cut down Jack and instantly killed him. Jack's blood spilled out as he collapsed to the floor. Phoenix swung at Lavernius' neck with an immense amount of force. His blade made contact and sliced through the devil's neck.

"Impossible." Phoenix said, taking a step back.

Lavernius' head did not fall off his shoulders. In fact, the second the blade pierced his skin, it healed. David rushed behind Lavernius with Ash and they both sliced him as much as they could. Doing as much damage in a second. Lavernius pulsated Energy and pushed them away. It wasn't long before they were knocked down again. Lavernius looked at them with a blank face. Phoenix and David attacked in sync. Each one of them landed a blow. Lavernius blocked every one of them. Finally, David's attack connected and his sword slid across Lavernius' stomach. A large gash opened up. But as soon as the sword left the wound, the bleeding stopped and the cut closed. David pulled his sword out and Lavernius took his chance.

He used gravity Energy and sent him flying into a wall. The glass shattered and he flew into the next room. David struggled to get up. Ash held his arm and helped him stand. Lavernius focused on Phoenix. The two of them fought for several minutes. Phoenix was exhausted, while Lavernius wasn't even trying. He just stood there, blocking all of Phoenix's attacks. As Lavernius stood there watching Phoenix struggle. David tackled Lavernius and he lost his grip on his sword. David punched Lavernius in the face multiple times. Lavernius hit David in the gut and pushed him off. David fell against the wall, knocking the breath out of him. Ash and Phoenix held Lavernius back while David got to his feet.

Phoenix struggled to block Lavernius' blows, but nothing seemed to work. David and Ash watched helplessly. All three of them knew that if they didn't do something, they would lose. That thought alone gave them enough energy to keep fighting. They wouldn't give up until death came calling. David and Ash stepped in front of Phoenix and protected him from any harm. Their swords clashed against each other. David and Ash could barely keep Lavernius back. Their arms trembled with fatigue. The blades of their weapons were covered in red blood. Suddenly David slowly started winning the fight. His attacks grew stronger and more precise. One after another, his attacks connected and brought about massive wounds. He thrust his sword forward and struck Lavernius in the heart. David lost his grip on his sword and Lavernius stumbled backwards, but he still stood.

The air filled with silence. No one spoke. Not because they felt defeated but afraid. Lavernius grabbed the sword and pulled it out of his chest. Behind him was the balcony. He threw the sword down and it slid into the wall. Lavernius' wound healed.

David stared at Lavernius, shocked by what happened. Lavernius slowly rose above the floor. He held out both his arms as he levitated, dropping Excalibur onto the floor. He began to change. His eyes turned black and it seemed like they held infinite galaxies inside them. His veins turn from gold and blue to pure white like snow. Cracks in his skin formed and radiated. Reality around him became distorted in an irrevocable way. The sky behind him, outside the balcony, changed. It was pitch black for merely a second then an ocean of stars and planets materialized out of nothing. It was a beautiful and terrifying sight to see. Power surged inside his body, instead of deteriorating he became stronger, he became something stronger. David, Ash, and Phoenix watched his transformation in terror.

"I am... the Cosmos." Lavernius said
