Carriage Accident

3:00 p.m., 22nd July 1521.

Black shirt rolled up till the elbows, a gray single-breasted vest, and striped ivy cap of matching color.

Yet again, I'm staring at my unfamiliar reflection. Similar to that one night when I first came into this world. For some reason, it is giving me a conflicted emotion.

My amber eyes were changed to blue using the contact lenses the makeup artist made me wear. It's very uncomfortable and I'm afraid it won't come off anymore.

Different from the gel-like texture from the world I came from, these lenses have a plastic-like texture and cover the whole sclera of my eyes.

To be honest, I'm quite surprised contact lenses were already invented at this point. Especially since it is still 1521. So I decided not to be surprised anymore if I find out they already invented cars by next year.

Taking one last glance at my reflection, I went back to where Miss Patricia and Miss Yvonne, the makeup artist, are waiting for me.

What we're doing today is in accordance with the conditions I told her about yesterday. To see if the skill of the said "professional" can indeed change my appearance. And her skills far surpassed my expectations.

After she contoured my face, made me wear a black wig and contact lenses. I definitely looked like a different person now. I don't even recognize my own reflection anymore!

Miss Yvonne also put a fake beard on my jaw, chin, and upper lip making me appear more mature.

But although I admire her skills, all these things are making me uncomfortable. The fake beard is so itchy and the lenses are not failing with making their presence known whenever I blink. It's annoying!

"What do you think, Mr. Jack?" Miss Patricia asked nervously. My answer will decide on whether I will help her tomorrow.

"I think it's passable."

"So, does that mean you will act as Sam for me tomorrow?"

The corner of my mouth twitched with her reminder. "That's what we agreed about."

In all honesty, I really don't want to do this if not for the 100 demi she already paid in advance and her unyielding personality. I am even hoping that the disguising attempt for today will fail miserably but I couldn't be more unlucky.

9:00 a.m., 23rd July 1521.

"Really, I couldn't thank you enough, Mr. Jack." For the nth time, Miss Patricia is thanking me again. For the record, she already said that for the fourth time already.

"It's nothing," I said uninterestingly.

I mean, I get that you're thankful and all but I'm not, so just please keep that gratitude for yourself.

Riding a carriage, we're headed towards the Veritas Homes where her parents are waiting.

Through Ethan, I later found out that Veritas Homes offers a housing loan. Ranging from rowhouses to bungalow houses. After paying for the down payment, you can only then pay it monthly for 5-20 years with 10% interest. Of course, you can also buy it in cash which is much cheaper minus all those interests if you have the money.

As for Miss Patricia's family, they bought it in cash.

"Miss Patricia, are you really sure I don't have to talk?"

"Yes, you don't have to."

"Was Sam a silent guy then?"

"No, he's talkative."

That doesn't make sense, does it? Well, whatever. I'm only doing what I am told to do so. I mean, why bother if it will only make my life more complicated?

During the ride, we didn't really talk that much. Looking at her, she seemed to be deep in her thoughts so I didn't bother her anymore. I just minded my own business all while silently cursing due to the uncomfortable feeling caused by all the stuff Miss Yvonne put on my face.

Everything was fine. From the preparation to our departure, everything was totally fine thanks to Miss Patricia's meticulousness. Yes, it was fine.

But not until for some unknown reasons, the horses just suddenly began snorting as they zigzag. They were stomping and pawing as though they were afraid of something. And so, completely ignoring the coachman, they bolted, dragging with them the coach.

Both me and Miss Patricia who were inside the coach were so surprised to react on time. And so, we slammed to the side as soon as the horses started galloping at full speeds.

With the coachman no longer in control, I can't hope for it to stop any time soon. The coach was moving in full speed that we can't possibly jump out of here uninjured. But if we stay here, we will get injured either way if the horses won't stop running any moment soon.

"Aah!"

"Miss Patricia!"

The coach seemed to have come alive as it violently shook and tilted to one side until it completely flipped over.

Reflexively, I reached to protect Miss Patricia. Especially her womb area.

She's pregnant for freakin' sake!

Thankfully, the coach finally stopped moving. Or so it seemed like the horses broke free leaving it behind.

Soon after, the door that was facing upwards suddenly opened, showing the coachman who has dirt and scratches in random places of his arms and face. It looked like he manage to jump when the horses started acting up earlier.

"Sir, Madam! Were you two okay? Was no one injured?" he asked frantically.

I turned to look at Miss Patricia but my words were stuck in my throat, unable to come out when I saw her unconscious with slight blood tricking down her right temple.
