Chapter 644 ( Awakening )

The group happily ate their lunch while Remia kept looking at the dish she had created because she was honestly still a little sceptical about the idea of eating monster meat. She had prepared a normal dish, using Leviathan meat as a replacement, so technically she hadn't done a bad job.

"Try it with confidence, it was delicious," Cloud said as he took out a potion and handed it to Myu's mother.

"What is this?" - Remia asked in surprise although if she was honest, she had a bad feeling.

"I'll be honest, we shouldn't be able to eat monster meat naturally, but at the same time our body adapts quickly after taking the first bite, that's why I created this potion that takes away the discomfort of eating it for the first time" - Cloud answered honestly.

Remia looked at the potion, then at her plate and wondered why they had decided to eat monster meat.

"It's because of the huge concentration of mana inside monster meat" - answered Tio, who had the highest resistance to beast mana corruption thanks to her draconic ancestry - "Monster meat not only helps the recovery of mana of the one who consumes it, but it can increase Stats and mana source after eating it too often."

Remia looked around before gritting her teeth and taking a firm bite of her food, only to feel her body start to feel a little strange, though that feeling disappeared as quickly as it started, leaving only a feeling of wanting to eat more.

Cloud watched in surprise as Myu's mother continued to eat without taking the potion, as if she felt no pain at all after her body was being overloaded by Leviathan's erratic mana - "Strange."

"I think the same thing, normally she should be screaming in pain after eating all that mana, but it seems like her body is assimilating it too fast, even faster than it takes her to eat the Leviathan's flesh" - Yue added while raising an eyebrow. She quickly looked at Myu, who was happily eating the food, but not showing such a drastic reaction as Myu.

"Are we ignoring something?" - Kaori asked jealously as she remembered the first time she had eaten monster meat. The sensation had been painful, as if a powerful electric current had invaded every inch of her body.

Shizuku was also showing a similar expression because the pain shouldn't be so easy to ignore.

"I think I know why" - Tio muttered while gaining the gaze of those present - "Leviathans are direct descendants of ancient sea dragons, only their blood has been diluted by the passage of time, doesn't that remind you of someone?"

The girls' eyes widened as they almost immediately understood their companion's words.

Myu looked up for a few seconds before continuing to eat with gusto.

Cloud was wiping his face from time to time, though he had to admit that Tio's words were not so far from reality. He could feel in his blood how something was slowly awakening inside Remia, a feeling that Tio was also detecting, which was why she had said this assumption.

When she finished eating, Remia showed an embarrassed look because she didn't know what had possessed her. She had felt her body screaming for more meat and was looking at the other dishes with eyes that looked as if she hadn't eaten in months.

Cloud quickly handed her the dish, only to watch as she took it and began to eat with a ferocity that was not befitting a lady as the woman normally presented herself.

Yue and the others were surprised, more so with how quickly the Dagon woman was looking at their plates.

Even Tio, who was part dragon, was sweating as he felt the primal aura Remia was unconsciously releasing.

"I-I think we'd better let her eat in peace," muttered Shea fearfully.

Shizuku and the others nodded as they watched Remia continue to devour all the dishes, except for her daughter's, because no matter how strange she was acting, there was no way she was going to take away her baby's source of nutrition.

30 minutes later, Remia was apologising to her guests for her embarrassing behaviour.

She had been conscious the whole time, but it was as if her body was on autopilot.

The girls quickly accepted her apology as Tio walked over to Remia and tried to sense some change in her.

Remia was a little confused because she could feel how her strength had increased drastically, which was easily noticeable if they took into account that she was an ordinary Dagon.

"Her mana source is at least 10 times bigger than before" - said Tio while raising an eyebrow - "The scales are gone, but her pupils are now reptilian, interesting..."

Myu looked curiously at her mother, who was starting to hyperventilate from the changes in her body.

"I guess I was right, Leviathan's flesh must have awakened some of his ancient blood" - Tio said while frowning - "But now I'm a bit confused. Why did Remia-san show that reaction only upon taking the first bite?"

Cloud was also a bit confused by this because he had gone through something similar when he transformed into [Tyrant], he had been eager to find creatures with draconic blood in order to stabilise his DNA, although this was a primitive instinct that was hidden in the deepest part of his genetic material, that's why he thought that something similar should have happened to the Dagon as well, but now he saw that this was not the case.

"Maybe we are ignoring the fact that they are more 'human' than sea dragon" - Yue replied while raising an eyebrow - "That's why their rationality overcame their instincts, although that changed when Remia-san devoured the Leviathan's flesh".

"Hmm, it's a possibility" - nodded Tio as she closed her eyes and thought for a few seconds - "Anyway, this is a good opportunity for Remia-san, with this increase in her mana pool, and the improvement in her water affinity, it can turn her into a terrifying mage"

"You also have to mention that her muscles seem to have been strengthened, so she could fight directly with weapon if she wanted to" - Yue said as she took Remia's arm and started touching some areas - "A little training and she could reach Shea's level."

"Fine, I'll help you, Remia-san!" - Shea exclaimed with a huge grin as she flexed her biceps.

"No, Shea would still be superior as a melee combatant, though Remia-san would make up for it with her mastery of water magic," Cloud said as he analysed the situation better.

Shea smiled when she heard this as her ears twitched slightly.

Myu smiled when she heard all this because with this there was no way Cloud would leave them behind.

"Ok, I think we'd better change the subject" - Cloud said seriously as he looked around - "I think I've discovered the labyrinth, though I need to check a few things."

"Wasn't it at the place the mayor told you about?" - Yue asked as he frowned.

"Not exactly" - Cloud replied as he told them his hypothesis.

"Now that you mention it, there are stories about how many Dagon disappeared around that area during the nights, that's why that place became a forbidden zone" - Remia said while nodding - "If what you say is true, then it's quite possible that you're right."

"Adventure!" - Myu exclaimed with excitement.

"No!" - Cloud and Remia exclaimed at the same time, which surprised them, though they quickly decided to leave that for another time.

"Listen, Myu, where we're going is an extremely dangerous place, and neither I, nor your mother want you to get hurt," said Cloud as he watched Remia nod firmly.

"Your father is right, your safety comes first, besides, no matter how much I've grown stronger, I still don't have the power to protect you in a place like that," Remia said as she watched her daughter's spirits deflate like a balloon that had been punctured.

Remia felt a little bad to see her daughter sad, but her mind was made up and there was no way her little girl could trick or manipulate her into changing her mind.

For the first time in all this time, Myu felt that it wasn't good for Cloud and Remia to be together.

The girls raised an eyebrow, though they decided to ignore it all because entering the maze was more important.

"Now that we've got that out of the way, it's time for us to start preparations," Cloud said seriously.

Yue walked over to Remia and handed her a small journal.

"What is this?" - Remia asked with surprise and curiosity.

"It's my notes from my magical studies, as well as a small manual on how to train from scratch" - said Yue calmly - "It may not be much, but it's more than enough until we return."
