  Paxton stared at me, his eyes nothing but horror as he stared at what the monster was doing to me. But I was much more horrified about him and his injuries. I had accepted my fate, but I wasn't willing to accept his. My poor dragon's skin was ripped from his shoulder all the way down to his stomach. A bloody bandage kept him together, but just barely. Metal bands held him to his strange bed, but even from my viewpoint I could see it bit into his skin, blood dripped down from their barbed hold.

  "You should be more concerned with yourself," the man known as Eagon chuckled. He took his leather belt off and doubled it in his hand. "Do you know what I'm going to do with this, little human?" I hoped he wouldn't lick me again. He made me shudder. As rough as my wolves were, they were better than this man.
