CHAPTER 87

  I woke up in a darkened room. The curtains were all pulled and not-so-soft snores came from the figure next to me. I glanced over and noticed Shepard with his chin on his chest, sleeping away. Thick white bandages were bound around his ribs.

  What had happened?

  I'd fallen, I remembered that bit. But the rest of that tale was like a dream. There was no possible way that he had called my name. He had refused to use it before.

  I wrinkled my nose. How much time had passed? Damon would be after me soon, and there's no doubt there would be some sort of punishment in store for me from Magnus for failing this little adventure. I sighed and buried my head in my hands. All I wanted was to go home. I didn't even care if everyone overlooked me again. I was so done with this life.

  "You're awake, Wolfless?" snapped Shepard beside me.
