Arc 3(12)

"They attacked us, but my husband tried to save me, and to save me, he attacked both people but he was unable to stop them. They...They..."

But before Feng Ming continued, his voice choked, and he was unable to say a word. He was unable to describe the scene. He was trembling, and he was filled with devastation. He whimpered.

Feng Li saw his condition and immediately gave him water to calm down.

Feng Ming took a sip, and stuttered, "He died to save me. I tried to run, but they attacked me too. But thankfully, I was near the place where Yu Xin was near. Hearing other people, they stopped following me and left."

Feng Li was speechless for a while.

Feng Li nodded, "Don't worry. I'll take care of you."

Thinking, 'First, I need to check the situation and then talk to the system about it.'

He rubbed Feng Ming's head and went out. His footsteps were heavier and his expression was bleak.

Feng Ming looked at his back, with tears falling from his eyes.

------

Feng Li left the cave and strode straight toward the other beasts, who were standing outside of the cave.

"Let's go and check the area where Feng Ming got injured."

"Let's start. Xu and Hua will follow me while the others will help with the patient's treatment."

"Yes.", all of the beasts said.

They arrived at the spot where Feng Ming had been hurt. Xu was one of the elite sub-beasts, so the first to act after getting a report about Feng Ming's incident. Hua and Xu's eyes scanned the surroundings while Feng Li paced around in thought. He came to a halt after inspecting everything thoroughly.

"See if anyone has found out anything so far?", Feng Li asked, his voice serious.

"We've checked, and everything is fine. There isn't even a speck of evidence, my lord. We found a few wolves' hairs in the area where Feng Ming was attacked. Since that wolf clan is on good terms with Feng Ming, this can only be a mere coincidence and nothing else.", answered one of the sub-beasts, Hua.

"How about a beast's paw-prints or traces of beasts around this area? Did you find anything?"

"That was investigated. One of our colleagues had already done an initial examination, but found nothing, and that the forest had been clean."

"Is Feng Ming all right, my Lord?", Hua asked him, cautiously.

"The blood was dried up, and the area was clean and safe."

"We'll conduct further investigations."

"Where has the person gone to get the report?", Hua continued to ask questions.

"One of our sub-beasts saw a sub-beast and beasts discussing something and the report came in the nick of time. As we speak, we are waiting to continue searching and to gather more information."

Feng Li's voice was cold, and there wasn't a hint of mercy or empathy in his tone.

"Ok."

------

Feng Li walked up, after not able to understand the meaning of this sudden accident and change in plot.

He messaged the system, [Is something wrong with the plot? I know, having memories of the past world can cause bugs, such as the appearance of transmigrators, rebirth or dual lives, etc., but aren't these incidents a little more random and unusual?]

He knew that his questioning wasn't out of the world. He couldn't stop his doubts. Even though there was a small chance for a plot twist, it was only possible if he did it. But, he knew there was nothing wrong with him, nor Feng Ming, so it had to be someone else, or maybe because the transmigration had a bug.

The system, or child, saw the message and immediately ran to his master.

"Master! There is something wrong with the plot."

The old man's face immediately became serious.

The child's heartfelt nervous when he saw his master looking serious.

"Brat, I think, he is back." the old man replied as his face turned serious.

He continued, "Maybe, he was following him all the time."

"Who are you talking about, Master?", asked the child, confused.

The old man just snorted, ignoring the kid's question.

"I have to explain. By that time, we might have to do something about this or maybe we have to do nothing."

"Ask your host to stay alert all the time."

"Go and answer him, afterwards we'll go somewhere."

"Okie~.", said the child happily and skipped in joy.

Master saw the child's face resembling someone he knew, and a bitter taste surfaced on his tongue.

"Am I...doing everything right? I only hope you come back."

He closed his eyes, as he murmured and waited for the child.

----------

Feng Li received a notification from the system about the change. His mouth pursed and the anger on his face could no longer be suppressed. He needed to do something about this.

He gritted his teeth. But, he didn't blame the system for what was happening.

He clenched his fists, his teeth gritted as his mind was in turmoil. His anger could be felt in his aura.

The moment he learned that something was going wrong, he almost flew into a fit of rage. But, after calming down a bit, and finally understanding what he should do, he only exhaled slowly.

But the aura around him still hadn't decreased, so his aura still made his surroundings turn dark and gloomy.

He controlled his thoughts and emotions and focused on the tasks to be completed. He went back, thinking of telling Feng Ming something about it.

----

After the operation and treatment of Feng Ming's leg, Feng Li was waiting outside.

He didn't want to give too much information to sub-beasts or beasts, otherwise, it'll cause chaos in the clan.

Xu, Hua, and another colleague, Wen, were quietly guarding the gate. They couldn't ask the reason and could only stand and wait.

He received another information notification from the system. He furrowed his eyebrows and soon calmed down. It was only a guess before but now he has confirmed it. From previous worlds to now, he has been followed by something or someone. Maybe a lot of things will happen and this was one of the warning signs.

The healer approached them.

Feng Li gazed at his serious expression and wanted to know if Feng Ming was doing well.

"Your Majesty, your brother is doing good, but I'm not sure if he can recover from this injury. Moreover, it's not the kind of injury that heals easily in the short term and might require surgery and recovery over several years, and even then, the scars will remain for the rest of his life. Your brother has a few broken bones and will most likely feel pain once in a while. After some rest, his wounds will close. Although his healing might not be perfect and smooth, his wound might be scarred."

Feng Li replied gravely. "Understood. Thanks for taking care of this for me, then."

"You're welcome, your majesty. It is my pleasure to serve you."

The healer bowed and walked away.

Hua, who heard the news, could no longer stay still and immediately spoke. "Feng Ming's leg will be crippled and I cannot help but imagine what would happen."

"..."

There wasn't a better solution, but it was better than death.

He went inside, saw his brother lying down on the bed, and then closed the door behind him.

"Brother, was there any clue as to who was it? Did you know him? Did you...did you find Hei Lang?", Feng Ming asked him when he saw that he had entered his bedroom.

Feng Li didn't answer.

"Were you going to lie to me and try to change the topic of our conversation, Brother?", questioned Feng Ming tremblingly.

"Don't change the topic of our conversation and tell me, Brother. Didn't you just receive the report?", Feng Ming queried after not hearing a response.

"Brother! Please tell me something."

Feng Li didn't reply. Instead, he stood still.

Feng Ming tried again but to no avail. Feng Ming became angrier because he had asked for the third time but was given no answers, so he screamed in anger.

"Say something, Brother!"

When his anger subsided a little bit, Feng Ming remembered to ask about the only thing that mattered to him.

"Where is my husband's body? I'll bring his body back for a proper burial and honor his name, so where is his body?", asked Feng Ming impatiently.
