Chapter 1

Chloe paced around in the animal shelter's enclosure, looking longingly outside the bars in which contained her.

It had been roughly 7 months since she came here, and it was beginning to get unbearable. Every single day she had to pretend to be a wolf or dog or whatever they thought she was. Every single day, she didn't know how much longer she could keep this up.

She'd wake up in the morning and tell herself, "One more day, just one more day."

She needed to get out, to escape. It wasn't that the place was particularly bad or she was getting abused, the people there actually treated her quite well.

For an animal, for a dog, a wolf even, just not a werewolf.

The people also seemed to see her stress, but after a while of looking for the cause, they gave up. Put it down to her being 'temperamental'.

Right on schedule a slab of meat arrived in her enclosure and Chloe immediately ran over to it, it was the highlight of her day; meal times. Even if it only occurred twice. At the beginning there were often times she would feel hungry, starving even, but her stomach had long since shrunk and her body adapted to their new eating schedule.

She laid down and observed her surroundings, her gaze fell on her neighbouring enclosure. It was empty! It then occurred to her, her old companion must've been bought, and almost as if it was her thoughts that caused it, a pug that on a chain lead and collar was lead into the empty enclosure.

The enclosure door slammed shut, and Chloe winced at the loud and sudden noise.

She tilted her head at the new arrival, watching as it paced back and forth, seemingly anxious to be in this new and unfamiliar place. A worker walked over and tried to comfort the creature, "Hey boy, you ok? Don't worry, you're safe now." She smiled, her work seemingly done and walked away.

As soon as she left the pug resumed it's pacing and Chloe, getting irritated, turned away from him and resting her head upon her paws she fell asleep.

Chloe was awoken by the sound of chattering voices, they were speaking fast and excitedly so she gave up on trying to eavesdrop, instead she just watched.

A member of staff was talking to a teenage boy around 16 she would guess, he looked like your classic nerd; glasses, braces and ridiculous overgrown hair.

The worker was explaining something to him, while he was clearly tuned out, instead looking one by one into each of the enclosures.

His gaze finally turned to Chloe and their eyes locked, she tilted her head a habit she tended to overuse. The stare soon turned competitive as she refused to turn away, he eventually caved and turned to the woman as she said something to him. On the inside Chloe smiled happy to have achieved something, even if it was as small and pathetic as beating someone in a staring contest.

She thought that was the end of it and so she rested her head again and closed her eyes, which was why she was so surprised when the two walked over to her enclosure and stood there staring in on her.

Getting curious she stood up and walked over to the bars that separated her from the two, as she analysed the situation.

"Are you quite sure?" the woman questioned the boy.

"Yes, she's the one for me."
