I'm the boss

"Please... Just once" she pleaded with him. Wow! Without a thought he agreed and moved to the passenger seat. He turned her way to see how small she is on the driver's seat. Lucy touched the steering wheel like she'd never touched it before, surprising him, she found the key and started the car. She drove so well than he'd expected, she keeps impressing him but he didn't think he'd impressed her just for once.

"Do you have a driver's license?" He asked on the way to her house.

"Yes" she replied.

"That means you've done so many jobs, tell me about them" he insisted but when she looked at him he could see she doesn't want to talk about it. So he pressed his lips and turned to the window by this right. Silence overcome.

"I saw you were speaking with Edward earlier... What do you think about him?" She asked and sounded like she was suspicious of him. Eric wondered why.

"From the way he spoke, he's a nice person and he really cares about you, he told me he wants you to be happy. He sounded like he knows so much about you" Eric said as he recalled.

"We met weeks ago... It was just a coincidence and we aren't even friends"

"I heard but he consider you as one"

Hearing that she glanced at him as if not believing his statement. "Why don't you like having friends? Have you perhaps been hurt before?"

She gave him a stern look. "I do have friends Mister just that I chose who I want as a friend" she said in a very stern voice signalling to him that that should be his limit for now.

"You are a good driver. Why don't you get a car?" He asked after some minutes of silence.

"Will you stop talking?" She almost yelled.

"Just wanted a conversation, sorry" he said and turned back to the window.

"Good night" she said when she parked the car and climbed out. Had he gone too far with his questions?

Why does he fail to have a good conversation with her? He climbed out too and ran to where she had reach. "Lucy" he stood in front of her, she looked up at him.

"Yes"

He smiled and tilted his head to one side, leaning closer... At first she thought he was going to kiss her but he only kissed her cheek and when he leaned back, she felt he had left a mark on her cheek, she could feel the heat erasing slowly. "Have a good night sleep" he said and walked past her. She sluggishly went to her house and went to bed.

When Lucy arrived at work the next day, the atmosphere in his house was unpleasant. What's going on? Walking slowly, pacing her gaze about, two maid descended the stairs and went to another maid in tears. She went forward to them and asked what happened but they weren't able to speak. Then it hits her that it was Daniel. She dropped her bag and went up his room, pushing the door knob but the door never opened up, she heard terrifying sounds from his room, he's upset again. Why? But he promised he wouldn't smash things to the ground anymore. She knocked several times but got no response and eventually she left the door. She prepared his breakfast but he never came out of his room and when he did, she wasn't around, he only had lunch.

She resumed back to work when evening arrived, she prepared his dinner and when he was having dinner she took her bag ready to head home but decided to talk with him before going. She wanted to know what's wrong with him.

Standing by his right as he slowly ate his food.

"Daniel... Are you okay?" She asked but didn't receive a response.

"Hey..."

"Where were you Lucy?" He asked in a low tone.

'huh?'

"What do you mean Daniel? I came to you this morning but you never answered me" she said looking down at him.

"So..." He looked at her. "Must I always answer you?" He asked

"Are you okay Daniel?" She asked but he hit the surface of the table so hard that it startled her, she gazed at him in surprise.

"Don't talk to me that way Lucy, I'm your boss. Show some respect!" He scolded her and she had her brows knitted.

"Wait... Wait, because you are the boss doesn't mean you can scold anyone because you are upset about something"

"I'm not upset!"

"Then why are you yelling at me, at everyone? And for what? Because you are the boss?"

"Yes Lucy, I'm the boss, I pay you and I pay them!"

She clenched her fists as she stared at him, she was fuming but she held back the urge to punch or slap his face.

"You pay us but you don't own us Daniel. We are also humans and you don't have the right to scold us because you are the boss, if we had a choice we wouldn't be here receiving all this from you!"

"Stop talking to me like that Lucy..."

"Why? Because you are the boss?" She asked, her eyes widened.

"Yes! I'm the boss Lucy, your boss!" He pointed his index finger at her.

She lowered her gaze and took in a deep breath.

"Then, I don't want you to be my boss, I'll send you my resignation letter" she said and walked away in rage. She left his house in so much anger so she headed to the bar instead and drank too her heart content. Getting angry and stressed is normal but venting it all on people is wrong, she doesn't do that, she just refuses to make people view her weakness. She also wanted to smash everything she sees but she controlled her urge, she knows the worth of things. Seems working with Daniel wasn't like the way she thought it would. When she was drunk, she managed to get home. The next day, in the morning, she had nowhere to go because she's jobless again, she lie in bed staring at the ceiling she received a message and when she checked her phone she saw it was Eric. He had texted last night. 'You there Lucy?' and this morning. 'Good morning' she lay on her belly and texted back, they had a nice conversation until he resumed work.

Daniel couldn't sleep that night but when morning arrived, he felt really exhausted and depressed. Why can't she understands that he's in pain? She wants him to treat his workers so well than they deserve. What about him? Who would treat him so well? He's just so alone.

He couldn't stop thinking so he stood up and got the guitar he haven't played for a long time. He was the leader of a band when he was still in middle school. He loved those days.

He returned to his bed and crossed his leg before settling the instrument on his laps. He began to play but didn't sing a song.

When he closed his eyes, he remembered the argument he had with Lucy. What if he replied to her in a different way.

"Daniel, are you okay?" She asked him but he didn't reply.

"Hey..."

"Where were you Lucy?" He asked.

"What do you mean? I came to you this morning but you never answered me"

"So... Must I always answer you?

"Are you okay Daniel?"

He looked at her instead of hitting the table. "I am"

"Tell me, I'm listening"

"Just go Lucy, you cannot understand me" he said and paused his imagination and also stopped playing.

"Are you upset again?" She asked, he resumed his imagination.

"I'm not"

"You are, you scolded everyone again and destroy things"

He looked up at her and pulled her in for a hug by wrapping her waist. "I'm not okay Lucy"

He opened his eyes and stopped playing and also ended his imaginations by bowing his head. In the end, he ordered for a drink and took his laptop to try to write a song.

Lucy went out to find a job, apologizing to Daniel was the last thing she'd planned to do. It wasn't her fault, she just wanted to explain to him that he shouldn't hurt others because he's hurt. She also gets depressed but doesn't act like him.

She tried and tried but didn't find a job and even when she did, the pay was too low.
