The First Class

The teacher waved his hand down and the invisible pressure on everyone dissipated, they took their seats and sighed deeply.

Colou looked at Snow in a completely new light, everyone except her had a hard time resisting the pressure which was a test from the new teacher.

Alexander looked everyone in the face one by one, occasionally his gaze stopping at a few people for a few seconds, and then he cleared his throat.

"Let's see, once again, I am your magic theory instructor. My teaching methods are different than what you have seen so far and I can promise you that by half a year only half of you will remain." Alexander said with a bright smile which was followed by groans and curses from the students' side.

A wave of his hand stopped most of them and turned some from the groans of complaint to groans of pain.

"Now before we start, I will give a rough understanding of how my classes will work, how you will have to study, and how to earn your credits," Alexander said with a calm voice.

Credits were the currency used in the Academy, it can be used to buy anything, starting from magic tools to consumables.

"I will mostly do practical lessons, give you questions to solve yourself, expect a ton of homework. When you perform well enough teachers will reward you with credits, other than that you get a weekly 10 credits. I am open to doubt clearing sessions at night, yes that includes sleeping hours too only if you can afford to." Alexander said with a cute wink which didn't fit with his previous dominating personality at all.

The cat on the table which came together with Alexander, tapped its paw on the table twice and a few sheets appeared on everyone's desk.

Snow took a look at those pages and found some complex drawings on them, there were also written what looked like theories about elements on this paper. Colou look confident, when Snow turned at her she received a thumbs up from the bunny.

"I don't give the whole book at the same time, as some over-smart kids try to get ahead of themselves in desperation. If you do get your hands on the rest of the pages of the book then I expect you not to try anything from it unless you consulted me."

Everyone nodded as they understood what he really meant, but not everyone was satisfied as not all here were from rich households or noble bloodlines. To these unfortunate people coming to Academy 7 was a chance to rewrite their fates, but now they were under a lot of pressure by what Alexander said.

Nonetheless, he continued with his class as if he didn't notice this displeasure.

"I will start with the very basics, do not interrupt me unless I ask you to speak, if you raise your hand in my class expect to see the infirmary soon after. I won't wait for anyone either, if you can't understand something come and meet me at night as I said earlier."

He looked at everyone once again as if to decide who to ask a question, "Who can say me what is magic?"

Silence.

Alexander looked at everyone again and found the situation awkward. "I forgot to say you can raise hands to answer me but not to ask questions." He chuckled while saying it, laughing at his own blunder.

Almost everyone raised their hands now, other than those who were not confident or afraid to stand out too much.

"You say pink hair." Alexander pointed at a girl with pink waist-long hair. It was hard to say which hybrid she was in her human form but her brown bushy tail gave away her nature as a hybrid.

"Sir, magic is the manifestation of mana added with our will." The girl replied.

"Close but no cigar," Alexander replied and forced her to sit with the previous pressure. "Who else wants to try?"

Nearly half the hands dropped down as they had an answer similar to the previous girl.

"You, chubby face."

"The power to dominate the elements is called magic."

"Wrong," Alexander said with a facepalm.

"This will be your homework, say me what is magic, tomorrow. To help you bunch of idiots to understand it better I will now demonstrate something."

No one liked being called an Idiot but not like they could say a thing. They were already starting to hate this teacher, even snow who didn't understand anything going on.

Magic was a completely new world to her, but after seeing things around her how they were, she had guessed to be surprised some few more times.

Alexander raised his hand in the air and motioned as if pressing something, suddenly it felt like all the air was sucked around his fist. The air concentrated above his hand and formed a colorless ball.

As this happened Snow felt like the air lost something important as if it got deprived of its refreshing nature and the air felt a bit thin as if she was breathing carbon dioxide.

"Who can say me what it is?"

'Isn't that a ball of air?' Snow thought. 'Wait can I also do that?'

Thinking about being able to do something so cool made snow excited.

"A ball of mana," Colou replied as she was chosen to answer.

"Correct. And where did it come from?"

"...The air?" She said.

Alexander clicked his tongue. "No, the surrounding."

"As you can see I obtained mana from our surroundings, in this case, the air around us. Now look closely."

Alexander slowly opened his fist and the big ball of mana started to change colors. It is divided into 6 components with different colors and different energies.

"I turned this ball of mana into the basic components of magic or elements. Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Darkness, Light. We can call them together magic."

Now I hope some of you might be able to answer my earlier question.

Colou nodded. "Now I understand. Magic is nothing but the manifestation of the natural elements present in our surroundings, namely mana."

Alexander continued. "Mana is the basic requirement for performing any magic spell. Mana is converted into a particular element as we raise that element's abundance in our surroundings and make it follow our order."

Without any doubt, Snow's head was muddled with so much information. And she was not really familiar with magic in the first place.

One thing for sure, she was looking forward to tonight's doubt lessons she is going to take.

Bonus Part!

As Alexander was about to leave and the class was coming to an end, he asked if anyone had any questions.

Very few raised their hands as most of them were still busy digesting what they just learned.

"You say pink hair."

"Sir your age and are you single?"

Everyone looked at this girl as if she was crazy. But she was quite daring, they had to give that to her.

"19 and single. Not looking." He replied and the bell rang at the same time.

He left from the door as if nothing happened.

The last part of his line made a lot of people sad and even more people happy.

Outside the class Alexander was leaning against the wall and sighed deeply.

"To be young again. Sigh." He said to himself.

'You are still young, idiot.' A male voice said in his head.

"Nope, Rev, nope. I am not young anymore." Alexander said as he walked in the corridor.

With the black cat on his shoulder and licking its paws without any care.
