Chapter 44

The sound of the phone ringing was heard in the apartment. Seth looked at the number. He took gulp of beer and set the phone down. A few seconds it made the noise of a message being left. Two weeks had passed since the conversation. His phone had been going off several times a day during that time period. Seth had no reason to answer it. He didn't want to talk to the caller. He wanted to just cut everything off. Leon had tried to see him several times at the ER and Seth had no intention of seeing that man. He could take the cute nurse Ashely out, or whoever he wanted. He didn't want anything else to do with him. When the kids came over to visit. Seth tried everything he could possible do to not think of the other man. Yet, his son Michael knew right away what was going on. He had questioned his father about Leon, and of course, it was something he didn't want to discuss. Michael knew that the two were fighting, but didn't understand why and Seth had no reason to explain it either. So, to make sure that his kids didn't question the behavior of their father. He made sure to keep their attention to other things. When they came over to visit. He had set up a schedule, so they were always doing something. While they were eating or having down time, he would question their life now with their new stepfather. Anything he could to stop them from asking him about his own life.

However, when it was days like this, no work, no kids, just at home by himself, all he could do was drink. The phone went off again. Looking down he saw the caller name Leon. Seth just couldn't understand why Leon would keep calling when he clearly could tell that he wanted nothing to do with that man anymore. Or did he think that ignoring him and not answering the phone was just something he was doing for fun. The phone went off again. He was getting irritated. The phone wouldn't stop ringing. Seth grabbed it a pressed the talk button.

"Hello, Seth?" Leon's voice was heard over the phone. "You're there aren't you?" Leon questioned.

"What do you want?" Seth's voice was low and harsh.

"What do you mean? You have been ignoring me. Why won't you answer your phone? I have called so many times."

"I didn't want to talk to you." Seth replied coldly.

"What do you mean? I don't understand you attitude." Leon's voice was getting frustrated over the phone. "Every time I went to your work, I was told you were either too busy or you weren't there. Now tell me what is going on." Leon yelled.

"Let's end this." Seth spoke out the words he dreaded to say but knew he had to.

"Huh? What the hell. You're wanting to end it with no explanation?" Leon yelled into the phone.

"I would appreciate if you don't call me again." Seth spoke. His voice calmer than what he expected it to be.

"What! You have yet to explain anything. Seth! I'm coming over!" Leon yelled. He was trying to keep his cool, however he couldn't with the words Seth was saying.

"Don't come over. Don't call me. Don't came to my work. I don't want to see you ever again. Bye." Seth's voice was calm as he spoke each word.

"Seth! What hap-" Seth didn't want to talk to the man anymore and hung up on him in mid-sentence. He leaned his head backwards on the couch looking up at the ceiling. The noise of the phone going off was heard again. Seth looked at it and cancelled the call and turned off the phone. He knew he shouldn't since he is on call, but that was the only way for to stop the phone from ringing. Seth sat back up and finished the rest of the beer in the can. His heart was completely broken like it was back in high school. He never wanted to feel that way, but it happened again. He wanted to drown out the pain he was feeling in his heart. He grabbed an unopened can, opened it, and downed half of the can. He wanted to get wasted. That wouldn't solve anything, he knew that, but it would help him get through this night.
