The Pieces, and Their Places

RUDSIS

Treni was careful.

She had to be. Otherwise, Rudsis would grow suspicious of his dreams, would tell Afena about it, and they'd realize that the sash he wore might have something to do about it. They'd get rid of it, and then Treni would not be able to infiltrate his dreams.

To be even more subtle about it, she was careful not to appear in the dreams she caused Rudsis to have. Not directly, at least. She'd make sure she was mentioned, or present in some way, but never starred directly in these dreams.

Unless they took a sensual turn, of course. If they did, she was sure to fulfill Rudsis' fantasies, and pleased herself at the same time.

This time, however, Rudsis seemed inclined towards fixing the world. Emissaries from the city of Scepter had been sent to Rudsis' city, Crown, to pray for his help. There were food shortages, and people were starving to death.
