"That was a spirit, Rudsis," said Afena.
They were still in the barn, because they wouldn't be able to speak privately at the inn. Rudsis' bed friend was surely waiting for him, and if he went into Afena's room, someone might spot them, which would cause trouble with Rudsis' bed girl. There was no need to rush back, so she decided to explain things to him right there and then.
"And before you ask, I'm not sure what a spirit is. It has been debated for many, many, many years, as well as studied. All we know is that after dying, our spirits, or our essences, stay in this world, wandering, until something comes for it to take it somewhere."
Rudsis looked from her, to the spot where the woman had been crying on all fours. "Is she gone?"
"No. It's very likely she's still there crying. There would be no point in making her appear again. Something tells me she'll be crying for the rest of the night."
