Chapter 40: Cassandra

We turned to see what Kyler was seeing. A dozen people raced toward us, their pursuers not far behind. A bolt of lightning flashed from the sky and landed in the middle of the group, sending several people flying. They landed with a loud thud, motionless. An arm dropped at my feet. Humanity was the cruelest species on the planet. We killed for the hell of it. We killed because someone looked at us the wrong way or someone was upset at work or at the park or any number of places. Humanity was filled with greed and a hunger for power. We had no hope other than to keep fighting the good fight.

"Braeden, they need a dome of protection." I pushed through the remaining people.

A dome fell over those who managed to keep running. Then the guys joined me, their hands glowing, ready to test the sharing of elements we had practiced a week earlier.
