Chapter 42 : Worst Timing Ever

Vika's POV

"Oh my god," I whispered after hearing everything Vadon was saying.

My stomach soured. I looked away from the phone. Yeah, like that would let me not hear everything.

"Honey, don't panic. Vadon won't get his way..." my mom said, putting her hands on my shoulders. She had brought Henry here half an hour ago and heard all of the conversation.

"No!" Asher's voice screamed through the phone.

I heard a scuffling sound and then buzz, buzz. The line went dead.

"What just happened?" I jumped up and grabbed the phone. I dialed Asher's number back.

"The number you are trying to reach is no longer in service."

I froze. No, no! I couldn't reach Asher.

‘Please, please let him be okay,’ I pleaded silently with the Moon Goddess.

"Did he lose contact?" my mom asked.

"I… d-don't know…." I gasped. My fingers were numb.

Thump…

The phone hit the carpet.

"The line just…." I trailed off.

I clutched my chest and heaved. I couldn't breathe.
