Chapter 43 : Let Them Go

Vika's POV

I pounced on Shian, pinning her down. She wiggled like a worm.

I snapped my jaws at her, and she stopped.

'That's right, Shian, I've got you now.’

"Hmm… Hmm…" Shian whined. Coppery-smelling blood oozed from her fur.

I snarled and pinned her to the ground, snapping my jaws again. Shian stopped struggling.

"Vika!"

My ears turned back, catching my name. Mom? What was she doing here?

Crunch… Crunch… Crunch… There were a lot of footsteps.

I looked over and saw my mom, Malcolm, and Asher.

My heart soared like a bird as if it could lift me right off the ground. He was okay.

Smash!

Ow! Something hit me from behind. I slid across the clearing.

Like a brick, Devi landed on my back. Her teeth bit my neck, pricking me like a bunch of needles.

I rolled away from her. There was no way she was a match for me now. I twisted, and Devi's hold slipped.
