Asher's POV
My dad smirked. "Well, if you must know the truth, you were going to be my right-hand man, my most powerful son. You were to rule at my side," he said.
"Never!" I snapped.
I glanced at Vika. Her eyes were empty, distant.
Man, I'd give anything to know what she was thinking, what she felt about learning the truth.
"With our combined strength, conquering Lanem would have been easy," he continued like a preacher at a pulpit.
"Is that all you ever cared about, power and conquest?" I asked.
"No, no, dear boy. Okay, for the sake of my son, I'll answer what you wonder." He waggled his finger back and forth. I was not some child he could scold.
At least, he was willing to answer all my questions.
"If your desire is to rule both kingdoms, why haven't you attacked Lanem in a full-scale war?" I pointed out. I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow at him.
Maybe he was just insane… Nothing he said made any sense.
