Chapter 27: His Name is Anubis

The priestesses made some soup with some sort of meat she did not recognize, but it reminded her of chicken soup. They told her the trip with the Oracle is intense, and the soup is designed to help those who undertake the ordeal to recover their strength once again. Cassandra thanked them, and as the time passed, she became more and more aware of her thirst and hunger. Once she had eaten enough to subside her hunger and drank some water, she decided to ask Lakis about his experience.

“Did you speak with the Pythia?” she asked him, gazing at him. They were outside now, seated beneath a tree. The sun felt so good after being in the cold darkness of the cavern.

He shook his head as he swallowed his water and answered, “No, I did not. She would not see me. My soul is tainted.”

“What do you mean by that?” she asked, feeling concerned.
