Chapter 44: Vengeance is Mine

Lakis continued his prayers amidst dozens of lightning strikes which blazed all around him. Amidst the shaking and rumbling of the thunder, he continued to pray, bow, and repeat again and again. He knew she was there, and only hoped she might hear him and pity him.

Meanwhile, Cassandra, so caught in the billowing of the winds, could barely distinguish herself from the storm about her and Set. She looked down, to see the small figure of Lakis borrowing his head into the ground. Despite the many raging storms, she heard his voice calling out to her, asking her pardon.

“He is a fool. Why should you believe him?” hissed Set, striking his staff so that a blazing lightning bolt struck the earth around Lakis. But, he was unmoved. It was a good question though, she thought. Why should she believe him? He thinks he can just say sorry and everything will be okay?
