"When I was told to choose my weapon, I chose combat knives immediately. So I didn't have problem with choosing bow and arrows". Ryder said.
They nodded their heads to his statement, then Everett voiced out,
"Now, each of us has revealed the weapons we chose. I've got one question, which is the best?".
Hugo quickly said, "Sword is the best", Then he glanced at Everett and inquired, "Isn't that right?".
"Yeah, sword is the best. We swordsmen are the best". Everett stated.
Who wouldn't want to defend the weapon they chose? So Evelyn said, "No, I think chain sickles are the best".
"Those weapons that are hard to use?". Everett uttered.
"Well, I've got one thing to say, combat knives are the best". Ryder voiced out, he's also got to defend the weapon he chose.
Vera was the only one that hadn't spoken yet, and she didn't like what they were doing. You know, she's got a certain kind of attitude, so she wasn't feeling what they were doing. So she voiced out,
"You guys should stop that".
The four of them glanced at her, then she uttered once again,
"All of our weapons are good, no need for the argument".
"Yeah, yeah, that's true". Ryder said.
The argument stopped, and they engaged in other activities. They made use of their phones, they played games and all that. Hugo had already become familiar with those games, he was good at playing them now. He had also learned how to operate a phone, apart from games, he had learned other things a phone was used for.
But he did it discreetly, he can't let them know that he was from ancient times and was just learning what a phone was used for and how to use it. So whenever they were operating their phones, he'll just watch them, and he learned bit by bit. Though there were lots of things they couldn't do with their phones due to lack of connection and internet, Hugo learned the little he could learn.
They played games, chatted until it was very late in the night, they had gotten so close to each other. Each of them left for their various beds, and Hugo lay on his bed, it was about time to go to sleep. But he wasn't feeling sleepy though it was late in the night already. And at that moment, different thoughts started trooping into his head.
But the major one was his training with Captain Wayne tomorrow, that one stuck in his head for a long time.
'Would any of my sword attacks touch Captain Wayne tomorrow? I hope it will, that shows that I'm improving, I've trained so hard for it'. Hugo thought to himself.
After some minutes, his head was free of any thoughts. And though he wasn't feeling sleepy at first, after minutes of lying on the bed, his eyes were becoming heavy, and before he knew it...he had dozed off.
*******
The next morning, the same events took place, people waking up from sleep, taking their baths, brushing their teeth. The S class students that were meant to go get foodstuff today left as early as possible. Even when it hadn't gotten to complete dawn yet, they had already woken up, taken their baths, brushed, prepared, and left.
That was under the command of Captain Wayne. His instruction was, 'As early as possible tomorrow morning, you guys should have left to go get more foodstuff'. He didn't say it harshly though, it was a clear command. Hugo had already gotten up from bed, and the thing that kept on lingering in his mind was his training with Captain Wayne today.
He had one aim, for him to hit Captain Wayne, even if just once. If he can't accomplish that, he'll be very disappointed...but he wouldn't lose hope. The rest of other morning events took place, everyone freshened up, brushed their teeth, ate breakfast, and engaged in some other activities in their classes.
And right now, it was time for training...the training was about to resume. Captain Wayne didn't keep Hugo waiting this time, the both of them walked to the compound together. Standing right on that free spot as the both of them were glancing at each other, Captain Wayne inquired of Hugo,
"So, are you prepared?".
"Yeah, very prepared". Hugo retorted.
"So, would any of your sword attacks hit me?".
"Umm...I can't say, but I'll try my best".
"OK then".
With that, Captain Wayne handed to Hugo one of the wooden swords he was holding in his hand. Then he said,
"I'll attack first".
Hugo shivered a little just by hearing that statement, Captain Wayne was gonna attack first, shit! Before, he had always wanted Captain Wayne to attack first 'cause he'll have a better chance of hitting him. He felt, the first person to attack creates more openings, and that's a win for the second person.
That's the type of thinking he had when he started his training, but he's come to realize that it wasn't true. Captain Wayne had straightened that thinking of his numerous times. Whenever Captain Wayne attacks, he comes with so much force, he was really skilled...that's why Hugo was afraid.
But he wouldn't let his fear get the best of him, he was gonna try his f**king best to hit Captain Wayne. He positioned his wooden sword well in his hands, and Captain Wayne positioned his also, then he charged towards, Hugo. He got to where Hugo was standing and swung his sword to hit him in the neck, but Hugo bent as the sword swung past.
Captain Wayne knew that Hugo was gonna dodge it, that's why he swung the sword like that. If that sword happened to hit Hugo in the neck, though it wasn't real sword, he would have felt serious pain. The moment Hugo dodged it, an opening was created, and it was to Hugo's benefit.
Immediately, he forwarded his sword to pierce Captain Wayne's stomach, but Captain Wayne moved his body a little as Hugo's sword missed target. It was a close call though, it almost touched him, if not that he was fast enough, then the story would have been different. Hugo didn't stop there, the moment his sword missed target, he raised it, it's time for slashing.
But this attack of his would fail again, this was something Captain Wayne was used to, this attack had been used continually. The moment Hugo was swinging the sword down to give Captain Wayne a bad slash, Captain Wayne had gotten ready to dodge...it was gonna be an easy dodge.
Before the sword reached where Captain Wayne was, he had already moved aside, and as usual, Hugo missed target once again.
'This is happening again? He keeps dodging my sword attacks. My training yesterday would go to waste, I'm gonna be disappointed'. Hugo thought to himself.
He was afraid that none of his sword attacks would touch Captain Wayne again, the sign was already showing. The moment Hugo's sword missed target, Captain Wayne made use of the opportunity to hit him in the leg. And while Hugo was still feeling the pain, he kicked him in the chest causing him to fly off.
Hugo landed on the ground, like damn! that kick was hard, does Captain Wayne plan on breaking his bone? After lying on the ground for close to a minute, he stood up. The possibility of one of his sword attacks hitting Captain Wayne was very low...seems like he's gonna be disappointed.
He glanced directly into Captain Wayne's eyes and said, "I'm gonna be the one to attack first this time".
He doesn't want to say much, after that statement, he began running towards Captain Wayne. And while running towards him, he noticed something. Captain Wayne was standing like nothing was happening, like Hugo wasn't running towards him. He wasn't even holding his wooden sword well, he was just relaxed.
Seems like he'd calculated how he'll dodge Hugo's attack. His thinking was that Hugo would most likely come with the swing and slash attack, and his thinking was true. That's exactly the kind of attacks Hugo planned on throwing at him, but not anymore, he's changed his mind.
He had discerned that Captain Wayne was waiting for him to throw those attacks, and he knew he could dodge them easily, that's why he was relaxed. But Hugo was gonna give him a surprise attack, something he had never used before, something he had never tried before.
Captain Wayne was the one that informed him about the attack when he was teaching him the basic principles of sword fighting, and it was like he kept it in his knowledge store. Now, he was about to use the attack on, Captain Wayne.
