Chapter 17

I return to my phone to finish reading the email sent to me by my professor, and I sighed heavily when I did. This. Can’t. Be.

I even read the email three times to make sure I was reading it correctly. I know the world is harsh to me, but it can't be this harsh, can it?

When I heard Bella's scream, I was amid my disappointment. I turned around and saw her outside her room, holding her phone and screaming as if she had won the lottery.

"Would you please calm down?" I said harshly to her, and she walked towards me.

"I just can't help myself," she exclaimed, delighted. "I have some exciting news!”

"What exactly is it?" I inquired, uninterested. It was good news for her. So, what about me? If she's got good news, I've got bad news.

God! Please help me!

"Look, I'm going to be assigned to a five-star hotel!" My best friend was ecstatic about this task, while I was feeling the polar opposite of what she was.

"So, what's the big deal?" Is that the good news you're referring to? "Of course, we knew she'd be assigned to the hotel in the first place, duh?"

"Let me finish," she glared at me, and I simply shut my mouth. "I'll be collaborating with Jake!" She was ecstatic about it, she exclaimed. I'm sure she won't be able to sleep starting tonight as a result of it. Tss.

"Congratulations then," I said, turning to face her disappointment.

Maybe she noticed my reaction, and that's why her bright smile faded.

"What's the matter?" she inquired, concerned.

Can I just beg my professor to let me take the exam instead of doing this? Unlike me, my best friend was enthusiastic about the task. I sighed deeply and turned to face her, my phone in hand, to read the email from my professor.

"Are you going to do this task?” I nodded, understanding what she meant. "You're going to be a secretary?" Bella looked at me with surprise.

She even blinked three times and snatched my phone from my grasp to read it again.

"Are you sure this isn't a dream?" she inquired.

"I hope it was just a dream," I sighed.

"Hmm... Too bad it wasn't a dream," she paused, shaking her head slowly. "I assumed you'd be assigned as a freelance architect, but you've turned out to be a secretary?" She exclaimed incredulously. "Are you kidding me?"

"Can today get any worse?" What is the connection between being an archi student and being a secretary?

Oh, no! I despise doing a lot of paperwork!

"Relax, best friend. I believe it is preferable to review his subject, right? I'm sure you're aware of how difficult that subject taught by our same professor is."

"I'll talk to him if he can change his mind," I sighed. “What is the connection between being a secretary and my course? I'm a future architect, and all I'll be doing is working as a secretary?!”

I should at least try to talk to our professor about this assignment. I can even picture myself working as a secretary and being chastised by my boss until I give up. But, hey! It should only take a month, so maybe I can do it? I'll only complete this task as my final exam, and I'll leave that company as soon as I finish it.

"I hope you have all received and read the details that I sent to you via email earlier. The position and location to which you will be assigned were already indicated in the email," our prof explained, and I mentally rolled my eyes at him as my classmates' excitement was palpable. So, is this it? Was I the only one who didn't like the position that had been assigned to me?

I still didn't know where I was going to work. I only read about the position I will hold in that company or wherever it is.

The next subject arrived, but it was empty because our teacher for that subject had already given us our output-based for the final exam. I'm glad I won't be rushing through that output now that I've already submitted it. Despite this, I was the first to pass the plate. When the teacher announced our output-based exam, as soon as I arrived at my best friend's condo, I spent almost all of my time doing that plate. My only respite at the time was taking a bath, eating, and sleeping. So, yeah, this hour was a free one for me, which is great because I'll be able to talk to that prof about my situation.

There's no harm in giving it a shot.

As soon as I stepped into the office of the person I wanted to speak with, I summoned all of my courage.

"Are you sure, ms. Virgel?"

"Good morning, sir," I said as I greeted him.

"Could you please take a seat?"

I took my seat and sighed heavily to summon the courage to request a change in the position that had been assigned to me.

"Are you sure, sir? Why have I been designated as a secretary? ”

I was dissatisfied with my position, but my professor in front of me appears to be content. If he's pleased with the position he's given me, I'm not.

"I'm sorry, ms. Virgel, if that's the position I assigned to you," my professor apologized. Of course, you should apologize. Tss.

"I know it's not related to your course, but when I spoke with the company, they said they only have one slot left for a freelance architect," my professor added, and I almost raised an eyebrow at him. It's a good thing I have the desire to stop myself.

I was just getting my hopes up when my professor said the next words that ruined everything.

"However, they also stated that even if it's just for freelance, they must first hire you as a secretary. According to what they told me, they also require one because their boss' secretary has retired.”

Please, just kill me!

After hearing those words from my professor, I've already lost all hope.

"Sir..." I look sadly at my prof, and I know from the way he looked at me that he, too, couldn't do anything.

"Sir, are you still looking for another company?"

"I'm sorry, ms. Virgel," my professor said slowly. I tried to find some job openings, but they were all taken. This was the best I could do for you."

I sighed heavily, realizing that I had no choice but to accept the role that had been assigned to me in this task.

"But don't worry," my professor said. "The company told me that after you graduated, they will immediately give you the one slot left that was related to your course, so you won't have to look for another job. Just do your best in this task," my professor explained with a smile.

At least, that's the good news, isn't it? If I accept this position in this task, I won't have to work as hard to find a job after I graduate.

I smiled broadly at my professor before standing up and bowing slightly to him.

"I sincerely thank you, sir! I will give it my all! " I said, and my professor simply smiled and wished me luck.

When I walked out of my professor's office, I sighed and smiled broadly. Whatever happens, fight on, future architect!
