Chapter 17: Divide and Conquer

The archer looked to the side, addressing someone he had yet to see. “Take a rest, dear! We’ll take care of the rest!”

Alexander tried to get a look at who was talking to, glimpsing only a dirty shoe before it was covered by green brush. The said foliage appeared from the corners of his eyes, the shades of green and lime moving across the edges of his vision like an unfocused kaleidoscope.

He didn’t have to investigate though, as his eyes snapped back to attention when he heard the distinct sound of a bow releasing an arrow. Dodging to the side, he felt the projectile whoosh right by him, not even grazing him as it missed its mark by a hair’s breadth.

Notching another arrow immediately, another arrow was sent his way before he could regain his bearings. With blood rushing to Alexander’s ears, he shifted his weight yet again so he could avoid it. He felt a stinging sensation as the edge met his cheek, a clear indication that he was aiming to main and kill.
