Chapter 16: Vulnerability

The steps leading up to the top floor of Adora’s house mildly creaked as Damon made his way to the landing. Much like the back half of the home, the upstairs was more alive than the entry and living spaces. The runner that helped conceal Damon’s footsteps donned and intricate red and blue design, which somehow seemed to match the bold violet colour painted on the walls.

Sweat began to build on his forehead as he moved down the hall towards the guest room that Adelaide currently occupied. His fingers were tight around the dagger’s hilt, and as he continued forward, he consistently flexed his hand to regrip his weapon due to accruing clamminess. He stopped in front of Adelaide’s door and stared at the frame. This was it.
